יש הבדל בין חִזק בכבד ובין מחזיק בהפעיל. "חזק" בכבד מציין שמחזיק כח החלש; ובהפעיל מורה שתופס בחברו בכח; ואם אחריו ב' מורה שתופס בלא הנחה. (בהר ס' עא)

Ayelet Hashachar, translated by Betzalel Avraham Feinstein, 2021

There is a difference between חִזק (strengthen) in active voice intensive conjugation and מחזיק (grab) in active voice causative conjugation: חִזק in active voice intensive conjugation indicates that he gives strength to the weak; And with active voice causative conjugation, it teaches that he grabs onto his friend with strength. And if the prefix letter ב is after it, it teaches that he grabs on without letting go.
