וּבְנֵ֨י רְאוּבֵ֥ן בְּכֽוֹר־יִשְׂרָאֵל֮ כִּ֣י ה֣וּא הַבְּכוֹר֒ וּֽבְחַלְּלוֹ֙ יְצוּעֵ֣י אָבִ֔יו נִתְּנָה֙ בְּכֹ֣רָת֔וֹ לִבְנֵ֥י יוֹסֵ֖ף בֶּן־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְלֹ֥א לְהִתְיַחֵ֖שׂ לַבְּכֹרָֽה׃
Now the sons of Re᾽uven the firstborn of Yisra᾽el, (for he was the firstborn; but, since he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given to the sons of Yosef the son of Yisra᾽el: but not so as to have the birthright attributed to him by genealogy.
And the sons of Reuven, the "bechor" of Israel," ([Reuven] being his first-born. But when he profaned his father's sheets [viz. Genesis 49:4], his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph, the son of Israel — but not [for Joseph] to be reckoned as the first-born [for kingship];
כִּ֤י יְהוּדָה֙ גָּבַ֣ר בְּאֶחָ֔יו וּלְנָגִ֖יד מִמֶּ֑נּוּ וְהַבְּכֹרָ֖ה לְיוֹסֵֽף׃{ס}
For Yehuda prevailed over his brothers, and of him came the chief ruler; though the birthright was Yosef’s:)
for Judah was preeminent among his brothers [(in that respect)], and the prince [(for kingship, was to be)] from him, and the birthright [(for inheritance)] to revert to Joseph) —
בְּנֵ֥י רְאוּבֵ֖ן בְּכ֣וֹר יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל חֲנ֥וֹךְ וּפַלּ֖וּא חֶצְר֥וֹן וְכַרְמִֽי׃
the sons of Re᾽uven the firstborn of Yisra᾽el were, Ḥanokh, and Pallu, Ḥeżron, and Karmi.
the sons of Reuven, the bechor of Israel: Chanoch and Falu, Chetzron and Carmi.
בְּנֵ֖י יוֹאֵ֑ל שְׁמַֽעְיָ֥ה בְנ֛וֹ גּ֥וֹג בְּנ֖וֹ שִׁמְעִ֥י בְנֽוֹ׃
The sons of Yo᾽el; Shema῾ya his son, Gog his son, Shim῾i his son,
The sons of Yoel: Shemayah, his son; Gog, his [(Shemayah's)] son; Shim'i, his son.
מִיכָ֥ה בְנ֛וֹ רְאָיָ֥ה בְנ֖וֹ בַּ֥עַל בְּנֽוֹ׃
Mikha his son, Re᾽aya his son, Ba῾al his son,
Michan, his son; Reayah, his son; Ba'al, his son.
בְּאֵרָ֣ה בְנ֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הֶגְלָ֔ה תִּלְּגַ֥ת פִּלְנְאֶ֖סֶר מֶ֣לֶךְ אַשֻּׁ֑ר ה֥וּא נָשִׂ֖יא לָרֽאוּבֵנִֽי׃
Be᾽era his son, whom Tilgat-piln᾽eser king of Ashshur carried away into exile: he was prince of the Re᾽uveni.
Be'erah, his son, who, when Tiglath-Pilnesser exiled (them), was Prince of the Reuvenites.
וְאֶחָיו֙ לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֔יו בְּהִתְיַחֵ֖שׂ לְתֹלְדוֹתָ֑ם הָרֹ֥אשׁ יְעִיאֵ֖ל וּזְכַרְיָֽהוּ׃
And his brothers by their families, when the genealogy of their generations was reckoned, were the chief, Ye῾i᾽el, and Zekharyahu,
And his fellows, by their families, relative to their kin — the heads: Ye'iel, and Zecharyahu,
וּבֶ֙לַע֙ בֶּן־עָזָ֔ז בֶּן־שֶׁ֖מַע בֶּן־יוֹאֵ֑ל ה֚וּא יוֹשֵׁ֣ב בַּעֲרֹעֵ֔ר וְעַד־נְב֖וֹ וּבַ֥עַל מְעֽוֹן׃
and Bela the son of ῾Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Yo᾽el, who dwelt in ῾Aro῾er, as far as Nevo and Ba῾al-me῾on:
and Bela the son of Azaz the son of Shema the son of Yoel, who dwelt in Aroer, until Nevo and Ba'al-meon,
וְלַמִּזְרָ֗ח יָשַׁב֙ עַד־לְב֣וֹא מִדְבָּ֔רָה לְמִן־הַנָּהָ֖ר פְּרָ֑ת כִּ֧י מִקְנֵיהֶ֛ם רָב֖וּ בְּאֶ֥רֶץ גִּלְעָֽד׃
and eastward he inhabited as far as the entrance of the wilderness from the river Perat: because their cattle had multiplied in the land of Gil῾ad.
and who dwelt in the east until the approach to the desert from the Euphrates River, their herds having multiplied in the land of Gilead.
וּבִימֵ֣י שָׁא֗וּל עָשׂ֤וּ מִלְחָמָה֙ עִם־הַֽהַגְרִאִ֔ים וַֽיִּפְּל֖וּ בְּיָדָ֑ם וַיֵּֽשְׁבוּ֙ בְּאׇ֣הֳלֵיהֶ֔ם עַֽל־כׇּל־פְּנֵ֖י מִזְרָ֥ח לַגִּלְעָֽד׃{ס}
And in the days of Sha᾽ul they made war with the Hagri᾽im, who fell by their hand: and they dwelt in their tents throughout all the east land of Gil῾ad.
And in the days of Saul they made war with the Hagarites, who fell into their hands. And they dwelt in their [(the Hagarites')] tents on the entire eastern face of Gilead.
וּבְנֵי־גָ֣ד לְנֶגְדָּ֗ם יָ֥שְׁב֛וּ בְּאֶ֥רֶץ הַבָּשָׁ֖ן עַד־סַלְכָֽה׃
And the children of Gad dwelt opposite them, in the land of the Bashan as far as Salkha:
And the children of Gad dwelt opposite them in the land of the Bashan until Salchah.
יוֹאֵ֣ל הָרֹ֔אשׁ וְשָׁפָ֖ם הַמִּשְׁנֶ֑ה וְיַעְנַ֥י וְשָׁפָ֖ט בַּבָּשָֽׁן׃
Yo᾽el the chief, and Shafam the next, and Ya῾nay, and Shafat in the Bashan.
Yoel, the head, and Shapham, the second, and Yannai and Shafat in Bashan.
וַאֲחֵיהֶ֞ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֗ם מִיכָאֵ֡ל וּמְשֻׁלָּ֡ם וְ֠שֶׁ֠בַע וְיוֹרַ֧י וְיַעְכָּ֛ן וְזִ֥יעַ וָעֵ֖בֶר שִׁבְעָֽה׃{ס}
And their brethren of the house of their fathers were, Mikha᾽el, and Meshullam, and Sheva, and Yoray, and Ya῾kan, and Zia, and ῾Ever; seven.
And their fellows by the house of their fathers: Michael and Meshulam and Sheva and Yorai and Ya'akan and Yezia and Ever — seven.
אֵ֣לֶּה**׀** בְּנֵ֣י אֲבִיחַ֗יִל בֶּן־חוּרִ֡י בֶּן־יָ֠ר֠וֹחַ בֶּן־גִּלְעָ֧ד בֶּן־מִיכָאֵ֛ל בֶּן־יְשִׁישַׁ֥י בֶּן־יַחְדּ֖וֹ בֶּן־בּֽוּז׃
These are the children of Aviĥayil the son of Ḥuri, the son of Yaroaĥ, the son of Gil῾ad, the son of Mikha᾽el, the son of Yeshishay, the son of Yaĥdo, the son of Buz;
These are the sons of Avichayil, the son of Chori, the son of Yaroach, the son of Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Yeshishai, the son of Yachdo, the son of Buz.
אֲחִי֙ בֶּן־עַבְדִּיאֵ֣ל בֶּן־גּוּנִ֔י רֹ֖אשׁ לְבֵ֥ית אֲבוֹתָֽם׃
Aĥi the son of Avdi᾽el, the son of Guni, chief of the house of their fathers.
Achi the son of Avdiel the son of Guni was the head of the house of their fathers.
וַיֵּ֥שְׁב֛וּ בַּגִּלְעָ֥ד בַּבָּשָׁ֖ן וּבִבְנֹתֶ֑יהָ וּבְכׇֽל־מִגְרְשֵׁ֥י שָׁר֖וֹן עַל־תּוֹצְאוֹתָֽם׃
And they dwelt in Gil῾ad in the Bashan, and in its hamlets, and in all the pasture lands of Sharon, to their limits.
And they dwelt in Gilead, in Bashan and its villages, and in all the suburbs of Sharon until their outer limits.
כֻּלָּם֙ הִתְיַחְשׂ֔וּ בִּימֵ֖י יוֹתָ֣ם מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָ֑ה וּבִימֵ֖י יָרׇבְעָ֥ם מֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃{פ}
All these were reckoned by genealogies in the days of Yotam king of Yehuda, and in the days of Yarov῾am king of Yisra᾽el.
All adduced their genealogies in the days of Yotham, king of Judah, and in the days of Yeravam, king of Israel.
בְּנֵי־רְאוּבֵ֨ן וְגָדִ֜י וַחֲצִ֥י שֵֽׁבֶט־מְנַשֶּׁה֮ מִן־בְּנֵי־חַ֒יִל֒ אֲ֠נָשִׁ֠ים נֹשְׂאֵ֨י מָגֵ֤ן וְחֶ֙רֶב֙ וְדֹ֣רְכֵי קֶ֔שֶׁת וּלְמוּדֵ֖י מִלְחָמָ֑ה אַרְבָּעִ֨ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֥ה אֶ֛לֶף וּשְׁבַע־מֵא֥וֹת וְשִׁשִּׁ֖ים יֹצְאֵ֥י צָבָֽא׃
The sons of Re᾽uven, and the Gadi, and half the tribe of Menashshe, of men at arms, able to bear shield and sword, and to draw the bow, and skilful in war, were forty four thousand seven hundred and sixty, who went out to war.
The sons of Reuven, and the Gadites, and half the tribe of Menasheh. Sons of valor, bearers of shield and sword and taught for war. Forty-four thousand and seven hundred and sixty going out for war.
וַיַּעֲשׂ֥וּ מִלְחָמָ֖ה עִם־הַהַגְרִיאִ֑ים וִיט֥וּר וְנָפִ֖ישׁ וְנוֹדָֽב׃
And they made war with the Hagri᾽im, with Yetur, and Nafish, and Nodav.
And they made war with the Hagarites and with Yetur and Nafish and Nodav.
וַיֵּעָזְר֣וּ עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם וַיִּנָּתְנ֤וּ בְיָדָם֙ הַֽהַגְרִיאִ֔ים וְכֹ֖ל שֶׁ֣עִמָּהֶ֑ם כִּ֠י לֵאלֹהִ֤ים זָעֲקוּ֙ בַּמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וְנַעְתּ֥וֹר לָהֶ֖ם כִּי־בָ֥טְחוּ בֽוֹ׃
And they were helped against them, and the Hagri᾽im were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he granted their entreaty: because they put their trust in him.
And they were helped [(by G-d)] against them, and they were delivered into their hands — the Hagarites and all who were with them. For they cried out unto G-d in the war. And He was importuned of them, for they trusted in Him.
וַיִּשְׁבּ֣וּ מִקְנֵיהֶ֗ם גְּֽמַלֵּיהֶ֞ם חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים אֶ֙לֶף֙ וְצֹ֗אן מָאתַ֤יִם וַחֲמִשִּׁים֙ אֶ֔לֶף וַחֲמוֹרִ֖ים אַלְפָּ֑יִם וְנֶ֥פֶשׁ אָדָ֖ם מֵ֥אָה אָֽלֶף׃
And they took away their cattle; of their camels fifty thousand, and of sheep two hundred and fifty thousand, and of asses two thousand, and of men a hundred thousand.
And they captured their herds: their camels — fifty thousand; their sheep — two hundred and fifty thousand; and human souls — one hundred thousand.
כִּֽי־חֲלָלִ֤ים רַבִּים֙ נָפָ֔לוּ כִּ֥י מֵהָאֱלֹהִ֖ים הַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה וַיֵּשְׁב֥וּ תַחְתֵּיהֶ֖ם עַד־הַגֹּלָֽה׃{פ}
For there fell down many slain, because the war was from God. And they dwelt in their stead until the exile.
For many fell slain, for the battle was from G-d. And they dwelt in their places until the exile.
וּבְנֵ֗י חֲצִי֙ שֵׁ֣בֶט מְנַשֶּׁ֔ה יָשְׁב֖וּ בָּאָ֑רֶץ מִבָּשָׁ֞ן עַד־בַּ֧עַל חֶרְמ֛וֹן וּשְׂנִ֥יר וְהַר־חֶרְמ֖וֹן הֵ֥מָּה רָבֽוּ׃
And the children of the half tribe of Menashshe dwelt in the land: they increased from Bashan to Ba῾al-ĥermon and Senir, and to mount Ḥermon.
And half the tribe of Menasheh dwelt in the land, from Bashan until Ba'al-chermon and S'nir and Mount Hermon, in their multitude.
וְאֵ֖לֶּה רָאשֵׁ֣י בֵית־אֲבוֹתָ֑ם וְעֵ֡פֶר וְיִשְׁעִ֡י וֶאֱלִיאֵ֡ל וְ֠עַזְרִיאֵ֠ל וְיִרְמְיָ֨ה וְהוֹדַוְיָ֜ה וְיַחְדִּיאֵ֗ל אֲנָשִׁים֙ גִּבּ֣וֹרֵי חַ֔יִל אַנְשֵׁ֣י שֵׁמ֔וֹת רָאשִׁ֖ים לְבֵ֥ית אֲבוֹתָֽם׃
And these were the heads of the houses of their fathers, ῾Efer, and Yish῾i, and Eli᾽el, and ῾Azri᾽el, and Yirmeya, and Hodavya, and Yaĥdi᾽el, mighty men of valour, famous men, and heads of the houses of their fathers.
And these are the heads of their houses: Epher and Yish'i and Eliel and Azriel and Yirmiyah and Hodavyah and Yachdiel, men of valor, men of [great] name, heads of the house of their fathers.
וַיִּֽמְעֲל֔וּ בֵּאלֹהֵ֖י אֲבֹתֵיהֶ֑ם וַיִּזְנ֗וּ אַֽחֲרֵי֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י עַמֵּֽי־הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־הִשְׁמִ֥יד אֱלֹהִ֖ים מִפְּנֵיהֶֽם׃
And they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went astray after the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God destroyed before them.
But they were faithless to the G-d of their fathers, and they strayed after the gods of the people of the land that G-d had destroyed before them.
וַיָּ֩עַר֩ אֱלֹהֵ֨י יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל אֶת־ר֣וּחַ**׀** פּ֣וּל מֶלֶךְ־אַשּׁ֗וּר וְאֶת־ר֙וּחַ֙ תִּלְּגַ֤ת פִּלְנֶ֙סֶר֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֔וּר וַיַּגְלֵם֙ לָראוּבֵנִ֣י וְלַגָּדִ֔י וְלַחֲצִ֖י שֵׁ֣בֶט מְנַשֶּׁ֑ה וַ֠יְבִיאֵ֠ם לַחְלַ֨ח וְחָב֤וֹר וְהָרָא֙ וּנְהַ֣ר גּוֹזָ֔ן עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃{פ}
And the God of Yisra᾽el stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Ashshur, and the spirit of Tilgat-piln᾽eser king of Ashshur, and he carried them away, namely the Re᾽uveni, and the Gadi, and the half tribe of Menashshe, and brought them to Ḥalaĥ, and Ḥavor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, to this day.
And the G-d of Israel roused the spirit of Pul the king of Ashur and the spirit of Tiglath-Pilnesser the king of Ashur, and they exiled the Reuvenites and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Menasheh, and He brought them to Chalach and Chavor and Hara and the river Gozan until this day.
בְּנֵ֖י לֵוִ֑י גֵּרְשׁ֕וֹן קְהָ֖ת וּמְרָרִֽי׃
The sons of Levi; Gershon, Qehat, and Merari.
The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kehoth and Merari.
וּבְנֵ֖י קְהָ֑ת עַמְרָ֣ם יִצְהָ֔ר וְחֶבְר֖וֹן וְעֻזִּיאֵֽל׃{ס}
And the sons of Qehat; ῾Amram, Yiżhar, and Ḥevron, and ῾Uzzi᾽el.
And the sons of Kehath: Amram, Yitzhar, Chevron and Uziel.
וּבְנֵ֣י עַמְרָ֔ם אַהֲרֹ֥ן וּמֹשֶׁ֖ה וּמִרְיָ֑ם{ס}וּבְנֵ֣י אַֽהֲרֹ֔ן נָדָב֙ וַאֲבִיה֔וּא אֶלְעָזָ֖ר וְאִיתָמָֽר׃
And the children of ῾Amram: Aharon, and Moshe, and Miryam. And the sons of Aharon; Nadav, and Avihu, El῾azar, and Itamar.
And the children of Amram: Aaron, Moses, and Miriam. And the sons of Aaron: Nadav, Avihu, Elazar and Ithamar.
אֶלְעָזָר֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־פִּֽינְחָ֔ס פִּֽינְחָ֖ס הֹלִ֥יד אֶת־אֲבִישֽׁוּעַ׃
El῾azar begot Pineĥas, Pineĥas begot Avishua,
Elazar begot Pinchas; Pinchas begot Avishua.
וַאֲבִישׁ֙וּעַ֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־בֻּקִּ֔י וּבֻקִּ֖י הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־עֻזִּֽי׃
and Avishua begot Buqqi, and Buqqi begot ῾Uzzi,
And Avishua begot Bukki, and Bukki begot Uzzi.
וְעֻזִּי֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־זְרַֽחְיָ֔ה וּֽזְרַֽחְיָ֖ה הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־מְרָיֽוֹת׃
and ῾Uzzi begot Zeraĥya, and Zeraĥya begot Merayot;
And Uzzi begot Zerachyah, and Zerachyah begot Merayoth.
מְרָיוֹת֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־אֲמַרְיָ֔ה וַאֲמַרְיָ֖ה הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־אֲחִיטֽוּב׃
Merayot begot Amarya, and Amarya begot Aĥituv,
Merayoth begot Amaryah, and Amaryah begot Achituv.
וַֽאֲחִיטוּב֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־צָד֔וֹק וְצָד֖וֹק הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־אֲחִימָֽעַץ׃
and Aĥituv begot Żadoq, and Żadoq begot Aĥima῾aż,
And Achituv begot Tzaddok and Tzaddok begot Achima'atz.
וַאֲחִימַ֙עַץ֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־עֲזַרְיָ֔ה וַעֲזַרְיָ֖ה הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־יוֹחָנָֽן׃
and Aĥima῾aż begot ῾Azarya, and ῾Azarya begot Yoĥanan,
And Achima'atz begot Azaryah, and Azaryah begot Yochanan.
וְיוֹחָנָ֖ן הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־עֲזַרְיָ֑ה ה֚וּא אֲשֶׁ֣ר כִּהֵ֔ן בַּבַּ֕יִת אֲשֶׁר־בָּנָ֥ה שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה בִּירוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃
and Yoĥanan begot ῾Azarya, (he it is who executed the priest’s office in the temple that Shelomo built in Yerushalayim:)
And Yochanan begot Azaryah. It was he who officiated in the Temple that Solomon built in Jerusalem.
וַיּ֥וֹלֶד עֲזַרְיָ֖ה אֶת־אֲמַרְיָ֑ה וַאֲמַרְיָ֖ה הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־אֲחִיטֽוּב׃
and ῾Azarya begot Amarya, and Amarya begot Aĥituv,
And Azaryah begot Amaryah, and Amaryah begot Achituv.
וַֽאֲחִיטוּב֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־צָד֔וֹק וְצָד֖וֹק הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־שַׁלּֽוּם׃
and Aĥituv begot Żadoq, and Żadoq begot Shallum,
And Achituz begot Tzaddok, and Tzaddok begot Shalum.
וְשַׁלּוּם֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־חִלְקִיָּ֔ה וְחִלְקִיָּ֖ה הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־עֲזַרְיָֽה׃
and Shallum begot Ḥilqiyya, and Ḥilqiyya begot ῾Azarya,
And Shalum begot Chilkiyah, and Chilkiyah begot Azaryah.
וַעֲזַרְיָה֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־שְׂרָיָ֔ה וּשְׂרָיָ֖ה הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־יְהוֹצָדָֽק׃
and ῾Azarya begot Seraya, and Seraya begot Yehożadaq,
And Azaryah begot Serayah, and Serayah begot Yehotzadak.
וִיהוֹצָדָ֣ק הָלַ֔ךְ בְּהַגְל֣וֹת יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶת־יְהוּדָ֖ה וִירֽוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם בְּיַ֖ד נְבֻכַדְנֶאצַּֽר׃{פ}
and Yehożadaq went into exile, when the Lord carried away Yehuda and Yerushalayim by the hand of Nevukhadneżżar.
And Yehotzadak went [in exile to Bavel] when the L-rd exiled Judah and Jerusalem by the hand of Nevuchadnezzar.
