פִּדְיוֹן א. עִקַּר רְפוּאַת הַחוֹלֶה הוּא רַק עַל־יְדֵי פִּדְיוֹן. וְלֹא נָתְנָה הַתּוֹרָה רְשׁוּת לָרוֹפֵא לְרַפְּאוֹת כִּי אִם אַחַר הַפִּדְיוֹן דַּיְקָא (עַיֵּן רְפוּאָה אוֹת ח'): (לק"ת סי' ג')
REDEMPTION When a person is sick, a redemption is the prerequisite of any cure. Only after the redemption has been made does the Torah give the doctor permission to cure (Likutey Moharan II, 3).
ב. הַמְמַלֵּא גְּרוֹנָם שֶׁל תַּלְמִידֵי חֲכָמִים יַיִן, נֶחֱשָׁב כְּמוֹ פִּדְיוֹן: (לק"א סי' מ"א)
When a person fills the mouths of the Sages with wine, it is accounted to him like a redemption (I, 41).
ג. קִימַת חֲצוֹת לַיְלָה מְסֻגָּל כְּמוֹ פִּדְיוֹן: (לק"א סי' קמ"ט)
Rising for the midnight prayer has the same power as a redemption (149).
ד. רָאוּי לְהַרְגִּיל אֶת עַצְמוֹ לִתֵּן בְּכָל פַּעַם עַל פִּדְיוֹן, כְּדֵי לְהַמְתִּיק הַדִּינִים מֵעָלָיו בְּכָל פַּעַם. וַאֲפִלּוּ כְּשֶׁאֵין לוֹ שׁוּם חוֹלֶה וְשׁוּם צַעַר בְּתוֹךְ בֵּיתוֹ, טוֹב לַעֲשׂוֹת פִּדְיוֹנוֹת בְּכָל פַּעַם, כְּדֵי שֶׁלֹּא יָבוֹא לִידֵי צַעַר וְחוֹלַאַת חַ"ו. וְכֵן נוֹהֲגִים כַּמָּה כְּשֵׁרִים בִּמְדִינוֹת קִירָ"ה (הַקֵּיסָר יָרוּם הוֹדוֹ) דֶוִוין שֶׁנּוֹתְנִים עַל פִּדְיוֹנוֹת תָּמִיד. וְעַיֵּן מֵעִנְיַן פִּדְיוֹן בְּסִימָן מ"א וּבְסִימָן ק"פ, וּבְסִימָן רט"ו מֵעִנְיַן כ"ד מִינִים פִּדְיוֹנוֹת: (חיי מוהר"ן סימן תקל"ט)
It is a good practice always to give money for a redemption. This is the way to sweeten the power of harsh judgements at all times and be saved from them. Even when nobody in the house is sick and you have no particular problems, it is still good to present for a redemption in order to prevent any problems or sickness, God forbid (Chayey Moharan, Avodat Hashem 92).
