Elisha spoke to the woman whose son he had revived, saying, “Get up and go, you and your household, and live wherever you want to live, for Adonoy has proclaimed a famine and it is coming upon the land for seven years.”

The woman got up and did according to the word of the man of God. She and her household went and lived in the land of the Pelishtim for seven years.

At the end of seven years the woman returned from the land of Pelishtim, and she went out to cry to the king about her house and her field.

וְהַמֶּ֗לֶךְ מְדַבֵּר֙ אֶל־גֵּ֣חֲזִ֔י נַ֥עַר אִישׁ־הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים לֵאמֹ֑ר סַפְּרָה־נָּ֣א לִ֔י אֵ֥ת כׇּל־הַגְּדֹל֖וֹת אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֥ה אֱלִישָֽׁע׃{ס}

The king was speaking to Geichazi, the [former] servant of the man of God, saying, “Please tell me about all the great deeds that Elisha performed.”

Just as he was telling the king how he [Elisha] revived the dead, behold there was the woman whose son he had revived, crying out to the king about her house and her field. Geichazi said, “My master, the king, this is the woman and this is her son whom Elisha revived.”

וַיִּשְׁאַ֥ל הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ לָאִשָּׁ֖ה וַתְּסַפֶּר־ל֑וֹ וַיִּתֶּן־לָ֣הּ הַמֶּ֩לֶךְ֩ סָרִ֨יס אֶחָ֜ד לֵאמֹ֗ר הָשֵׁ֤יב אֶת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר־לָהּ֙ וְאֵת֙ כׇּל־תְּבוּאֹ֣ת הַשָּׂדֶ֔ה מִיּ֛וֹם עׇזְבָ֥הֿ אֶת־הָאָ֖רֶץ וְעַד־עָֽתָּה׃{פ}

The king asked the woman, and she told him; the king then appointed for her, a certain officer, saying, “Return all that belongs to her, and [the value of] all the produce of the field from the day she left the land until now.”

The Metsudah Tanach series, Lakewood, N.J

Elisha came to Damesek and Ben-Hadad, king of Arom, was sick. It was told to him, saying, “The man of God has come here.”

The Metsudah Tanach series, Lakewood, N.J

The king said to Chazoeil, “Take a gift in your hand, and go greet the man of God. Ask of Adonoy through him, saying, ‘Will I recover from this sickness?’”

The Metsudah Tanach series, Lakewood, N.J

Chazoeil went to [greet] him and took a gift in his hand, and all the best of Damesek, forty camel loads. He came and stood before him, and said, “Your son, Ben-Hadad king of Arom, sent me to you, saying, ‘Will I recover from this sickness?’”

The Metsudah Tanach series, Lakewood, N.J

And Elisha said to him, “Go say to him, ‘You will surely live,’ but Adonoy has informed me that he will surely die.”

The Metsudah Tanach series, Lakewood, N.J

He [Elisha] kept his face emotionless and held it so for a long time, and then the man of God wept.

The Metsudah Tanach series, Lakewood, N.J

Chazoeil said, “Why is my master weeping?” He said, “Because I know that you will do evil to the Bnei Yisroel; their strongholds you will set on fire, their youths you will kill with the sword, their infants you will dash to pieces, and their pregnant women you will split open.”

The Metsudah Tanach series, Lakewood, N.J

And Chazoeil said, “What is your servant but a [mere] dog that he can do this terrible thing?” And Elisha said, “Adonoy has revealed to me that you are to be the king of Arom.”

The Metsudah Tanach series, Lakewood, N.J

He left Elisha and came to his master, and he said to him, “What did Elisha tell you?” He said, “He said to me, ‘You will surely live.’”

וַיְהִ֣י מִֽמׇּחֳרָ֗ת וַיִּקַּ֤ח הַמַּכְבֵּר֙ וַיִּטְבֹּ֣ל בַּמַּ֔יִם וַיִּפְרֹ֥שׂ עַל־פָּנָ֖יו וַיָּמֹ֑ת וַיִּמְלֹ֥ךְ חֲזָהאֵ֖ל תַּחְתָּֽיו׃{פ}

The next day he [Chazoeil] took a blanket and dipped it in water; he spread it over his [Ben-Hadad’s] face and he died. Chazoeil became king in his place.

He followed in the way of the kings of Yisroel, as the house of Achov had done, for Achov’s daughter became his wife. He did what was evil in the eyes of Adonoy.
