בְּלֵיל זֶה יִבְכָּיוּן וְיֵילִילוּ בָּנַי.
On this night my children weep and wail.
בְּלֵיל זֶה חָרַב בֵּית קָדְשִׁי וְנִשְׂרְפוּ אַרְמוֹנַי.
On this night my House was destroyed and my palace burnt.
וְכָל בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל יֶהְגּוּ בִיגוֹנַי.
And all the house of Israel utters dirges
וְיִבְכּוּ אֶת הַשְּׂרֵפָה אֲשֶׁר שָׂרַף יְיָ:
and laments for the fires the LORD kindled.
בְּלֵיל זֶה תְּיַלֵּל מַר עֲנִיָּה נֶחְדֶּלֶת.
On this night, wail bitterly you wretch who has lost it all,
וּמִבֵּית אָבִיהָ בַּחַיִּים מֻבְדֶּלֶת.
who is separated from her Father’s house
וְיָצְאָה מִבֵּיתוֹ וְנִסְגַּר הַדֶּלֶת.
She has left His house and shut the door.
וְהָלְכָה בַּשִּׁבְיָה בְּכָל פֶּה נֶאֱכֶלֶת.
She has gone into captivity to be devoured by every mouth.
בְּיוֹם שֻׁלְּחָה בְּאֵשׁ בּוֹעֶרֶת וְאוֹכֶלֶת.
On that day cast into the fire to be consumed by the flames,
וְאֵשׁ עִם גַּחֶלֶת. יָצְאָה מֵאֵת יְיָ. בליל זה:
The burning embers lit by the LORD, On this night my children weep and wail.
בְּלֵיל זֶה הַגַּלְגַּל סִבֵּב הַחוֹבָה.
On this night the wheel of fortune spun to doom,
רִאשׁוֹן גַּם שֵׁנִי בֵּיתִי נֶחְרְבָה.
My first and second Homes destroyed.
וְעוֹד לֹא רֻחָמָה בַּת הַשּׁוֹבָבָה.
She shall no more be pitied (Lo-ruhamah [Hosea1:6]), this rebellious woman
הֻשְׁקְתָה מֵי רוֹשׁ וְאֶת בִּטְנָהּ צָבָה.
drunk from poisonous waters swelling her belly.
וְשֻׁלְּחָה מִבֵּיתוֹ וְגַם נָשְׁתָה טוֹבָה.
Cast out of her home, also forgetting happiness. ...
גְּדוֹלָה הַשִּׂנְאָה מֵאֵת אֲשֶׁר אֲהֵבָהּ.
Hate conquering that of love.
וּכְאַלְמְנוּת חַיּוּת כְּאִשָּׁה נֶעֱזָבָה. וַתֹּאמֶר צִיּוֹן עֲזָבַנִי יְיָ. בליל זה:
She is a living widow, an abandoned woman, And Zion said “The LORD has forsaken me”. On this night my children weep and wail.
בְּלֵיל זֶה קָדַרְתִּי וְחָשְׁכוּ הַמְּאוֹרוֹת.
On this night I am gloomy, the light has dimmed.
לְחֻרְבַּן בֵּית קָדְשִׁי וּבִטּוּל מִשְׁמָרוֹת.
My holy house is destroyed and the priestly watch discontinued.
בְּלֵיל זֶה סַבּוּנִי אֲפָפוּנִי צָרוֹת.
On this night woe covers and encircles me.
וְגַם קָרָא מוֹעֵד בְּדִין חָמֵשׁ גְּזֵרוֹת.
Also He declared at this time five harsh judgements.
בְּכִי חִנָּם בָּכוּ וְנִקְבַּע לְדוֹרוֹת. יַעַן כִּי הָיְתָה סִבָּה מֵאֵת יְיָ. בליל זה:
Tears shed in vain are established for all generations. For it was brought about by the LORD. On this night my children weep and wail.
בְּלֵיל זֶה אֵרְעוּ בוֹ חָמֵשׁ מְאוֹרָעוֹת.
On this night five awful tragedies occurred.
גָּזַר עַל אָבוֹת בִּפְרֹעַ פְּרָעוֹת.
A decree against our ancestors denying them entry into the Holy Land.
וְדָבְקוּ בוֹ צָרוֹת מְצֵרוֹת וְגַם רָעוֹת.
Afflicting them with everlasting sorrow and evilness.
יוֹם מוּכָן הָיָה בִּפְגֹּעַ פְּגָעוֹת.
A day destined for everlasting afflictions.
וְהֶעֱמִיד הָאוֹיֵב וְהֵרִים קוֹל זְוָעוֹת. קוּם כִּי זֶה הַיּוֹם אֲשֶׁר אָמַר יְיָ בליל זה:
The enemies stood and called with a terribly strong voice “Arise, for today is that foretold by the LORD”. On this night my children weep and wail.
