Therefore we are obligated to give thanks: The older version of this passage contains seven terms of thanksgiving, for the seven levels of the firmament.²⁶⁵ 116a Lifikakh Our version of this statement contains nine terms, for the seven firmaments, the sun and the moon. Others explain that the nine terms are a reference to the nine supernal Sephirot and the tenth, Malchutis reference to the term l’mi sh’asa la’avoteinu, “to the one who did for our ancestors.” The tenth Sephirah, like the moon, receives its radiance from the other heavenly bodies; so too, Malchutreceives its flow of justice and mercy from the other Sephirot. The nine terms of thanksgiving are for the six blessings: miracles, freedom, joy, festive day, light, redemption. Together these six blessings contain fifteen words, like the fifteen verses of dayeinu, and the name of God (Yud Hei). To this we conclude Hallelu-YAH (Yud Hei)!
