And in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
Son of man, write the name of the day, of this same day: the king of Bavel has invested Yerushalayim on this very day.
And utter a parable to the rebellious house, and say to them, Thus says the Lord God; Set on the pot, set it on, and also pour water into it:
gather the pieces of meat into it, every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with choice bones.
מִבְחַ֤ר הַצֹּאן֙ לָק֔וֹחַ וְגַ֛ם דּ֥וּר הָעֲצָמִ֖ים תַּחְתֶּ֑יהָ רַתַּ֣ח רְתָחֶ֔יהָ גַּם־בָּשְׁל֥וּ עֲצָמֶ֖יהָ בְּתוֹכָֽהּ׃{ס}
Take the choice of the flock, and also pile the bones under it; make it boil well, and let the bones of it be cooked in it.
Therefore thus says the Lord God; Woe to the bloody city, to the pot in which there is filth, for its filth is not gone out of it! bring it out piece by piece; no lot has fallen upon it.
For her blood is in the midst of her; she set it upon the bare rock; she poured it not upon the ground, to cover it with dust;
לְהַעֲל֤וֹת חֵמָה֙ לִנְקֹ֣ם נָקָ֔ם נָתַ֥תִּי אֶת־דָּמָ֖הּ עַל־צְחִ֣יחַ סָ֑לַע לְבִלְתִּ֖י הִכָּסֽוֹת׃{פ}
that it might cause fury to come, that vengeance might be taken, for I have set her blood upon the bare rock, that it should not be covered.
Therefore thus says the Lord God; Woe to the bloody city! I too will make the pile great.
Heap on wood, kindle the fire, boil away the meat, and mix the spices, and let the bones be reduced to ashes.
Then set it empty upon its glowing embers, that the brass of it may be heated, and may burn, and that the impurity of it may be molten in it, that the filth of it may be consumed.
Futile is the toil, for her great filth went not out of her: her filth is noisome.
Because of thy lewd uncleanliness, because I have purged thee, and thou wast not purged, thou shalt not be purged from thy filthiness any more, till I have relieved my fury upon thee.
אֲנִ֨י יְהֹוָ֤ה דִּבַּ֙רְתִּי֙ בָּאָ֣ה וְעָשִׂ֔יתִי לֹא־אֶפְרַ֥ע וְלֹא־אָח֖וּס וְלֹ֣א אֶנָּחֵ֑ם כִּדְרָכַ֤יִךְ וְכַעֲלִילוֹתַ֙יִךְ֙ שְׁפָט֔וּךְ נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יֱהֹוִֽה׃{פ}
I the Lord have spoken it: it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall they judge thee, says the Lord God.
Also the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
Son of man, behold, I am about to take away from thee the delight of thy eyes at a stroke: yet thou shalt neither mourn nor weep, nor shall thy tears run down.
Sigh in silence; make no mourning for the dead, bind on thy turban, and put on thy shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, nor eat the bread of men.
So I spoke to the people in the morning: and at evening my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.
And the people said to me, Wilt thou not tell us what these things mean to us, that thou doest?
Then I answered them, The word of the Lord has come to me, saying,
Speak to the house of Yisra᾽el, Thus says the Lord God; Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your strength, the delight of your eyes, and the longing of your soul; and your sons and your daughters whom you have left behind shall fall by the sword.
And you shall do as I have done: you shall not cover your lips, nor eat the bread of men.
And your turbans shall remain upon your heads, and your shoes upon your feet: you shall neither mourn nor weep; but you shall pine away for your iniquities, and groan to one another.
וְהָיָ֨ה יְחֶזְקֵ֤אל לָכֶם֙ לְמוֹפֵ֔ת כְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֖ה תַּעֲשׂ֑וּ בְּבוֹאָ֕הּ וִידַעְתֶּ֕ם כִּ֥י אֲנִ֖י אֲדֹנָ֥י יֱהֹוִֽה׃{ס}
Thus shall Yeĥezqel be a sign for you: according to all that he has done shall you do: and when this comes about, you shall know that I am the Lord God.
Also, thou son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that whereon they set their minds, their sons and their daughters,
that on that day he that escapes shall come to thee, to cause thee to hear it with thy ears?
בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֗וּא יִפָּ֤תַח פִּ֙יךָ֙ אֶת־הַפָּלִ֔יט וּתְדַבֵּ֕ר וְלֹ֥א תֵאָלֵ֖ם ע֑וֹד וְהָיִ֤יתָ לָהֶם֙ לְמוֹפֵ֔ת וְיָדְע֖וּ כִּי־אֲנִ֥י יְהֹוָֽה׃{פ}
On that day shall thy mouth be opened to the fugitive, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb: and thou shalt be a sign to them; and they shall know that I am the Lord.
