Yoseif fell on the face of his father, and wept over him and kissed him.

And Yosef fell on his father’s face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.

And Joseph fell on his father's face, and he wept over him, and he kissed him.

Yoseif commanded his servants, the physicians, to embalm his father and the physicians embalmed Yisrael.

And Yosef commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Yisra᾽el.

And Joseph commanded his servants, the physicians, to embalm his father. And the physicians embalmed Israel.

They completed forty days [of embalmment] for him, for that is the number of days required for embalming. The Egyptians wept for him seventy days.

And forty days were fulfilled for him: for so are fulfilled the days of those who are embalmed: and Miżrayim wept for him seventy days.

And forty days were completed for him, the days of embalming thus being completed, and Egypt mourned him seventy days [(from the beginning of the embalming) for he had brought blessing upon them, the famine ending and the waters of the Nile being blessed].

[When] the days of weeping were over, Yoseif spoke to the house of Pharaoh saying, If I have found favor in your eyes, please speak in Pharaoh’s ears, saying.

And when the days of his mourning were past, Yosef spoke to the house of Par῾o, saying, If now I have found favour in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Par῾o, saying,

And the days of weeping passed, and Joseph spoke to the house of Pharaoh, saying: If I have found favor in your eyes, speak thus, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh:

My father made me swear [an oath] saying, Behold I am dying. In my grave that I have prepared for myself in the land of Canaan, there you shall bury me. Now therefore, please, I would go up and bury my father, and then I will return.

My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have dug for myself in the land of Kena῾an there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come back.

My father adjured me, saying: I am going to die. In my grave, which I dug for myself in the land of Canaan — there shall you bury me. And now, let me go up, I pray you, and bury my father, and I will return.

Pharaoh said, Go up and bury your father, just as he made you swear.

And Par῾o said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.

And Pharaoh said: Go up and bury your father, as he adjured you. [If not for your oath I would not let you go.]

Yoseif went up to bury his father; and with him went up all Pharaohs servant’s, the elders of this house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,

And Yosef went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Par῾o, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Miżrayim.

And Joseph went up to bury his father, and there went up with him all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house and all the elders of the land of Egypt.

And all Yoseif’s household, his brothers and his father’s household. Only their little ones, their sheep and their cattle did they leave behind in the land of Goshen.

And all the house of Yosef, and his brothers, and his father’s house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.

And all the house of Joseph and his brothers and his fathers' house. Only their little ones and their flocks and their herds they left in the land of Goshen.

With him also went up chariots and horsemen. It was a very imposing camp.

And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.

And there went up with him also chariots, also horsemen. And the camp was greatly laden.

They came to the threshing place of Atad, which is on the other side of the Jordan, and there they eulogized [him and held] a very great and imposing funeral. He [Yoseif] made seven days of mourning for his father.

And they came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond the Yarden, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father of seven days.

And they came to the threshing floor of Atad [so called because it was surrounded by thorns (atadim)] on the other side of the Jordan, and they made great and sore lamentation there, and he made mourning for his father, seven days.

The Canaanites who lived in the land saw the mourning in the threshing place of Atad, and they said, This is heavy mourning for Egypt. It was therefore named Egypt’s Mourning, which is on the other side of the Jordan.

And when the inhabitants of the land, the Kena῾ani, saw the mourning at the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to Miżrayim: so that the name of it was called Avel-miżrayim, which is beyond the Yarden.

And the inhabitants of the land, the Canaani, saw the mourning in the threshing floor of Atad, and they said: This is great mourning (evel) for Egypt, wherefore they called it Evel-Mitzrayim, which is beyond the Jordan.

His sons did for him as he commanded them.

And his sons did to him according as he had commanded them:

And his sons did to him thus, as he had commanded them [viz. (13)]:

His sons carried him to the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpeilah, which Avraham purchased along with the field, for a possession as a burial place, from Ephron, the Chittite, facing Mamrei.

for his sons carried him into the land of Kena῾an, and buried him in the cave of the field of Makhpela, which Avraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace from ῾Efron the Ḥittite, before Mamre.

And his sons [and not his sons' sons (who were born of Canaanite women)] bore him [in the positions he assigned to them (corresponding to the traveling order of the flags in the desert)] to the land of Canaan, and they buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which field Abraham had bought as a burial holding from Efron the Chitti before Mamre.

Yoseif returned to Egypt, he and his brothers, and all those who went with him, to bury his father, after he had buried his father.

And Yosef returned to Miżrayim, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.

And Joseph returned to Egypt, he and his brothers [first] and all who went up with him [(as opposed to their leaving, when the Egyptians went first (8), the Egyptians granting them precedence after witnessing the honor accorded them by the kings of Canaan)] to bury his father, after he had buried his father.

Yoseif’s brothers saw that their father was dead, and they said, Perhaps Yoseif still bears a grudge against us. He will then certainly repay us for all the evil that we did him.

And when Yosef’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, What if Yosef will hate us, and will pay us back the evil which we did to him.

And the brothers of Joseph saw that their father was dead [i.e., his death was made "manifest" in Joseph's no longer inviting them to dine with him, as he had before in his father's honor], and they said: Perhaps Joseph will hate us and will requite unto us all of the evil which we caused him.

They sent a command to Yoseif saying, Your father issued a command before his death, saying,

And they sent word urgently to Yosef, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,

And they appointed [the sons of Bilhah as messengers] to Joseph to say: Your father commanded before his death, saying [(He had not so commanded, but they "dissimulated for the sake of peace")]:

This is what you should say to Yoseif, Please forgive the transgression of your brothers and their sin, for they did evil to you. And now please forgive the transgr ession of the servants of the God of your father. Yoseif wept as his brothers spoke to him.

So shall you say to Yosef, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brothers, and their sin; for they did evil to thee: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Yosef wept when they spoke to him.

Thus shall you say to Joseph: "Forgive, I pray you, the offense of your brothers and their sin. For they requited evil unto you." And now, we pray you, forgive the offense of the servants of the G d of your father. [Though your father is dead, his G d lives, and they are His servants.] And Joseph wept when they spoke to him.

His brothers also went and threw themselves down before him, and they said, Behold, we are your slaves.

And his brothers even went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we are thy servants.

And his brothers also went [in addition to their deputation], and they fell before him and they said: Behold, we are your servants.

Yoseif said to them, Fear not. For am I in place of Elohim?

And Yosef said to them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

And Joseph said to them: Do not fear, for am I in the place of G d? [If He protected me from all of you, how could I alone injure you?]

You meant to do evil to me, but Elohim meant it for good, in order to do as it is today, to preserve the lives of a great people.

But as for you, you thought evil against me; but God meant it for good, to bring it to pass at this day that much people should be saved alive.

And you thought evil against me. G d thought it for good, in order to do as this day to give life to a great populace.

And now, fear not. I will provide for you and your little ones. He comforted them and spoke to their hearts.

Now therefore fear not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spoke kindly to them.

And now, do not fear. I will sustain you and your little ones. And he comforted them and he spoke to their hearts [reassuringly].

Yoseif lived in Egypt, he and his father’s household. Yoseif lived one hundred and ten years.

And Yosef dwelt in Miżrayim, he, and his father’s house: and Yosef lived a hundred and ten years.

And Joseph abode in Egypt, he and his father's house. And Joseph lived a hundred and ten years.

Yoseif saw Ephraim’s children of the third generations. The children of Machir, Menasheh’s son, were born on Yoseif’s knees.

And Yosef saw Efrayim’s children of the third generation: the children also of Makhir the son of Menashshe were born on Yosef’s knees.

And Joseph saw of Ephraim sons of the third generation. Also the sons of Machir the son of Menasheh were raised on Joseph's knees.

Yoseif said to his brothers, I will die, and Elohim will surely consider you and bring you up out of this land, to the land which He swore to Avraham, Yitzchok and to Yaakov.

And Yosef said to his brothers, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you up out of this land to the land of which He swore to Avraham, to Yiżĥaq, and to Ya῾aqov.

And Joseph said to his brothers: I am dying, and G d shall remember you and bring you up from this land to the land that He swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Yoseif made the sons of Yisrael swear, saying, Elohim will surely consider you, and you shall bring my bones up from here.

And Yosef took an oath of the children of Yisra᾽el, saying, God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.

And Joseph beswore the children of Israel, saying: G d will remember you and you will bring up my bones from here.

Yoseif died being a hundred and ten years old. They embalmed him and he was placed in a coffin in Egypt. Chazak

So Yosef died, being a hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Miżrayim.
