The ordinal numbers ראשון (first),שני (second),שלישי (third) are only correct with things in which one precedes its successor in time or in place, not with things that are completely separate.
ועל כן במה שכתב "כאשר שרף את הפר הראשון" דרש שהוא ראשון להקרבה (ויקרא ס' רנה)

And thus, when it is written כאשר שרף את הפר הראשון (as he burned the first bullock)¹⁵³, it is interpreted that it was the first to be sacrificed.
