Adonoy spoke to Moshe, saying,

And the Lord spoke to Moshe, saying,

And the L-rd said to Moses, saying:

“Sanctify to Me all the first-born, that [is the first to] open the womb among the B’nei Yisrael, both of man and beast, it is Mine.”

Sanctify to me all the firstborn, whatever opens the womb among the children of Yisra᾽el, both of man and of beast: it is mine.

Sanctify unto Me every first-born, the [first] opener of each womb among the children of Israel in man and beast; he is Mine, [acquired by Me when I smote the first-born of Egypt].

Moshe said to the people, “Remember this day [as the day] on which you came out of Egypt, from the house of slavery, for with a strong hand Adonoy brought you out from this. You must not eat chametz.

And Moshe said to the people, Remember this day, in which you came out from Miżrayim, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the Lord brought you out from this place: no leavened bread shall be eaten.

And Moses said to the people: Remember this day when you went out of Egypt from the house of bondage [(We are hereby taught to make mention of the exodus every day)]. For with might of hand did the L-rd take you hence, and chametz shall not be eaten.

On this day you went out, in the month of Aviv [Nissan].

This day you came out, in the month Aviv.

This day you go out, in the month of spring [an equable month: neither hot, nor cold, nor rainy.]

When Adonoy brings you to the land of the Canaanite, the Chittites, the Emorites, the Chivites and the Yevusites, which He swore to your fathers [that He would] give to you—a land flowing with milk and honey—you must conduct this service in this month.

And it shall be when the Lord shall bring thee into the land of the Kena῾ani, and the Ḥitti, and the Emori, and the Ḥivvi, and the Yevusi, which he swore to thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou shalt keep this service in this month.

And it shall be, when the L-rd brings you to the land of Canaan [(a particular nation of the seven nations generically called "Canaanites")], the Chitti, the Emori, the Chivi, and the Yevussi, which He swore to your forefathers to give to you [(Abraham — Genesis 15:18; Isaac — 26:3; Jacob — 28:13)], a land flowing with milk [from goats] and honey [from dates and figs], then you shall perform this service [of Pesach] on this month.

For seven days you must eat matzos, and the seventh day is a festival to Adonoy.

Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the Lord.

Seven days shall you eat matzoth, and on the seventh day, a festival to the L-rd.

Matzos must be eaten these seven days. No chametz may be seen in your possession, and no leaven may be seen in all your boundaries.

Unleavened bread shall be eaten for seven days; and there shall no leavened bread be seen with thee, neither shall leaven be seen with thee in all thy borders.

Matzoth shall be eaten the seven days; and chametz (leaven) shall not be seen unto you, and se'or (leavening) shall not be seen unto you in all of your boundaries.

You must tell your son [child] on that day saying, ‘Because of this, Adonoy did [this] for me when I came out of Egypt.’

And thou shalt relate to thy son on that day, saying, This is done because of that which the Lord did to me when I came out of Miżrayim.

And you shall tell [vehigadeta] your son [(an allusion to "the son who does not know how to ask." "Open for him" with words of aggadah (narration), which stimulate questioning)] on that day, saying: Because of this [i.e., so that I fulfill His mitzvoth, e.g., pesach, matzoth, and maror] the L-rd wrought for me when I went out of Egypt [(an allusion to the answer to "the wicked son," (see 12:26), viz.: "The L-rd wrought for me and not for you. Had you been there, you would not have merited redemption.")]

It shall be to you as a sign on your hand, and for a reminder between your eyes, so that Adonoy’s teachings will be in your mouth, for with a strong hand Adonoy brought you out of Egypt.

And it shall be for a sign to thee upon thy hand, and for a memorial between thy eyes, that the Lord’s Tora may be in thy mouth: for with a strong hand did the Lord bring thee out of Miżrayim.

And it [the account of the exodus from Egypt] shall be to you as a sign upon your [left] hand [in the hand phylactery] and as a memorial between your eyes [in the head phylactery], so that the Torah of the L-rd be in your mouth; for with a mighty hand did the L-rd take you out of Egypt.

You must preserve this statute in its appointed time, from year to year.

Thou shalt therefore keep this ordinance in its season from year to year.

And you shall keep this statute in its time, from year to year.

When Adonoy brings you to the land of the Canaanites as He swore to you and to your fathers; and He will have given it to you.

And it shall be when the Lord shall bring thee into the land of the Kena῾ani, as he swore to thee and to thy fathers, and shall give it thee,

And it shall be, when the L-rd brings you to the land of the Canaanite as He swore to you [6:8] and to your forefathers and gives it to you [(Let it be in your eyes as if it is given to you on that day and not as an inheritance from your fathers)],

[At that time] you must pass on, [set aside] every one that [is first to] open the womb, to Adonoy. Every firstling that is dropped [born] by animals that belong to you, the males shall belong to Adonoy.

that thou shalt set apart to the Lord all that opens the womb, and every firstling that comes of a beast which thou hast; the males shall be the Lord’s.

then you shall set apart every firstling of the womb for the L-rd. And every firstling of the cast-off [i.e., the premature birth] of a beast that shall be to you, the males are the L-rd's.

Redeem each firstling donkey with a sheep. If it is not redeemed, you must break its neck. Redeem every first-born male among your sons.

And every firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb; and if thou wilt not redeem it, then thou shalt break its neck: and all the firstborn of man among thy children shalt thou redeem.

And every firstling of an ass [and not of any other unclean beast, the first-born of the Egyptians being compared to asses, and, also, because the asses "assisted" Israel in taking out the spoils of Egypt)] shall you redeem with a lamb. [The lamb is given to the Cohein, benefit may then be derived from the firstling, and the lamb is chullin (non-sacred) for the Cohein.] And if you do not redeem it, then you shall break its neck [with a hatchet from behind (He caused the Cohein a loss; therefore, he suffers a loss)], and every human first-born among your sons shall you redeem [by giving five selaim to the Cohein].

When your son asks you at a later time saying ‘What is this?’ You should say to him, “With a strong hand Adonoy brought us out of Egypt from the house of slavery.

And it shall be when thy son asks thee in time to come, saying, What is this? that thou shalt say to him, By strength of hand the Lord brought us out of Miżrayim, from the house of bondage:

And it shall be, if your son asks you in after time, saying "What is this?" [(an allusion to the question of "the simple son")], then you shall say to him: With might of hand did the L-rd take us out of Egypt from the house of bondage.

When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to send us out, Adonoy killed every first-born in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of man to the first-born of beast. I am therefore sacrificing to Adonoy all that [is first to] open the womb which are male, and the first-born of my sons I redeem.’

and it came to pass, when Par῾o would hardly let us go, that the Lord slew all the firstborn in the land of Miżrayim, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the Lord all that opens the womb, being males; but all the firstborn of my children I redeem.

And it was, when Pharaoh resisted sending us out, that the L-rd killed every first-born in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of man until the first-born of beast. Therefore, I sacrifice to the L-rd every male firstling of the womb, and every firstling of my sons, I redeem.

[These words] shall be a sign on your hand and for totafos between your eyes, for with a strong hand Adonoy brought us out of Egypt.”

And it shall be for a token upon thy hand, and for frontlets between thy eyes: for by strength of hand the Lord brought us forth out of Miżrayim.

And it shall be as a sign upon your hand and as a frontlet [totafoth (signifying "four" — the four compartments of the head phylactery)] between your eyes; for with might of hand did the L-rd take us out of Egypt.

When Pharaoh sent away the people Elohim did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines because it was the shortest route; for Elohim said, “The people might change their minds should they encounter war, and return to Egypt.

And it came to pass, when Par῾o had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Pelishtim, although that was near; for God said, Lest the people repent when they see war, and they return to Miżrayim:

And it was, when Pharaoh sent out the people, that G-d did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, for it was near [and afforded "easy return" to Egypt]. For G-d said: Lest the people bethink themselves [about having left Egypt] when they see war [e.g., Numbers 14:45] and they return to Egypt.

And so Elohim led the people round-about by way of the Reed Sea Desert, and the B’nei Yisrael went up armed from the land of Egypt.

but God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Sea of Suf: and the children of Yisra᾽el went up armed out of the land of Miżrayim.

And G-d led the people circuitously by way of the desert to the Red Sea. And the children of Israel went up armed from the land of Egypt.

Moshe took the bones of Yoseif with him, for [Yoseif] had bound the B’nei Yisrael by oath saying, “Elohim will surely remember you, and [then] you must carry up my bones out of here with you.

And Moshe took the bones of Yosef with him: for he had laid an oath on the children of Yisra᾽el, saying, God will surely visit you; and you shall carry up my bones away from here with you.

And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him. For he had made the children of Israel swear, saying: G-d will surely remember you, and you shall bring up my bones from here with you, [the tribes, (the bones of all the tribes also being brought up with them)].

They journeyed from Sukkos and camped at Eisom at the edge of the desert.

And they took their journey from Sukkot, and encamped in Etam, at the edge of the wilderness.

And they journeyed from Succoth [on the second day] and they encamped in Etham at the edge of the desert.

Adonoy went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them on the way, and at night in a pillar of fire to provide them with light, so that they could travel by day and by night.

And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; that they might go by day and night:

And the L-rd went before them by day with [i.e., leading] a pillar of cloud to guide them on the way, and at night, with a pillar of fire to light them, to go by day and by night.

He did not remove the pillar of cloud by day, or the pillar of fire at night, from before the people.

he took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.

He did not dispel the pillar of cloud in the day and the pillar of light at night before the people. [Before the one "set," the other rose.]
