Adonoy said to Moshe, “See, I have made you a god to Pharaoh, and Aharon, your brother will be your spokesman.
And the Lord said to Moshe, See, I have made thee a god to Par῾o: and Aharon thy brother shall be thy prophet.
And the L-rd said to Moses: See, I have made you an overlord to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be your spokesman.
You will speak all that I command you and Aharon, your brother, will speak to Pharaoh, that he send the B’nei Yisrael out of his land.
Thou shall speak all that I command thee: and Aharon thy brother shall speak to Par῾o, that he send the children of Yisra᾽el out of his land.
You speak [(once, for each embassy)] all that I shall command you, and Aaron your brother shall speak to Pharaoh, [elaborating on what you have said], that he send the children of Israel from his land.
I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, [in order to] increase My signs and wonders in the land of Egypt.
And I will harden Par῾o’s heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Miżrayim.
And I shall harden the heart of Pharaoh [since he has inveighed against Me and since I know that he is not inclined to repent wholeheartedly], and I shall [in consequence] increase My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt [for the "edification" of Israel].
[Thus] Pharaoh will not listen to you. But then I will display My hand against Egypt, and I will bring My multitude, My people, the B’nei Yisrael out of the land of Egypt with great acts of judgment.
But Par῾o shall not hearken to you, that I may lay my hand upon Miżrayim, and bring out my armies, my people the children of Yisra᾽el, out of the land of Miżrayim by great judgments.
And Pharaoh will not pay heed to you and I shall place My hand against Egypt [to smite them], and I shall bring forth My hosts, My people, the children of Israel, from the land of Egypt with great judgments.
Egypt will then know that I am Adonoy when I send forth My hand over Egypt and bring out the B’nei Yisrael from among them.”
And Miżrayim shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch out my hand upon Miżrayim, and bring out the children of Yisra᾽el from among them.
And Egypt will know that I am the L-rd when I stretch forth My hand against Egypt; and I shall take out the children of Israel from their midst.
Moshe and Aharon did so. They did exactly as Adonoy commanded them.
And Moshe and Aharon did as the Lord commanded them, so they did.
And Moses and Aaron did as the L-rd commanded them; so did they do.
וּמֹשֶׁה֙ בֶּן־שְׁמֹנִ֣ים שָׁנָ֔ה וְאַֽהֲרֹ֔ן בֶּן־שָׁלֹ֥שׁ וּשְׁמֹנִ֖ים שָׁנָ֑ה בְּדַבְּרָ֖ם אֶל־פַּרְעֹֽה׃{פ}
Moshe was eighty years old and Aharon was eighty-three years old when they spoke to Pharaoh.
And Moshe was eighty years old, and Aharon, eighty three years old, when they spoke to Par῾o.
And Moses was eighty years old and Aaron was eighty-three years old when they spoke to Pharaoh.
Adonoy said to Moshe and Aharon, saying:
And the Lord spoke to Moshe and to Aharon, saying,
And the L-rd said to Moses and to Aaron:
“When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Give yourselves [credibility by displaying] a marvel;’ you [Moshe] should then say to Aharon, ‘Take your rod and throw it down before Pharaoh.’ It will become a serpent.’”
When Par῾o shall speak to you, saying, Show a miracle for yourselves: then thou shalt say to Aharon, Take thy rod, and cast it before Par῾o, and it shall turn into a snake.
When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying: Give us a wonder [i.e., a sign proving the potency of your sender], then say to Aaron: Take your staff and cast it before Pharaoh; it shall be a serpent.
Moshe and Aharon came to Pharaoh and they did exactly as Adonoy commanded [them]. Aharon threw his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants and it became a serpent.
And Moshe and Aharon went in to Par῾o, and they did so as the Lord had commanded: and Aharon threw down his rod before Par῾o, and before his servants, and it turned into a snake.
And Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh and they did thus, as the L-rd had commanded. And Aaron cast his staff before Pharaoh and before his servants and it became a serpent.
Pharaoh too called [his] wise men and magicians. The sorcerers of Egypt also did likewise with their magic art.
Then Par῾o also called the wise men and the sorcerers: and the magicians of Miżrayim, they also did in like manner with their secret arts.
And Pharaoh, too, called to the wise men and the magicians; and the necromancers of Egypt did likewise through their charms.
When each man threw down his rod they (the rods) became serpents, and Aharon’s rod swallowed their rods.
For they cast down every man his rod, and they turned to snakes: but Aharon’s rod swallowed up their rods.
And each cast down his staff and they became serpents, and the staff of Aaron [(i.e., after the serpent had reverted to a staff)] swallowed their staffs.
וַיֶּֽחֱזַק֙ לֵ֣ב פַּרְעֹ֔ה וְלֹ֥א שָׁמַ֖ע אֲלֵהֶ֑ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהֹוָֽה׃{ס}
Pharaoh’s heart [remained] hard and he did not listen to them, just as Adonoy had foretold.
And the heart of Par῾o was hardened, that he did not hearken to them; as the Lord had said.
And Pharaoh's heart became strong and he did not pay heed to them, as the L-rd had spoken.
Adonoy said to Moshe, “Pharaoh’s heart is heavy [unmoved]. He refuses to let the people go.
And the Lord said to Moshe, Par῾o’s heart is hardened, he refuses to let the people go.
And the L-rd said to Moses: The heart of Pharaoh is hard. He refuses to send the people.
Go to Pharaoh in the morning when he goes out to the water, and stand there to meet him by the bank of the river. The rod that was turned into a snake, take in your hand.
Get thee to Par῾o in the morning; lo, he goes out to the water; and thou shalt stand by the River’s brink to meet him; and the rod which was turned to a snake shalt thou take in thy hand.
Go to Pharaoh in the morning. Behold, he goes out to the water in the morning [to ease himself by the Nile (in secret, so that his people not be disabused of his godhood)]. And stand opposite him on the bank of the Nile; and the staff which turned into a serpent take in your hand.
Say to him, “Adonoy, God of the Hebrews, sent me to you to say [to you], ‘Send out My people that they may worship Me in the wilderness. Behold, thus far you have not listened.
And thou shalt say to him, The Lord God of the Hebrews has sent me to thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, till now thou wouldst not hear.
And you shall say to him: The L-rd, the G-d of the Hebrews, has sent me to you, saying: Send out My people that they may serve Me in the desert; and you have not heeded (this) until now.
This is what Adonoy has said, ‘By this you will know that I am Adonoy. Behold, with the rod that is in my hand, I will strike the water of the river and it will turn into blood.
Thus says the Lord, In this thou shalt know that I am the Lord: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in my hand upon the water in the River, and it shall be turned to blood.
Thus says the L-rd: By this you will know that I am the L-rd. Behold, I will strike with the staff in my hand the waters of the Nile and they shall turn to blood, [G-d first smiting their god, the Nile (their water source in the absence of rain), and then, they themselves.]
וְהַדָּגָ֧ה אֲשֶׁר־בַּיְאֹ֛ר תָּמ֖וּת וּבָאַ֣שׁ הַיְאֹ֑ר וְנִלְא֣וּ מִצְרַ֔יִם לִשְׁתּ֥וֹת מַ֖יִם מִן־הַיְאֹֽר׃{ס}
The fish that is in the river will die, and the river will become polluted. The Egyptians will weary themselves [trying to purify] drinking water from the river.’”
And the fish that is in the River shall die, and the river shall stink; and Miżrayim shall no longer be able to drink the water of the River.
And the fish in the Nile shall die, and the Nile shall reek, and the Egyptians shall weary themselves [in quest of a "cure"] to drink water from the Nile.
Adonoy said to Moshe, “Say to Aharon, ‘Take your rod and extend your hand over the waters of Egypt—over their rivers, over their canals, over their lakes, and over every place where their water is gathered, and it [the water] will become blood. There will be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, [even] in [vessels] of wood and [vessels] of stone.”
And the Lord spoke to Moshe, Say to Aharon, Take thy rod, and stretch out thy hand upon the waters of Miżrayim, upon their streams, upon their canals, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Miżrayim, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.
And the L-rd said to Moses: Say to Aaron: Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt [(Because the Nile "protected" Moses when he was cast into it (as an infant), it was not smitten through him, but through Aaron for the plagues of blood and frogs)], over their rivers, over their canals, over their standing waters, and over all their gatherings of water, and they shall be blood. And there will be blood in all the land of Egypt [even in the bath-houses and house-tubs] and in [water in] wood and stone [vessels].
Moshe and Aharon did exactly as Adonoy commanded them. He [Aharon] lifted the rod and struck the water in the river before the eyes of Pharaoh and before the eyes of his [Pharaoh’s] servants, and all the water of the river turned into blood.
And Moshe and Aharon did so, as the Lord commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the River, in the sight of Par῾o, and in the sight of his servants; and all the water that was in the River was turned to blood.
And Moses and Aaron did thus, as the L-rd had commanded. And he raised the staff and he smote the waters in the Nile before the eyes of Pharaoh and before the eyes of his servants. And all the water in the Nile turned to blood.
The fish that were in the river died, and the river became so polluted that the Egyptians were unable to drink the water from the river. There was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
And the fish that was in the River died; and the River stank, and Miżrayim could not drink of the water of the River; and there was blood throughout all the land of Miżrayim.
And the fish in the Nile died, and the Nile reeked, and the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. And the blood was throughout the land of Egypt.
The sorcerers of Egypt did likewise with their magic art. Pharaoh’s heart remained hardened and he did not listen to them, just as Adonoy had spoken.
And the magicians of Par῾o did so with their secret arts: and Par῾o’s heart was hardened, neither did he hearken to them; as the Lord had said.
And the necromancers of Egypt did likewise through their charms. And Pharaoh's heart was strengthened and he did not pay heed to them, as the L-rd had spoken.
Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and paid no attention even to this [miracle].
And Par῾o turned and went to his house, neither did he set his heart even to this.
And Pharaoh turned and came to his house, and he did not set his heart to this [the plague of blood], too, [as well as (not) to the staff's turning into a serpent].
The Egyptians dug around the river for water to drink, for they could not drink from the waters of the river.
And all Miżrayim dug round about the River for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the River.
And all of Egypt dug around the Nile for water to drink, for they could not drink from the waters of the Nile.
וַיִּמָּלֵ֖א שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֑ים אַחֲרֵ֥י הַכּוֹת־יְהֹוָ֖ה אֶת־הַיְאֹֽר׃{פ}
Seven full days [passed] after Adonoy had struck the river.
And seven days were completed, after the Lord had smitten the River.
And seven days [of plague] were completed after the L-rd had smitten the Nile [before it returned to its original state, each plague obtaining for a quarter of a month, and three-quarters for warning.]
Adonoy said to Moshe, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what Adonoy has said, “Send out my people so they may worship Me.
And the Lord spoke to Moshe, Go to Par῾o, and say to him, Thus says the Lord, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
And the L-rd said to Moses: Come to Pharaoh and say to him: Thus said the L-rd: Send out My people and let them serve Me.
If you refuse to send [them,] behold I will plague all your borders [territories] with frogs.
And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs:
And if you are a refuser, (not) to send out, behold, I shall smite all of your border with frogs.
The river will swarm with frogs. They will emerge and come into your house, into your bedroom, and on your bed, into the houses of your servants and your people, into your ovens and into your kneading bowls.
and the river shall bring forth frogs in swarms, and these will go up and come into thy house, and into thy bedchamber, and upon thy bed, and into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thy ovens, and into thy kneading troughs:
And the Nile shall swarm frogs, and they shall go up [from the Nile] and come [first] into your house, [Pharaoh having counseled first against the Jews (1:9)], and into your bed chamber and upon your bed, and [then] into the house of your servants, and into your people, and into your ovens and into your kneading troughs.
Upon you and upon your people and upon all your servants the frogs will emerge.
and the frogs shall come up both on thee, and on thy people, and on all thy servants.
And in you [i.e., in your innards] and in your people and in all of your servants shall the frogs go up.
