Concerning the children of ῾Ammon, thus says the Lord; Has Yisra᾽el no sons? has he no heir? why then does Malkam inherit Gad, and his people dwell in his cities?
Therefore, behold, days are coming, says the Lord, when I will cause an alarm of war to be heard in Rabba of the children of ῾Ammon; and it shall become a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Yisra᾽el dispossess those who dispossessed him, says the Lord.
Howl, O Ḥeshbon, for ῾Ay is plundered: cry, O daughters of Rabba, gird yourselves with sackcloth; lament, and run to and fro by the hedges; for Malkam shall go into exile, and his priests and his princes together.
Why dost thou glory in the valleys? thy valley flows with blood, O backsliding daughter, that trusts in her treasures, saying, Who shall come against me?
Behold, I will bring terror upon thee, says the Lord God of hosts, from all those who are round about thee; and you shall be driven out every man straight before him; and there shall be none to take in the wanderer.
וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵ֗ן אָשִׁ֛יב אֶת־שְׁב֥וּת בְּנֵֽי־עַמּ֖וֹן נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה׃{פ}
And afterwards I will bring back the captivity of the children of ῾Ammon, says the Lord.
Concerning Edom, thus says the Lord of hosts; Is wisdom no more in Teman? has counsel perished from the prudent? has their wisdom vanished?
Flee, turn back, dwell in the deeps, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of ῾Esav upon him, the time when I punish him.
If grape gatherers come to thee, would they not leave some gleanings? if thieves by night, they will destroy only till they have enough.
But I have stripped ῾Esav bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is plundered, and his brethren, and his neighbours, and he himself is no more.
עׇזְבָ֥ה יְתֹמֶ֖יךָ אֲנִ֣י אֲחַיֶּ֑ה וְאַלְמְנוֹתֶ֖יךָ עָלַ֥י תִּבְטָֽחוּ׃{ס}
Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let thy widows trust in me.
For thus says the Lord; Behold, they to whom it did not appertain to drink of the cup shall surely drink; and art thou one who shall go scot free? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink.
For I have sworn by myself, says the Lord, that Bożra shall become a desolation, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all its cities shall be perpetual ruins.
I have heard a rumour from the Lord, and an ambassador is sent to the heathen, saying, Gather yourselves together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.
For, lo, I have made thee small among the nations, despised among men.
Thy terribleness has deceived thee, and the pride of thy heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldst make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from there, says the Lord.
Also Edom shall be a desolation: everyone that goes by it shall be horrified, and shall hiss at all her disasters.
As in the overthrow of Sedom and ῾Amora and its neighbour cities, says the Lord, no man shall abide there, neither shall a son of man dwell in it.
הִ֠נֵּ֠ה כְּאַרְיֵ֞ה יַעֲלֶ֨ה מִגְּא֣וֹן הַיַּרְדֵּן֮ אֶל־נְוֵ֣ה אֵיתָן֒ כִּֽי־אַרְגִּ֤יעָה אֲרִיצֶ֙נּוּ֙ מֵעָלֶ֔יהָ וּמִ֥י בָח֖וּר אֵלֶ֣יהָ אֶפְקֹ֑ד כִּ֣י מִ֤י כָמ֙וֹנִי֙ וּמִ֣י יֹעִידֶ֔נִּי וּמִי־זֶ֣ה רֹעֶ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר יַעֲמֹ֖ד לְפָנָֽי׃{ס}
Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the wild country of the Yarden against a strong sheepfold: for in a moment I will make him run over her: and whoever is chosen, I will appoint him over her; for who is like me? and who will set me a time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me?
Therefore hear the counsel of the Lord, that he has taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely the least of the flock shall drag them away: surely their fold shall be appalled at them.
The earth is moved at the noise of their fall; the sound of her cry is heard at the Sea of Suf.
הִנֵּ֤ה כַנֶּ֙שֶׁר֙ יַעֲלֶ֣ה וְיִדְאֶ֔ה וְיִפְרֹ֥שׂ כְּנָפָ֖יו עַל־בׇּצְרָ֑ה וְֽ֠הָיָ֠ה לֵ֞ב גִּבּוֹרֵ֤י אֱדוֹם֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא כְּלֵ֖ב אִשָּׁ֥ה מְצֵרָֽה׃{פ}
Behold, he shall come up and fly like the eagle, and spread his wings over Bożra: and at that day shall the heart of the mighty men of Edom be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
Concerning Dammeseq. Ḥamat is confounded, and Arpad: for they have heard evil tidings: they are fainthearted; there is anxiety on the sea; it cannot be quiet.
Dammeseq is grown feeble, and turns herself to flee, and fear has gripped her: anguish and sorrows have seized on her, like a woman in travail.
How was the city of praise left without succour, the city of my joy!
Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be cut off in that day, says the Lord of hosts.
וְהִצַּ֥תִּי אֵ֖שׁ בְּחוֹמַ֣ת דַּמָּ֑שֶׂק וְאָכְלָ֖ה אַרְמְנ֥וֹת בֶּן־הֲדָֽד׃{פ}
And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Dammeseq, and it shall consume the palaces of Ben-hadad.
Concerning Qedar, and concerning the kingdoms of Ḥażor, which Nevukhadreżżar king of Bavel shall smite, thus says the Lord; Arise, go up to Qedar, and plunder the men of the east.
Their tents and their flocks shall be taken away: they shall take to themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels; and they shall cry to them, Terror on every side!
Flee, get you far off, dwell in the deeps, O inhabitants of Ḥażor, says the Lord; for Nevukhadreżżar king of Bavel has taken counsel against you, and has conceived a purpose against you.
Arise, get you up to a nation at ease, that dwells in security, says the Lord, who have neither gates nor bars, dwelling alone.
And their camels shall be a booty, and the multitude of their cattle a spoil: and I will scatter to every wind those who have the corners of their hair cut off; and I will bring their calamity from every side says the Lord.
וְהָיְתָ֨ה חָצ֜וֹר לִמְע֥וֹן תַּנִּ֛ים שְׁמָמָ֖ה עַד־עוֹלָ֑ם לֹא־יֵשֵׁ֥ב שָׁם֙ אִ֔ישׁ וְלֹא־יָג֥וּר בָּ֖הּ בֶּן־אָדָֽם׃{ס}
And Ḥażor shall be a den of jackals, and a desolation for ever: there shall no man abide there, nor any son of man dwell in it.
The word of the Lord that came to Yirmeyahu the prophet against ῾Elam in the beginning of the reign of Żidqiyyahu king of Yehuda, saying,
Thus says the Lord of hosts; Behold, I will break the bow of ῾Elam, the chief of their might.
And upon ῾Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them to all those winds; and there shall be no nation to which the outcasts of ῾Elam shall not come.
For I will cause ῾Elam to lose heart before their enemies, and before them that seek their life: and I will bring evil upon them, my fierce anger, says the Lord; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them:
and I will set my throne in ῾Elam, and will destroy from there the king and the princes, says the Lord.
וְהָיָ֣ה**׀** בְּאַחֲרִ֣ית הַיָּמִ֗ים (אשוב) [אָשִׁ֛יב] אֶת־[שְׁב֥וּת] (שבית) עֵילָ֖ם נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה׃{פ}
But it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring back the captivity of ῾Elam, says the Lord.
