Wisdom is great, but knowledge and understanding are greater than that.³⁰ (Prov. 2:6:) FOR THE LORD GRANTS WISDOM.] But to whomever he loves, (ibid., cont.:) {HE WILL GIVE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING} [OUT OF HIS MOUTH COME KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING]. R. Isaac said: To what is the matter comparable? To a king who had a son. When he came from school, he found a tray of food before his father. His father took a piece of food and gave it to him. What did his son do? He said to him: I want only what is in your mouth. Because he cherished him, he gave him food from the midst of his mouth. [Ergo] (ibid.): FOR THE LORD GRANTS WISDOM; but in the case of whomever he loves, (ibid.:) OUT OF HIS MOUTH COME KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING. The Holy One has given Torah to Israel as a gift.
