שרי מסים וכו' כבר כתבתי למעלה. יען ראי' בס' הישר כי פרעה צוה לכל עמו שיחזקו פתו' ורעמסס. וליתן להם שכר עבודת' ממס המלך ואוצרותיו. ולזה צוה לשרי מסים ומתחילה באו כל מצרים וגם ישראל לעבוד עבוד' המלך ונתן להם שכר'. ומקץ ימים וארבע חדשי' ברחו כל מצרי' וישארו בני ישראל לבדם לעשו' מלאכה ויכנשו את ישראל בעבוד' פרך. ומהם אשר עמדו על בני ישראל לשרי מסים לקחת מהם את כל אשר נתנו להם בשכר עבודתם ע"ש ותבין פירוש הקרא:

את פיתום וכו' אי' במדרש ילקוט כשלקח יוסף את בנימין נתמלא יהודה חימה ושאגו שניהם ומקולם נפלו פיתום ורעמסס ועל כן נגזר על ישראל לבנותם עכ"ל. ועוד אית' במדרש שיראו ממלכי כנען שיבאו למלחמה מקנאת זהב וכסף שכנסו:
