Listen, Yisroel! You are today crossing the Yardein to come inherit nations greater and more powerful than you; cities great and fortified to the sky.
Hear, O Yisra᾽el: Thou art to pass over the Yarden this day, to go in to possess nations greater and mightier than thyself, cities great and fortified up to heaven,
Hear, O Israel, you are crossing over the Jordan today to come to inherit nations who are greater and mightier than you [(You are mighty, but they are mightier than you)], great cities, and fortified in the heavens.
A great and powerful people, descendants of the Anokim, about whom you know and heard, ‘‘who can stand up to the descendants of Anok?’’
a people great and tall, the children of the ῾Anaqim, whom thou knowst, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the children of ῾Anaq!
A people great and lofty, the sons of Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you have heard (saying): Who can stand up against the sons of Anak!
You know today that Adonoy, your God, is the One crossing before you, a consuming fire, He will destroy them and He will subdue them before you; you will expel them and destroy them quickly, as Adonoy promised for you.
Understand therefore this day, that the Lord thy God is he who goes over before thee; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the Lord has said to thee.
And you shall know this day that the L-rd your G-d — He crosses over before you, a consuming fire. He shall destroy them and He shall humble them before you. And you shall drive them out, and you shall cause them to go lost quickly, as the L-rd has spoken to you.
Do not think, when Adonoy, your God, smashes them before you, saying: ‘‘Because of my righteousness has Adonoy brought me to inherit this land,’’ and because of the wickedness of these nations is Adonoy expelling them before you.
Speak not thou in thy heart, after the Lord thy God has cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the Lord has brought me in to possess this land: and for the wickedness of these nations the Lord does drive them out from before thee.
Do not say in your heart, when the L-rd your G-d thrusts them from before you: In my righteousness did the L-rd bring me to inherit this land, and that because of the wickedness of these nations [together with your righteousness] the L-rd drives them out before you.
Not because of your righteousness and the uprightness of your heart are you coming to inherit their land. Rather, because of the wickedness of these nations is Adonoy, your God, expelling them before you, and in order to fulfill the matter that Adonoy swore to your forefathers—to Avrohom, to Yitzchok, and to Yaakov.
Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but on account of the wickedness of these nations the Lord thy God does drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the Lord swore to thy fathers, Avraham, Yiżĥaq, and Ya῾aqov.
Not in your righteousness and in the uprightness of your heart do you come to inherit their land, but in the wickedness of these nations does the L-rd your G-d drive them out before you, and to establish the thing that the L-rd swore to your fathers: to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
Know that not because of your righteousness is Adonoy, your God, giving you this good land to inherit, for you are a stubborn people.
Understand therefore, that the Lord thy God gives thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people.
And you shall know that it is not in your righteousness that the L-rd your G-d gives you this good land to inherit it, for you are a stiff-necked people.
Recall, do not forget, how you angered Adonoy, your God, in the wilderness; from the day you left the land of Egypt until you arrived at this place you have been defiers with Adonoy.
Remember, and forget not, how thou didst provoke the Lord thy God to anger in the wilderness: from the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Miżrayim, until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the Lord.
Remember, do not forget, your having angered the L-rd your G-d in the desert. From the day you left the land of Egypt until your coming to this place, you have been rebellious against the L-rd.
And in Choreiv you angered Adonoy, and Adonoy was infuriated with you to destroy you.
Also in Ḥorev you provoked the Lord to anger, so that the Lord was angry with you to have destroyed you.
And in Chorev you angered the L-rd, and the L-rd was wroth with you to destroy you.

When I went up the mountain to take the stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant that Adonoy made with you, I remained on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I ate no bread and drank no water.
When I was gone up into the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the Lord made with you, then I abode in the mountain forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water:
When I went up to the mountain to take the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant that the L-rd made with you. And I was kept in the mountain forty days and forty nights. Bread I did not eat, and water I did not drink.
Adonoy gave me the two stone tablets written with God’s finger and upon them all the statements that Adonoy addressed to you on the mountain from within the fire, on the day of assembly.
and the Lord delivered to me two tablets of stone written with the finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words which the Lord spoke with you in the mountain out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly.
And the L-rd gave me the two tablets of stone, [(both were alike)], written with the finger of G-d; and on them as all the things that the L-rd spoke with you in the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly.
When, at the end of forty days and forty nights, Adonoy gave me the two stone tablets, the covenant tablets,
And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the Lord gave me the two tablets of stone, the tables of the covenant.
And it was at the end of forty days and forty nights that the L-rd gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant.
Adonoy said to me, ‘‘Get ready! Go down quickly from here, because your people has corrupted—whom you took out of Egypt; they have veered swiftly from the way that I commanded them; they made them a molten image.
And the Lord said to me, Arise, get thee down quickly from here; for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Miżrayim have become corrupt; they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a molten image.
And the L-rd said to me: Arise, descend quickly hence. For the people that you took out of Egypt have corrupted themselves. They have turned quickly from the way that I commanded them; they have made a molten image.
Adonoy said to me, to say, ‘‘I have seen this people, and look, it is a stubborn people!
And the Lord spoke to me saying, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:
And the L-rd said to me: I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiff-necked people.
Leave Me alone and let Me destroy them and eliminate their name from beneath the sky, and let Me make you into a nation more powerful and numerous than they.’’
let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they.
Quit Me and I shall destroy them, and I shall erase their name from beneath the heavens, and I shall make you a nation mightier and more numerous than they.

I turned and descended the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire; and the two covenant tablets were on my two hands.
So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire: and the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.
And I turned, and I went down from the mountain. And the mountain burned in fire, and the two tablets of stone on my two hands.
I beheld that you had just sinned to Adonoy, your God, you had made yourselves a molten calf; you had veered swiftly from the way that Adonoy had commanded you.
And I looked, and, behold, you had sinned against the Lord your God, and had made a molten calf: you had turned aside quickly out of the way which the Lord had commanded you.
And I saw, and, behold, you had sinned against the L-rd your G-d; you had made for yourselves a molten calf. You had turned quickly from the way that the L-rd had commanded you.
I grasped the two tablets and threw them from (upon) my two hands, and smashed them before your eyes.
And I took the two tablets, and cast them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.
And I took hold of the two tablets and I cast them from my two hands, and I broke them before your eyes.
I prostrated myself before Adonoy as before, forty days and forty nights, bread I did not eat nor water did I drink; for all of your sin that you sinned by doing what is evil in Adonoy’s eyes to anger Him.
And I fell down before the Lord, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which you sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.
And I prostrated myself before the L-rd as at first (see Exodus 33:30), forty days and forty nights. Bread I did not eat, and water I did not drink, because of all your sins wherein you had sinned, to do the evil in the eyes of the L-rd to anger Him.
Because I was afraid of the anger and the fury that Adonoy raged at you to destroy you; and Adonoy accepted my prayer that time as well.
For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, with which the Lord was angry against you to destroy you. But the Lord hearkened to me at that time also.
For I was affrighted before the anger and the wrath wherein the L-rd was wroth against you to destroy you. And the L-rd hearkened to me at that time too.
And at Aharon Adonoy grew very angry to destroy him; I prayed for Aharon, too, at that time.
And the Lord was very angry with Aharon to have destroyed him: and I prayed for Aharon also at the same time.
And against Aaron was the L-rd extremely wroth, [(for having heeded them)], to destroy him [(This connotes the killing of his children)], and I prayed also on Aaron's behalf at that time [(and my prayer availed to atone for half, two of his sons remaining alive)].
And the sin[-object] that you made, the calf, I took and burned it in fire. I crushed it—thoroughly grinding it—until it was fine—to dust; and I threw its dust into the stream that was flowing down from the mountain.
And I took your sin, the calf which you had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, and ground it very small, until it was as fine as dust: and I cast the dust of it into the stream that descended out of the mountain.
And your sin that you wrought — the calf — I took it and I burnt it in fire, and I crushed it, grinding it down, until it was thin as dust. And I cast its dust into the stream that ran down from the mountain.
And in Tav’eiroh and in Massoh and in Kivros Hata’voh you were angerers of Adonoy.
And at Tav῾era, and at Massa, and at Qivrot-hatta᾽ava, you provoked the Lord to anger.
And in Taveirah and in Massah and in Kivroth Hata'avah you roused the ire of the L-rd.
And when Adonoy sent you from Kodeish Barnei’a, saying, ‘‘Go up and inherit the land that I have given you.’’ But you defied Adonoy, your God, and did not trust Him, and did not heed Him.
Likewise when the Lord sent you from Qadesh-barne῾a, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then you rebelled against the commandment of the Lord your God, and you believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice.
And when the L-rd sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying: Go up and possess the land that I have given you, you rebelled against the word of the L-rd your G-d, and you did not believe Him, and you did not hearken to His voice.
Defiers have you been with Adonoy, from the day I know you.
You have been rebellious against the Lord from the day that I knew you.
You were rebellious against the L-rd from the day I knew you!
I prostrated myself before Adonoy the forty days and the forty nights that I prostrated myself, because Adonoy intended to destroy you.
Thus I fell down before the Lord forty days and forty nights, as I fell down at the first; because the Lord had said he would destroy you.
And I prostrated myself before the L-rd the forty days and the forty nights that I did, for the L-rd had spoken to destroy you.
I prayed to Adonoy and said, ‘‘Adonoy, God, do not harm Your people and Your territory that You redeemed with Your power, whom You took out of Egypt with a powerful hand.
I prayed therefore to the Lord, and said, O Lord God, destroy not thy people and thy inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, which thou hast brought out of Miżrayim with a mighty hand.
And I prayed to the L-rd and I said: O L-rd G-d, do not destroy Your people and Your inheritance that You redeemed in Your greatness, that You took out of Egypt with a strong hand.

Recall Your servants—Avrohom, Yitzchok, and Yaakov; do not pay attention to the stubborness of this people, to its wickedness, and to its sin.
Remember thy servants, Avraham, Yiżĥaq, and Ya῾aqov; look not to the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin:
Remember Your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Do not turn to the hardness of this people, and to its wickedness, and to its sin.

lest the land from which thou didst bring us out say, Because the Lord was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.
Lest they [the people of] the land whence you brought us forth say: Because the L-rd was not able to bring them to the land whereof He spoke to them, and in His hatred of them, He took them out to put them to death in the desert —

Yet they are thy people and thy inheritance, which thou didst bring out by thy mighty power and by thy stretched-out arm.
And they are Your people and Your inheritance, whom You took out in Your great strength and with Your outstretched arm.
