And David said to all the congregation of Yisra᾽el, If it seem good to you, and that it be of the Lord our God, let us send abroad to our brethren everywhere, who are left in all the land of Yisra᾽el, and with them also to the priests and Levites who are in their cities that have pasture lands that they may gather themselves to us:

And David said to the entire congregation of Israel: If it is acceptable to you, and it has gone forth from the L-rd our G-d, let us send to our brothers remaining in all the lands of Israel, and with them, the Cohanim and the Levites in the cities of their open lands, and let them gather themselves unto us.

וְנָסֵ֛בָּה אֶת־אֲר֥וֹן אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ אֵלֵ֑ינוּ כִּֽי־לֹ֥א דְרַשְׁנֻ֖הוּ בִּימֵ֥י שָׁאֽוּל׃

and let us bring back the ark of our God to us: for we did not inquire at it in the days of Sha᾽ul.

So David gathered all Yisra᾽el together, from Shiĥor of Miżrayim as far as the entrance of Ḥamat, to bring the ark of God from Qiryat-ye῾arim.

And David went up, and all Yisra᾽el to Ba῾ala, that is, to Qiryat-ye῾arim, which belonged to Yehuda, to bring up from there the ark of God the Lord, who dwells above the keruvim, by whose name it is called.

And they carried the ark of God in a new cart out of the house of Avinadav: and ῾Uzza and Aĥyo drove the cart.

וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ עַד־גֹּ֣רֶן כִּידֹ֑ן וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח עֻזָּ֜א אֶת־יָד֗וֹ לֶֽאֱחֹז֙ אֶת־הָ֣אָר֔וֹן כִּ֥י שָֽׁמְט֖וּ הַבָּקָֽר׃

And when they came to the threshing floor of Kidon, ῾Uzza put out his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen shook it.

And they came to Goren-Kiddon, and Uzza sent forth his hand to take hold of the ark, for the oxen had caused (it) to sway.

וַיִּֽחַר־אַ֤ף יְהֹוָה֙ בְּעֻזָּ֔א וַיַּכֵּ֕הוּ עַ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־שָׁלַ֥ח יָד֖וֹ עַל־הָאָר֑וֹן וַיָּ֥מׇת שָׁ֖ם לִפְנֵ֥י אֱלֹהִֽים׃

And the anger of the Lord burned against ῾Uzza, and he smote him, because he put his hand to the ark: and there he died before God.

And the L-rd was wroth with Uzza, and He smote him for having sent forth his hand to the ark [viz. II Samuel 6:7], and he died there before G-d.

וַיִּ֣חַר לְדָוִ֔יד כִּֽי־פָרַ֧ץ יְהֹוָ֛ה פֶּ֖רֶץ בְּעֻזָּ֑א וַיִּקְרָ֞א לַמָּק֤וֹם הַהוּא֙ פֶּ֣רֶץ עֻזָּ֔א עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃

And David was vexed, because the Lord had broken out upon ῾Uzza: so that place is called Pereż-῾uzza to this day.

And David grieved over the L-rd's having made a breach (peretz) in Uzza. And he called that place Peretz-Uzza until this day.

וַיִּירָ֤א דָוִיד֙ אֶת־הָ֣אֱלֹהִ֔ים בַּיּ֥וֹם הַה֖וּא לֵאמֹ֑ר הֵ֚יךְ אָבִ֣יא אֵלַ֔י אֵ֖ת אֲר֥וֹן הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃

And David was afraid of God that day, saying, How shall I bring the ark of God home to me?

And David feared G-d on that day, saying: How will I bring to me the ark of G-d?

וְלֹא־הֵסִ֨יר דָּוִ֧יד אֶת־הָאָר֛וֹן אֵלָ֖יו אֶל־עִ֣יר דָּוִ֑יד וַיַּטֵּ֕הוּ אֶל־בֵּ֥ית עֹבֵֽד־אֱדֹ֖ם הַגִּתִּֽי׃

So David did not bring the ark to himself to the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of ῾Oved-edom the Gittite.

And David did not turn the ark to himself to the city of David, and he diverted it to the house of Oved-edom, the Gittite [(a Levite gatekeeper)].

וַיֵּ֩שֶׁב֩ אֲר֨וֹן הָאֱלֹהִ֜ים עִם־בֵּ֨ית עֹבֵ֥ד אֱדֹ֛ם בְּבֵית֖וֹ שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה חֳדָשִׁ֑ים וַיְבָ֧רֶךְ יְהֹוָ֛ה אֶת־בֵּ֥ית עֹבֵֽד־אֱדֹ֖ם וְאֶת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר־לֽוֹ׃{ס}

And the ark of God remained with the family of ῾Oved-edom in his house for three months. And the Lord blessed the house of ῾Oved-edom and all that he had.
