הִנְנִי
Behold, I stand here,
הֶעָנִי מִמַּֽעַשׂ,
impoverished in good deeds,
נִרְעַשׁ וְנִפְחַד
perturbed and frightened
מִפַּֽחַד
in fear [of Him,]
יוֹשֵׁב תְּהִלּוֹת יִשְׂרָאֵל.
Who is enthroned upon the praises of Yisrael.
בָּֽאתִי לַעֲמֹד וּלְהִתְחַנֵּן לְפָנֶֽיךָ
I have come to stand and to plead before You
עַל עַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל
in behalf of Your people, Yisrael,
אֲשֶׁר שְׁלָחֽוּנִי.
who have appointed me their messenger;
אַף עַל פִּי שֶׁאֵינִי כְּדַאי
even though I am not worthy
וְהָגוּן לְכָךְ.
or qualified for the task.
לָכֵן אֲבַקֵּשׁ מִמְּךָ אֱלֹהֵי אַבְרָהָם
I therefore beseech You, God of Avraham,
אֱלֹהֵי יִצְחָק וֵאלֹהֵי יַעֲקֹב.
God of Yitzchak and God of Yaakov;
יְהֹוָה יְהֹוָה
Adonoy, Adonoy,
אֵל רַחוּם וְחַנּוּן
Almighty, Compassionate and Gracious,
אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל.
God of Yisrael,
שַׁדַּי אָיוֹם וְנוֹרָא,
Shaddai, Eminent and Awesome,
הֱיֵה נָא מַצְלִֽיחַ דַּרְכִּי
please, help me succeed in the mission
אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי הוֹלֵךְ
which I have undertaken
לַעֲמֹד וּלְבַקֵּשׁ רַחֲמִים
to stand [before You] and to seek mercy
עָלַי
for myself
וְעַל שׁוֹלְחָי.
and for those who have appointed me.
נָא אַל תַּפְשִׁיעֵם בְּחַטֹּאתַי
Do not hold them responsible for my sins,
וְאַל תְּחַיְּבֵם בַּעֲוֹנוֹתַי.
nor condemn them for my iniquities,
כִּי חוֹטֵא וּפוֹשֵֽׁעַ אָֽנִי.
as I am a sinner and a transgressor.
וְאַל יִכָּלְמוּ
Let them not be disgraced
בִּפְשָׁעַי
through my transgressions;
וְאַל יֵבֽוֹשׁוּ הֵם בִּי
may they not be ashamed of me,
וְאַל אֵבוֹשׁ אֲנִי בָּהֶם.
nor may I be ashamed of them.
וְקַבֵּל תְּפִלָּתִי
Accept my prayer
כִּתְפִלַּת זָקֵן
as the prayer of one who is mature
וְרָגִיל
and experienced [in prayer],
וּפִרְקוֹ נָאֶה
and as one who is respected,
וּזְקָנוֹ מְגֻדָּל
whose beard is full-grown,
וְקוֹלוֹ נָעִים
whose voice is pleasant,
וּמְעֻרָב בְּדַֽעַת עִם הַבְּרִיּוֹת.
and who is pleasing to his fellow man.
וְתִגְעַר בַּשָּׂטָן לְבַל יַשְׂטִינֵֽנִי.
Rebuke Satan that he not accuse me,
וִיהִי נָא דִלּוּגֵֽנוּ
and may our assembling
עָלֶֽיךָ אַהֲבָה.
[be acceptable] to You with love;
וְעַל כָּל פְּשָׁעִים
and may all [our] transgressions
תְּכַסֶּה בְּאַהֲבָה.
be covered over with [Your] love.
וְכָל צָרוֹת וְרָעוֹת
All our troubles and afflictions;
הֲפָךְ נָא לָנוּ וּלְכָל יִשְׂרָאֵל
please turn them for us and all Yisrael
לְשָׂשׂוֹן וּלְשִׂמְחָה
into happiness and joy,
לְחַיִּים וּלְשָׁלוֹם.
life and peace.
הָאֱמֶת וְהַשָּׁלוֹם אֱהָֽבוּ
May they love truth and peace,
וְלֹא יְהִי שׁוּם מִכְשׁוֹל
and may there be no impediment
בִּתְפִלָּתִי.
in my prayer.
וִיהִי רָצוֹן מִלְּפָנֶֽיךָ יְהֹוָה
And may it be Your will, Adonoy,
אֱלֹהֵי אַבְרָהָם יִצְחָק וְיַעֲקֹב.
God of Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov,
הָאֵל
the Almighty,
הַגָּדוֹל הַגִּבּוֹר וְהַנּוֹרָא.
the Great, the Powerful, the Awesome,
אֵל עֶלְיוֹן.
most high, Almighty,
אֶהְיֶה אֲשֶׁר אֶהְיֶה.
“I am that I am”
שֶׁכָּל הַמַּלְאָכִים
that all the angels
שֶׁהֵם מַעֲלֵי תְפִלּוֹת.
who convey prayers,
יָבִֽיאוּ תְפִלָּתִי
may they bring my prayers
לִפְנֵי כִסֵּא כְבוֹדֶֽךָ.
to the presence of Your glorious throne,
וְיַצִּֽיגוּ אוֹתָהּ לְפָנֶֽיךָ.
and present them to You
בַּעֲבוּר כָּל
for the sake of all those who are
הַצַּדִּיקִים וְהַחֲסִידִים וְהַיְּשָׁרִים.
righteous, pious and upright,
וּבַעֲבוּר כְּבוֹד שִׁמְךָ
and for the sake of Your glorious Name,
הַגָּדוֹל וְהַנּוֹרָא.
[which is] great and awesome;
כִּי אַתָּה שׁוֹמֵֽעַ תְּפִלַּת
for You hear the prayers
עַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּרַחֲמִים.
of Your people, Yisrael, with compassion.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה
Blessed are You
שׁוֹמֵֽעַ תְּפִלָּה:
Who hears prayers.
אֵל מֶֽלֶךְ נֶאֱמָן. שַׁדַּי מֶֽלֶךְ עֶלְיוֹן. קַבֵּל שַׁוְעָתִי בְּרָצוֹן, אֱמוֹץ לְבָבִי (כּוּזוּ בְּמוּכְסָז כּוּזוּ) אֵל חַי. דַּיָּן אֱמֶת. שׁוֹפֵט צֶֽדֶק. רַחוּם וְחַנּוּן, רַחֵם עָלַי וּשְׁמַע הַיּוֹם אֲשֶׁר אַעְתִּיר בַּעֲדִי וּבְעַד בֵּיתִי וּבְעַד עֲדָתִי הַמַּסְכִּימִים עִמִּי בִּתְפִלָּתִי. וְתִכְלֹל תְּפִלָּתֵֽנוּ עִם כָּל תְּפִלּוֹת הַיְשָׁרוֹת וְהַנְּקִיּוֹת שֶׁיֵּעָשׂוּ הַיּוֹם בְּעַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל. וְתַחְתֹּר תַּֽחַת כִּסֵּא כְבוֹדֶֽךָ כְּמוֹ שֶׁחָתַֽרְתָּ לִתְפִלַּת משֶׁה שֶׁלֹּא יֵבֽוֹשׁוּ שׁוֹלְחַי בִּי וְלֹא אֲנִי בָּהֶם: יִהְיוּ לְרָצוֹן אִמְרֵי פִי וְהֶגְיוֹן לִבִּי לְפָנֶֽיךָ יְיָ צוּרִי וְגוֹאֲלִי. אָמֵן סֶֽלָה: יְהִי רָצוֹן לְפָנֶֽיךָ אָיוֹם וְנוֹרָא. שֶׁתִּתֵּן לִי קוֹל עָרֵב וְנָעִים הַיּוֹם. וְאַל יִפְסַק קוֹלִי. וְאַל יִֽחַר גְּרוֹנִי. וִיהֵא קוֹלִי נָעִים וְחָזָק. כְּמוֹ שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר וַיְהִי קוֹל הַשֹּׁפָר הוֹלֵךְ וְחָזֵק מְאֹד. אָמֵן סֶֽלָה:
יִתְגַּדַּלוְיִתְקַדַּשׁ שְׁמֵהּ רַבָּא
Exalted and sanctified be His great Name
בְּעָלְמָא דִּי בְרָא
in the world which He created
כִרְעוּתֵהּ
according to His will;
וְיַמְלִיךְ מַלְכוּתֵהּ
and may He rule His Kingdom
בְּחַיֵּיכוֹן וּבְיוֹמֵיכוֹן
in your lifetime and in your days,
וּבְחַיֵּי
and in the lifetime
דְכָל בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל,
of the entire House of Yisrael,
בַּעֲגָלָא וּבִזְמַן קָרִיב
speedily and in the near future—
וְאִמְרוּ אָמֵן:
and say Amein.
יְהֵא שְׁמֵהּ רַבָּא מְבָרַךְ
May His great Name be blessed
לְעָלַם וּלְעָלְמֵי עָלְמַיָּא
forever and for all eternity.
יִתְבָּרַךְ וְיִשְׁתַּבַּח
Blessed and praised,
וְיִתְפָּאַר וְיִתְרוֹמַם וְיִתְנַשֵּׂא
glorified, and exalted and uplifted,
וְיִתְהַדָּר וְיִתְעַלֶּה וְיִתְהַלָּל
honored and elevated and extolled
שְׁמֵהּ דְקוּדְשָׁא, בְּרִיךְ הוּא
be the Name of the Holy One, blessed is He;
לְעֵֽלָּא וּלְעֵֽלָּא
far above
מִכָּל בִּרְכָתָא וְשִׁירָתָא,
all the blessings and hymns,
תֻּשְׁבְּחָתָא וְנֶחֱמָתָא,
praises and consolations
דַּאֲמִירָן בְּעָלְמָא, וְאִמְרוּ אָמֵן:
which we utter in the world—and say Amein.
