He [Yaakov] heard the words of Lavan’s sons [who were] saying, Yaakov has taken all that belonged to our father. From that which was our father’s, he made all this wealth.

And he heard the words of Lavan’s sons, saying, Ya῾aqov has taken away all that was our father’s; and of that which was our father’s has he gotten all his glory.

And he heard the words of the sons of Lavan, saying: Jacob has taken all that is our father's, and from our father's did he gather all this substance.

Yaakov saw Lavan’s face [demeanor] and it was not toward him as it was before.

And Ya῾aqov beheld the face of Lavan, and, behold, it was not towards him as before.

And Jacob saw the face of Lavan, and, behold, it was not with him as of yore.

Adonoy said to Yaakov, Return to the land of your fathers and to your birthplace, and I will be with you.

And the Lord said to Ya῾aqov, Return to the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.

And the L rd said to Jacob: Return to the land of your fathers and to your birthplace and I shall be with you, [it not being possible to repose my Shechinah with you while you are "linked to uncleanliness"].

Yaakov sent and called Rochel and Leah to [come to] the field, to his flock.

And Ya῾aqov sent and called Raĥel and Le᾽a to the field to his flock,

And Jacob sent and he called to Rachel and to Leah to the field to his flock.

He said to them, I saw your father’s face; it is not toward me as it was before, but the God of my father was with me.

and he said to them, I see your father’s face, that it is not towards me as before; but the God of my father has been with me.

And he said to them: I see that your father's face is not with me as of yore; and my father's G d was with me.

You know that I served your father with all my strength.

And you know that with all my power I have served your father.

And you know that with all my strength did I serve your father.

Your father cheated me and changed my wage ten countings; but Elohim did not let him harm me.

And your father has deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God did not allow him to hurt me.

And your father deceived me and he changed my hire ten tens [i.e., a hundred times], but G d did not allow him to do evil with me.

If he would say, The speckled will be your wage, then all the flock gave birth to speckled ones. If he would say, Ringed ones will be your wage, all the flock gave birth to ringed ones.

If he said thus, The speckled shall be thy wages; then all the flock bore speckled: and if he said thus, The streaked shall be thy hire; then all the flock bore streaked.

If he said thus: "The speckled shall be your hire," then all the flocks bore speckled. And if he said thus: "The ringstraked shall be your hire," then all the flocks bore ringstraked.

Thus God delivered your father’s livestock, and gave it to me.

Thus God has taken away the cattle of your father, and given it to me.

And G d delivered the kine of your father and He gave them to me.

At the time the flock were in heat [to mate], I lifted my eyes, and in a dream I saw that the males going upon the flock were ringed, speckled and striped.

And it came to pass at the time that the flock conceived, that I raised my eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were streaked, speckled, and grizzled.

And it was, at the time the flocks were heated, I lifted up my eyes and I saw in a dream: Behold, the rams which went up on the sheep were ringstraked, speckled, and grizzled.

An angel of Elohim said to me in a dream, Yaakov, and I said, Here I am.

And the angel of God spoke to me in a dream, saying, Ya῾aqov: And I said, Here I am.

And an angel of G d said to me in a dream: "Jacob." And I said: "Here I am."

He said, Lift up your eyes and see, all the males going up on the flock are ringed, speckled, and striped; for I have seen all that Lavan is doing to you.

And he said, Lift up now thy eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the flock are streaked, speckled, and grizzled: for I have seen all that Lavan does to thee.

And he said: Lift up your eyes now and see all the rams that go up on the sheep — ringstraked, speckled, and grizzled — for I have seen all that Lavan does to you.

I am the Almighty of Elohim who appeared to you in Beis Eil, where you anointed a monument, where you made a vow to Me. Now arise and leave this land, and return to the land of your birthplace.

I am the God of Bet-el, where thou didst anoint a pillar, and where thou didst vow a vow to me: now arise, get out of this land, and return to the land of thy birth.

I am the G d of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar where you vowed a vow unto Me, [which it is now time to fulfill (see 28:22)]. Now, arise, go out of this land and return to the land of your birth.

Rochel and Leah replied and said to him, Do we still have a portion and an inheritance in our father’s house?

And Raĥel and Le᾽a answered and said to him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father’s house?

And Rachel and Leah answered and said to him: Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house? [Why, then, should we detain you?]

Are we not considered by him as strangers? For he has sold us, and has completely consumed our money.

Are we not counted strangers by him? for he has sold us, and has quite devoured also our money.

Does he not regard us as strangers? For [he did not give us a dowry as is customary, but] he sold us [to you for your labor], and he also consumed our money, [withholding your wages].

All the wealth that Elohim rescued from our father belongs to us and our children. Now, whatever God has said to you, do it.

For all the riches which God has taken from our father, it is ours, and our children’s: now then, whatever God has said to thee, do.

But [only] all of the wealth that G d confiscated from our father is ours and our children's. And now, everything that G d says to you, do.

Yaakov rose and lifted his sons and his wives upon the camels.

Then Ya῾aqov rose up, and set his sons and his wives on the camels;

And Jacob arose and he lifted his sons and his wives onto the camels.

He led away all his livestock, and all his possessions that he had acquired, which he had purchased with his own livestock that he had acquired in Padan Aram, [in order] to come to Yitzchok, his father, to the land of Canaan.

and he carried away all his cattle, and all his goods which he had acquired, the cattle of his getting, which he had acquired in Paddan-aram, to go to Yiżĥaq his father in the land of Kena῾an.

And he conveyed all of his kine and all of the substance that he had gotten, the acquisition [maidservants, etc.] of his accession [the flocks (see 30:43)], which he had acquired in Padan Aram, to come to Isaac his father in the land of Canaan.

Lavan [meanwhile] had gone to shear his flock, and Rochel stole the idols that belonged to her father.

And Lavan went to shear his sheep. Now Raĥel had stolen the images that were her father’s.

And Lavan had gone to shear his sheep [a three days distance (see 30:26)], and Rachel stole her father's teraphim [to break him of idolatry].

Yaakov fooled Lavan, the Aramean, by not telling him that he had fled.

And Ya῾aqov outwitted Lavan the Arammian, in that he told him not that he fled.

And Jacob stole the heart of Lavan the Aramite, not telling him that he fled.

He fled with all that he possessed. He set out and crossed the river, setting out in the direction of Mount Gilod.

So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the river and set his face toward the mount Gil῾ad.

And he fled, he and all that was with him, and he arose and crossed over the river, and he set his face towards Mount Gilead.

Lavan was told on the third day that Yaakov had fled.

And it was told Lavan on the third day that Ya῾aqov was fled.

And it was told to Lavan on the third day that Jacob had fled.

He took his brothers [kinsmen] with him, and pursued him a distance of seven days. He overtook him in Mount Gilod.

And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him a seven days’ journey; and they overtook him in the mount Gil῾ad.

And he took his brethren with him and pursued him, [covering] a distance of seven days [in one day], and he overtook him in Mount Gilead.

Elohim appeared to Lavan the Aramean, in a dream that night, and said to him, Guard yourself, that you do not speak to Yaakov either good or evil.

And God came to Lavan the Arammian in a dream by night, and said to him, Take heed that thou speak not to Ya῾aqov either good or bad. Then Lavan overtook Ya῾aqov.

And G d came to Lavan the Aramite in a dream by night and He said to him: Take heed lest you speak with Jacob from good to evil. ["All the good of the wicked is evil to the righteous."]

Lavan overtook Yaakov. Yaakov had set up his tents on the mountain, and Lavan and his brothers had set up on Mount Gilod.

Now Ya῾aqov had pitched his tent in the mount: and Lavan with his brethren pitched in the mount of Gil῾ad.

And Lavan overtook Jacob. And Jacob had pitched his tent in the mountain. And Lavan pitched (his tent) with his brethren in Mount Gilead.

Lavan said to Yaakov, What have you done? You fooled me, and led my daughters away like prisoners of war.

And Lavan said to Ya῾aqov, What hast thou done, that thou hast cheated me, and carried away my daughters, as captives taken with the sword?

And Lavan said to Jacob: What have you done, that you have stolen my heart and led away my daughters like captives of the sword?

Why did you flee so stealthily? You robbed me and did not tell me. I would have sent you away, with joy and with song, with drum and harp.

Why didst thou flee away secretly, and rob me; and didst not tell me, that I might have sent thee away with mirth, and with songs, with timbrel, and with lyre?

Why did you flee in secret, stealing ["my mind"] from me and not telling me? I would have sent you away with joy and song, with timbrel and lyre.

You did not let me kiss my [grand]sons and daughters. Now see how foolishly you acted.

And hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? thou hast now done foolishly.

And you did not allow me to kiss my sons and my daughters. You have now done foolishly.

It is within the power of my hand to harm you, but the God of your father spoke to me last night saying, Guard yourself not to speak to Yaakov either good or evil.

It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Ya῾aqov either good or bad.

I have the power to do evil with you, but the G d of your father said to me last night: Take care not to speak to Jacob from good to ill.

Now you have gone for you yearned for your father’s house, but why did you steal my gods?

And now, though thou wouldst needs be gone, because thou dost long after thy father’s house, yet why hast thou stolen my gods?

And now, though you be gone, for you longed for your father's house, why have you stolen my gods?

Yaakov replied and said to Lavan, Because I was afraid, for I said you might forcibly take your daughters from me.

And Ya῾aqov answered and said to Lavan, Because I was afraid: for I said, Perhaps thou wouldst take by force thy daughters from me.

And Jacob answered and he said to Lavan [(answering first things first)]: For I was afraid. For I said: Lest you steal your daughters from me.

With whomsoever you find your gods, he shall not live. In the presence of our brethren, identify anything belonging to you that is here with me and take it back with you. Yaakov did not know that Rochel had stolen them.

Anyone with whom thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee. For Ya῾aqov knew not that Raĥel had stolen them.

With whomever you find your gods, let him not live [(for which reason Rachel died on the road)]. Before our kinsmen, point out what is with me [that is yours], and take it for yourself. And Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen them.

Lavan came into Yaakov’s tent, and into Leah’s tent, and into the tents of the two handmaids, but he found nothing. He left Leah’s tent and came into Rochel’s tent.

And Lavan went into Ya῾aqov’s tent, and into Le᾽a’s tent, and into the two maidservants’ tents; but he found them not. Then he went out of Le᾽a’s tent, and entered into Raĥel’s tent.

And Lavan came into Jacob's [i.e., Rachel's] tent and into the tent of Leah and into the tent of the two handmaids, but he found nothing. And (when) he went out of the tent of Leah, he came [again] into the tent of Rachel, [knowing her to be a "toucher"].

Rochel had taken the idols, and placed them in the camel’s saddle-pillow, and sat upon them. Lavan searched the whole tent and found nothing.

Now Raĥel had taken the images, and put them in the camel’s saddle, and sat upon them. And Lavan searched all the tent, but found them not.

And Rachel had taken the teraphim, and she had placed them on the camel's saddle-pillow and sat upon them. And Lavan "felt out" the whole tent and could not find them.

She said to her father, Let there not be anger in the eyes of my master that I cannot rise before you, for the way of women is upon me. He searched but did not find the idols.

And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before thee; for the way of women is upon me. And he searched, but found not the images.

And she said to her father: Let it not anger my lord that I cannot rise before you, for I am in the way of women. And he searched, and he could not find the teraphim.

Yaakov was angry and he argued with Lavan. Yaakov replied and said to Lavan, What is my crime? What sin did I commit that you were in such hot pursuit of me?

And Ya῾aqov was angry and strove with Lavan: and Ya῾aqov answered and said to Lavan, What is my trespass? what is my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursued after me?

And Jacob was wroth and he strove with Lavan. And Jacob retorted and said to Lavan: What is my offense and what is my sin that you have pursued me?

When you searched all my goods, what did you find of all your household goods? Place it here in the presence of my brethren and your brethren, and let them decide between the two of us.

Although thou hast searched all my stuff what hast thou found of all thy household goods? set it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge between us both.

For you have "felt out" all my articles. What have you found of all your household articles? Put it here before my brethren and yours, and let them judge between us.

These twenty years that I was with you, your ewes and she-goats never miscarried, and I did not eat any rams of your flocks.

This twenty years have I been with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten.

This twenty years have I been with you. Your ewes and your she-goats have not miscarried, and the rams [(even a one-year-old being called a "ram")] of your flock I have not eaten.

I never brought you a mutilated animal. I will take the blame for it. You demanded compensation from my hand whether [an animal] was stolen from me by day or whether it was stolen from me by night.

That which was torn of beasts I brought not to thee; I bore the loss of it; of my hand didst thou require it, whether stolen by day, or stolen by night.

An animal that was torn [by lion or wolf] I did not bring to you. I bore its loss; from my hand did you require it. Whether stolen by day or by night, [I paid for it].

I was consumed by the burning heat by day and ice at night. My sleep was taken from my eyes.

Thus I was; in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep departed from my eyes.

In the day I was consumed by heat and in the night by frost, and sleep departed from my eyes.

These twenty years that I have been in your house, I served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for your sheep, but you changed my wages ten times.

Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times.

This twenty years have I served you in your house — fourteen years for your two daughters and six years for your flocks; and you changed [the conditions of] my hire ten tens [i.e., a hundred times].

Had not the God of my father, the God of Avraham and the Fear of Yitzchok been with me, you would have sent me away empty-handed. My misery and the labor of my hands was seen by Elohim, and He reprimanded you last night.

Were it not that the God of my father, the God of Avraham, and the Fear of Yiżĥaq, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. God has seen my affliction and the labour of my hands, and He rebuked thee last night.

Had not the G d of my father, the G d of Abraham and the Dread of Yitzchak been with me, you would now have sent me away empty. G d saw my affliction and the toil of my hands and He reproved (you) last night.

Lavan replied and said to Yaakov, The daughters are my daughters, and the sons are my sons, and the[se] flocks are my flocks. All that you see is mine. What can I do unto these, my daughters, today, or to their children that they have born.

And Lavan answered and said to Ya῾aqov, These daughters are my daughters, and these children are my children, and these cattle are my cattle, and all that thou seest is mine: and what can I do this day for these my daughters, or for their children whom they have born?

And Lavan answered and he said to Jacob: The daughters are my daughters, and the sons are my sons, and the flocks are my flocks, and everything you see is mine. And, as for my daughters, what can I do to these today or to their children that they shall bear [i.e., How can it enter my mind to harm them?]

Now come [therefore] let us make a pact, I and you. Let Him be witness between me and you.

Now therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and thee.

And now, come, let us make a covenant, I and you, and let Him be a witness between me and you.

Yaakov took a boulder and raised it as a monument.

And Ya῾aqov took a stone, and set it up for a pillar.

And Jacob took a stone and he set it up as a monument.

Yaakov said to his brethren, Gather stones. They took stones and made a mound, and they ate on the mound.

And Ya῾aqov said to his brethren, Gather stones; and they took stones, and made a heap: and they did eat there upon the heap.

And Jacob said to his brethren [i.e., his sons]: Gather stones. And they took stones and made a heap. And they ate there on the heap.

Lavan called it Yegar Sohadusa, but Yaakov called it Galeid.

And Lavan called it Yegar-sahaduta: but Ya῾aqov called it Gal῾ed.

And Lavan called it Yegar Sahadutha ("the heap of testimony"), and Jacob called it Gal Ed [(the same)].

Lavan said, This mound is witness between me and you this day. He therefore called its name Galeid.

And Lavan said, This heap is a witness between me and thee this day.

And Lavan said: This heap is testimony between me and you this day — wherefore its name is called Gal Ed.

And [he also called it] Mitzpah [Watchtower] because he said, Adonoy will watch between me and you, when we are concealed from each other[’s sight].

Therefore was the name of it called Gal῾ed; and also Miżpa; for he said, The Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another.

And (it is also called) Mitzpah, [one of them] having said [to the other]: May the L rd see [yitzef] between me and you when one of us is absent from the other.

If you afflict my daughters, or marry other wives in addition to my daughters, there may be no man with us, but see, Elohim is witness between me and you.

If thou shalt afflict my daughters, or if thou shalt take other wives beside my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness between me and thee.

If you afflict my daughters [by withholding their conjugal times] and if you take wives in addition to my daughters [(Bilhah and Zilpah, too, were his daughters by a concubine)], no man being with us, see, G d is a witness between me and you.

Lavan said to Yaakov, Here is this mound, and here is this monument that I have cast between me and you.

And Lavan said to Ya῾aqov, Behold this heap, and behold this pillar, which I have set between me and thee;

And Lavan said to Jacob: Behold this heap and behold this monument which I have set up between me and you.

This mound is witness, and the monument is witness, that I will not cross over to you beyond this mound; and you are not to cross over to me beyond this mound and this monument for harmful purposes.

this heap be witness, and this pillar be witness, that I will not pass over this heap to thee, and that thou shalt not pass over this heap and this pillar to me, for harm.

This heap is testimony and the monument is testimony that I will not cross this heap to you and you will not cross to me this heap and this monument for ill. [(You may not cross it for ill, but you may cross it for trade.)]

The God of Avraham and the god of Nachor, the god of their fathers will judge between us. Yaakov swore by the Fear of his father, Yitzchok.

The God of Avraham, and the god of Naĥor, the god of their father, judge between us. And Ya῾aqov swore by the Fear of his father Yiżĥaq.

The G d of Abraham and the god of Nachor judge between us, the god of their father [Terach]. And Jacob swore by the Dread of his father, Isaac.

Yaakov slaughtered animals on the mountain, and invited his brethren to eat bread [a meal]. They ate bread and spent the night on the mountain.

Then Ya῾aqov offered sacrifice upon the mount, and called his brethren to eat bread: and they did eat bread, and tarried all night on the mountain.

And Jacob slaughtered a slaughtering in the mountain and he called his brethren [his close friends who were with Lavan] to partake of the meal, and they partook of the meal and spent the night in the mountain.
