He [God] had said to Moshe, ‘Go up to [the Presence of] Adonoy, you, Aharon, Nadav, Avihu, and seventy of the elders of [the B’nei] Yisrael, and prostrate yourselves at a distance.

And he said to Moshe, Come up to the Lord, thou, and Aharon, Nadav, and Avihu, and seventy of the elders of Yisra᾽el; and bow down afar off.

And to Moses He said [(before the Ten Commandments) on the fourth of Sivan]: Go up to the L-rd, you and Aaron, Nadav and Avihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and bow down from afar.

Moshe alone shall approach [the Presence of] Adonoy, but they must not approach, and the people must not go up with him.”

And Moshe alone shall come near the Lord: but they shall not come near; nor shall the people go up with him.

And Moses alone shall draw near [to the mist] to the L-rd, but they shall not draw near, and the people shall not go up with him.

Moshe came and told the people all the words of Adonoy, and all the laws. The people responded with one voice and said, “All the words that Adonoy has spoken, we will do.”

And Moshe came and told the people all the words of the Lord, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the Lord has said will we do.

And Moses came and he told the people [on that day] all the words of the L-rd [the commandment of separation (from conjugal relations) and the keeping of bounds (from Mount Sinai)] and all of the judgments [the seven Noachide laws, Sabbath, honoring of father and mother, and the administration of justice, which had been related to them at Marah]. And the people answered with one voice and said: All of the things which the L-rd has spoken we shall do.

Moshe wrote down all the words of Adonoy. He arose early in the morning, and built an altar beneath the mountain, and [also] twelve monuments [pillars] for the twelve tribes of [the B’nei] Yisrael.

And Moshe wrote all the words of the Lord, and rose up early in the morning, and built an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Yisra᾽el.

And Moses wrote all the words of the L-rd [from the creation until the giving of the Torah, and he wrote down the mitzvoth given at Marah] and he arose early in the morning [on the fifth of Sivan] and he built an altar at the foot of the mountain and twelve monuments for the twelve tribes of Israel.

He sent the youths [first-born] of B’nei Yisrael and they offered burnt-offerings, and sacrificed oxen as peace-offerings to Adonoy.

And he sent the young men of the children of Yisra᾽el, who offered burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the Lord.

And he sent the youths [i.e., the first-born] of the children of Israel, and they offered up burnt-offerings and slaughtered sacrifices, peace-offerings to the L-rd, bullocks.

Moshe took half the blood and put it in the basins, and [the other] half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.

And Moshe took half of the blood, and put it in basins; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.

And Moses took half of the blood [(an angel coming and halving it)] and he placed it in basins [(two basins: one for half the blood of the burnt-offering; the other, for half the blood of the peace-offering to sprinkle upon the people (whence our sages infer that our ancestors entered the covenant through circumcision, immersion, and the sprinkling of blood, there being no sprinkling without immersion)], and half the blood he sprinkled upon the altar.

He then took the Book of the Covenant, and read it in the ears of the people. They said, “All that Adonoy has spoken, we will do and we will listen.”

And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the hearing of the people: and they said, All that the Lord has said will we do, and obey.

And he took the book of the covenant [(from the creation until the giving of the Torah and the mitzvoth given at Marah)], and he read (it) in the ears of the people, and they said: All that the L-rd has spoken we shall do and we shall hear.

Moshe then took the blood and cast it on the people, and he said, “Behold, this is the blood of the covenant which Adonoy has made with you regarding all these words.”

And Moshe took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord has made with you concerning all these words.

And Moses took the blood and sprinkled it upon the people, and he said: Behold, the blood of the covenant, which the L-rd has made with you over all these words.

Moshe and Aharon then went up along with Nadav and Avihu, and seventy of the elders of [the B’nei] Yisrael.

Then Moshe went up, and Aharon, Nadav and Avihu, and seventy of the elders of Yisra᾽el:

And there went up Moses and Aaron, Nadav and Avihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel.

They saw [a vision of] the God of Yisrael, and under His feet [there was something] like a brickwork of sapphire, and it was like the essence of heaven in purity.

and they saw the God of Yisra᾽el: and there was under his feet a kind of paved work of sapphire stone, and as it were the very heaven for clearness.

And they saw the G-d of Israel [They "peeked" and were liable to death, but the Holy One Blessed be He, desiring not to dampen the joy of (receiving the) Torah "waited" for Nadav and Avihu until the consecration of the tabernacle, and for the elders until the episode of the complainers (Numbers 11:16)], and under His feet, as the work of a sapphire brick [This was before Him at the time of the (Egyptian) bondage to "keep Him in mind" of the brick-toil of the Jews] and as the appearance of the heavens in brightness. [When they were redeemed, there was light and rejoicing before Him.]

But against the nobility of the B’nei Yisrael, He [God] did not send His hand. They envisioned God, and they ate and drank.

And upon the nobles of the children of Yisra᾽el he laid not his hand: and they beheld God, and did eat and drink.

And against the nobles of the children of Israel [Nadav, Avihu, and the elders], He did not send forth His hand [(whence it is to be derived that it would have been warranted)], and they gazed upon G-d [grossly] while eating and drinking.

Adonoy then said to Moshe, “Come up to Me to the mountain and remain there. I will give you the tablets of stone, the Torah and the commandment, which I have written [in order] to teach them.”

And the Lord said to Moshe, Come up to me to the mountain, and be there: and I will give thee the tablets of stone, and the Tora, and the commandments which I have written; that thou mayst teach them.

And the L-rd said to Moses [after the giving of the Torah]: Go up to Me to the mountain and be there [forty days], and I shall give you the tablets of stone and the Torah and the mitzvah which I have written to teach them. [All the six hundred and thirteen mitzvoth are contained in the Ten Commandments.]

Moshe and Yehoshua, his attendant, set out, but [only] Moshe went up to the mountain of God.

And Moshe rose up, and his minister Yehoshua: and Moshe went up into the mount of God.

And Moses arose and Joshua his attendant, and Moses went up to the mountain of G-d, [Joshua accompanying him as far as he was permitted to go, pitching his tent there and awaiting Moses' return].

He [Moshe] said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we return to you, and Aharon and Chur will be with you. Whoever has a claim can approach them.”

And he said to the elders, Wait here for us, until we come back to you: and, behold, Aharon and Ḥur are with you: if any man have any matters, let him come to them.

And to the elders he said [upon leaving the encampment]: Abide for us here [with the rest of the people to be "on call" for judging their disputes] until we return to you, and, behold, Aaron and Chur [(the son of Miriam and Calev ben Yefuneh)] are with you. Whoever has a claim (against his fellow) shall draw near to them.

Moshe went up to the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.

And Moshe went up into the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.

And Moses went up to the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.

The glory of Adonoy rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days. On the seventh day, He called to Moshe from the midst of the cloud.

And the glory of the Lord rested upon mount Sinay, and the cloud covered it for six days: on the seventh day he called to Moshe out of the midst of the cloud.

And the glory of the L-rd reposed upon Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days and He called to Moses on the seventh day from the midst of the cloud. [Or, according to another view, him. ("it"): "And the glory of the L-rd reposed upon Mount Sinai and the cloud covered it for six days [from Rosh Chodesh Sivan], and He called to Moses [(all of Israel standing there, but Moses being singled out for special honor)] on the seventh day [to declare the Ten Commandments] from the midst of the cloud." ("him"): "And the glory of the L-rd reposed upon Mount Sinai and the cloud covered him for six days [after the Ten Commandments, the beginning of the forty days of Moses' going up to receive the tablets (Scripture teaching that entrance into the "Divine Encampment" (later, the Holy of Holies) requires a six-day separation period)], and He called to Moses on the seventh day from the midst of the cloud."]

The appearance of Adonoy’s glory was like a consuming flame at the top of the mountain; before the eyes of the B’nei Yisrael.

And the sight of the glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Yisra᾽el.

And the sight of the glory of the L-rd was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel.

And Moshe came into the midst of the cloud. and went up into the mountain. Moshe remained on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.

And Moshe went into the midst of the cloud, and went up into the mountain: and Moshe was in the mountain forty days and forty nights.

And Moses came in the midst of the cloud, [G d making a kind of path for him in its midst], and he went up to the mountain. And Moses was in the mountain forty days and forty nights.
