עוֹד אָמַר לְעִנְיַן הִתְחַזְּקוּת בְּהִתְבּוֹדְדוּת וּתְחִנּוֹת וּבַקָּשׁוֹת,
Additionally, on the topic of strengthening one’s hitbodedut practice and reciting supplications and entreaties Rebbe Nachman said:
כִּי הַדִּבּוּר יֵשׁ לוֹ כֹּחַ גָּדוֹל לְעוֹרֵר אֶת הָאָדָם, אַף־עַל־פִּי שֶׁנִּדְמֶה לְהָאָדָם שֶׁאֵין לוֹ לֵב, אַף־עַל־פִּי־כֵן כְּשֶׁיְּדַבֵּר הַרְבֵּה דִּבְרֵי הִתְעוֹרְרוּת וּתְחִנּוֹת וּבַקָּשׁוֹת וְכַיּוֹצֵא, זֶהוּ בְּעַצְמוֹ שֶׁמְּדַבֵּר הוּא בְּחִינַת הִתְגַּלּוּת הִתְעוֹרְרוּת לִבּוֹ וְנַפְשׁוֹ לְהַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ, בִּבְחִינַת (שיר השירים ה׳:ו׳): נַפְשִׁי יָצְאָה בְדַבְּרוֹ, שֶׁהַדִּבּוּר בְּעַצְמוֹ הוּא הִתְגַּלּוּת הַנֶּפֶשׁ וְהַלֵּב.
The act of speaking is very effective for spiritually rousing a person. Even if it seems to him that he has no feelings, when he speaks many inspirational words, supplications, entreaties, and the like—the very act of speaking is the concept of revealing and rousing his heart and soul for God. This is as in (Song of Songs 5:6), “My soul came forth when he spoke”—the speaking is itself a revelation of the soul and the heart.
וְלִפְעָמִים עַל־יְדֵי שֶׁיְּדַבֵּר הַרְבֵּה, אַף־עַל־פִּי שֶׁיִּהְיֶה בְּלֹא לֵב כְּלָל, אַף־עַל־פִּי־כֵן יָבוֹא אַחַר־כָּךְ עַל־יְדֵי־זֶה לְהִתְעוֹרְרוּת גָּדוֹל בְּלֵב וָנֶפֶשׁ. וְהַכְּלָל – כִּי הַדִּבּוּר בְּעַצְמוֹ יֵשׁ לוֹ כֹּחַ גָּדוֹל:
Thus, sometimes, as a result of a great deal of speaking, even when it is without any feeling, one’s heart and soul are afterwards greatly inspired. The principle is that the act of speaking in itself has great power.
