ד"א בנוהג שבעולם אדם קונה לו עבד שאם יצא לדרך יהא עבדו קודם ומתקן לו איטימסיאה, ואני לא עשיתי כן, אלא אתם עבדיי ואני הייתי מתקן איטימסיאה, שנאמר וארון ברית ה' נוסע לפניהם דרך שלשת ימים לתור להם מנוחה (במדבר י לג).
Another interpretation (of Numb. 14:27). By universal custom one buys himself a servant so that, if he sets out on the road, his slave will go ahead and prepare for him safe and well supplied quarters;²⁶ (“preparation”). but I have not done so. Rather, though you are my servants, I prepared quarters for you, as stated (in Numb. 10:33): AND THE ARK OF THE COVENANT OF THE LORD TRAVELED AHEAD OF THEM THREE DAYS' JOURNEY TO SEEK OUT A RESTING PLACE FOR THEM.
