All the tribes of Yisroel came to Chevron, to Dovid and they said, "We are your bone and your flesh."

Both yesterday and the day before yesterday while Shaul was king over us you were the one who took out and brought back Yisroel, and Adonoy said to you, 'You will lead my people Yisroel and you will be a prince over Yisroel.

All the elders of Yisroel came to Chevron to the king and King Dovid enacted a pact with them in Chevron before Adonoy and they anointed Dovid to be king over Yisroel.

Dovid was a man of thirty years when he [first] reigned. He was king for forty years.

In Chevron, he reigned over Yehudah for seven years and six months and in Yerushaloyim he reigned for thirty-three years over all of Yisroel and Yehuda.

The king and his men went to Yerusholoyim to the Yevusim who dwelled in that land. He said to Dovid, You shall not come lest you [are able to] remove [the idols depicting] the blind and the lame which are saying, 'Dovid will not come here.'

Dovid conquored the fortress of Tzion This is [now] the city of Dovid.

Dovid said on that day, "Whoever kills the Yevusi and touches [and destroys] the tower's spire and [the idols of] the lame and the blind, which were abhored by Dovid, upon which they are saying, '[While] the blind one and the lame one [are here], [Dovid] will not come into the house.'"

Dovid settled in the fortress, and he called it the city of Dovid. Dovid built around [the fortress], from it's low wall and inwards.

Dovid became continuously greater, and Adonoy, the God of Legions was with him.

Chirom, the king of Tzor sent messengers to Dovid [bringing with them] cedarwood and carpenters and stone cutters [who could build] a wall. They built a house for Dovid.

Dovid understood that Adonoy had established him king over Yisroel and that his kingdom had been elevated for the sake of His people Yisroel.

Dovid took more concubines and wives from Yerusholoyim after he arrived from Chevron. More sons and daughters were born to Dovid.

These are the names of the [children] born to him in Yerusholoyim, Shaua, Shovov, Noson and Shlomo.

Yivchor, Elishua, Nepheg and Yophia.

Elishoma, Elyodo and Elipholet.

The Pelishtim heard that they had anointed Dovid to be king over Yisroel. All the Pelishtim went up seeking [to fight] Dovid. Dovid heard [about this] and descended to the fortress.

The Pelishtim came and fanned out acros the valley of Rephaim.

Dovid asked of Adonoy, saying, "Should I go up [to fight] the Pelishtim? Will they be delivered into my hands?" Adonoy said to Dovid, "Go up, because I will deliver the Pelishtim into your hands."

Dovid came into the plain of Perotzim. Dovid smote them there and declared, "Adonoy has shatterred my enemies before me like water bursting over [walls]" Because of this, he called the name of that place the plain of Perotzim

[The Pelishtim] abandoned their idols there and Dovid and his men burnt them.

The Pelishtim continued to go up and fan out across the valley of Repahim.

Dovid asked Adonoy [what to do] and He answered, "Do not go up, circle around to their rear and come at them from opposite the trees."

"When you hear the sound of stepping on the tops of the trees then shout out [war whoops] because then Adonoy has gone out before you to smite the Plishtim camp.

Dovid did as Adonoy commanded him and he smote the Plishtim from Gevah until you come to Gozer.
