חֹ֖שֶׁךְ Darkness was the ninth plague.

  1. אַפּ֗וֹ “His anger” - people could not see their fellow for three days , but if they were sitting, they could stand, or if they were standing they could sit down.

עברה לא קמו איש מתחתיו שלשת ימים אחרים.

  1. עֶבְרָ֣ה “Wrath” - For the next three days they could not even stand up from their place.

זעם היו רעבים גם צמאים ולא היו יכולים לאכול ולשתות.

  1. זַ֣עַם “Indignation,” - They were hungry and thirsty because they could not eat or drink.

צרה שלא אבדו חושיהם אלא בדעתם היו.

  1. צָרָ֑ה “Trouble,” - They did not lose their senses but were aware of what was happening.

  1. מִ֝שְׁלַ֗חַת מַלְאֲכֵ֥י רָעִֽים “A band of deadly messengers,” - They could hear the Israelites entering and searching their homes so that they were afraid they were robbing them of the wealth.
