ואמרת. התי"ו לנוכח ישראל, הם השבים אל ארצם:

And thou shalt say. The second person refers to the Israelites, who returned home.

כי אנפת בי. אע"פי שאנפת בי, כמו רפאה נפשי כי חטאתי לך (תהלים מ"א ה'):

כי Though. Comp. כי חטאתי לך רפאה נפשי Heal my soul, although I have sinned against thee (Ps. 41:5)

הנה וגו'. שאחר שעמי אל ישועתי אבטח אשכון בטח:

הנה אל ישועתי The God of my salvation is with me,¹ and therefore אבטח I will dwell in safety.²

The explanation of יה, the half of the name of God, will be found in the Book of Psalms,³ and of זמרת in the Pentateuch (Exod. 15:2)

footnotes: ³ In his Commentary on Ps. 118:17, I. E. explains וזמרת, but not the meaning of יה. He intended perhaps to do it on Ps. 68:5, to which verse he refers also in his commentary on Isaiah 26:4. It is, however, explained, Ex. 3:15, and Sefer Hashem, 100:8.

ושאבתם מים. משל שיתענגו כצמא בשואבו מים:

And you will draw water. By this figure the prophet indicates that they will rejoice exceedingly, as the thirsty rejoices when he draws water.

זמרו Sing. Comp. זמרת the best fruit (Gen. 43:11). Lit. Give the best and choicest thing.

כי גאות. לשון נקבה והתי"ו לעדה:

גאות Excellent thing. Feminine, as seen by the affix ⁴.ת
