Haleluya; O give thanks to the Lord; for he is good: for his steadfast love endures for ever.

Hallelukah! Give thanks to the L rd, for He is good; for His lovingkindness endures forever.

Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord? who can declare all his praise?

Who can relate the mighty acts of the L rd; [Who can] make heard all of His praise?

Happy are they who maintain justice, and do righteousness at all times.

Happy are those who keep the judgment [of the Torah], who do righteousness at all times.

Remember me, O Lord, when Thou showest favour to Thy people: O visit me with Thy salvation;

Remember me, O L rd, when You favor Your people; visit me [with good] upon Your salvation.

that I may see the good of Thy chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the gladness of Thy nation, that I may glory with Thy inheritance.

To witness the good of Your chosen ones, to rejoice in the joy of Your nations, to glory with Your inheritance.

We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.

We sinned with [i.e., as did] our fathers; we transgressed and were wicked.

Our fathers in Miżrayim paid no heed to Thy wonders; they did not remember the multitude of Thy deeds of lovingkindness; and they rebelled against Thee at the Sea, at the Sea of Suf.

Our ancestors in [leaving] Egypt were not mindful of Your wonders [that You wrought therein]. They did not remember the abundance of Your lovingkindness. And they rebelled at the sea, at the Red Sea.

But he saved them for his name’s sake, that he might make known his mighty power.

And He saved them for His name's sake, to make known His strength.

He rebuked the Sea of Suf also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.

And He rebuked the Red Sea and it dried up, and He led them [Israel] in the depths as [in] the desert.

And he saved them from the hand of him who hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.

And He saved them from the hand of the hater, and He redeemed them from the hand of the foe.

And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.

And the waters covered their oppressors; one of them did not remain.

Then they believed his words; they sang his praise.

And they believed in His words, and they sang His praise.

They soon forgot his works; they did not wait for his counsel:

But quickly they forgot His deeds; they did not aspire to His counsel.

but lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tried God in the desert.

And they lusted lust in the desert [viz. Numbers 11:4]; they tried G d in the waste land.

And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.

And He granted their wish, and [in doing so] He sent want into their souls.

And they envied Moshe in the camp, Aharon the Lord’s holy one.

And they angered Moses in the camp; and Aaron, the holy one of the L rd.

The earth opened and swallowed up Datan, and covered the company of Aviram.

The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan, and it covered the congregation of their mighty ones.

And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.

And a fire consumed their congregation [viz. Numbers 16:35]; a flame enfurled the wicked.

They made a calf in Ḥorev, and worshipped a molten image.

They made a calf in Chorev; they bowed down to a molten image.

Thus they exchanged their glory for the likeness of an ox that eats grass!

They bartered their glory for the image of an ox, an eater of grass.

They forgot God who had saved them, who had done great things in Miżrayim;

They forgot the G d who saved them, who wrought great deeds in Egypt,

wondrous works in the land of Ḥam, and terrible things by the Sea of Suf.

Wonders in the land of Cham, awesome acts at the Red Sea.

Therefore he said that he would destroy them. had not Moshe his chosen one stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.

And He would have destroyed them had not Moses His chosen one stood in the breach before Him to turn His wrath from destruction.

Moreover, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:

And they despised the land of delight [(in the sending and the calumny of the spies [viz. Numbers 13:32])]; they did not believe His word [that they would inherit it].

but murmured in their tents, and did not hearken to the voice of the Lord.

And they grumbled in their tents; they did not heed the voice of the L rd.

Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, swearing to overthrow them in the wilderness:

And He lifted His hand against them [in oath] to cast them down in the dessert

to cast out their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands.

and to cast down their seed among the nations and to scatter them among the lands. [At that time (the ninth of Av) the destruction of the Temple was decreed.]

Then they joined themselves to Ba῾al-pe῾or, and ate the sacrifices of the dead.

And they cleaved unto Ba'al Peor, and they ate the offerings of the dead [i.e., the idols].

Thus they provoked him to anger with their deeds: and the plague broke out upon them.

And they angered [the L rd] with their acts, and a plague raged among them.

Then stood up Pineĥas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed.

And Pinchas arose and he judged, and the plague was halted.

And that was counted to him for righteousness to all generations for evermore.

And it was reckoned unto him as righteousness, from generation to generation, forever.

And they angered him at the waters of Meriva, so that it went ill with Moshe for their sakes:

And they aroused the wrath [of the L rd] at the waters of contention, and Moses was afflicted because of them.

because they angered his spirit, so that he spoke rashly with his lips.

Because they [Moses and Aaron] rebelled against His spirit [by saying (Numbers 20:10): "Hear, now, you rebels, etc."], and He uttered [an oath against them] with His lips [viz. Numbers 20:12].

They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the Lord commanded them:

They [(in the days of Joshua)] did not destroy the peoples which the L rd charged them [to destroy (viz. Deuteronomy 20:16, Exodus 23:33)].

but were mingled among the nations, and learned their works:

And they were mixed up with the nations, and they learned their deeds.

and they served their idols, which became a snare to them.

And they served their idols, and they [the nations] were a snare unto them.

And they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to idols,

And they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons.

and shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Kena῾an: and the land was polluted with blood.

And they spilled innocent blood, the blood of their sons and their daughters, which they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. And the land was incriminated with the blood.

Thus they were defiled with their own works, and went astray in their doings.

And they were defiled by their deeds and they turned astray by their acts.

Therefore was the wrath of the Lord kindled against his people, and he abhorred his inheritance.

And the wrath of the L rd burned against His people, and He abominated His inheritance.

So he gave them into the hand of the nations; and they that hated them ruled over them.

And He handed them over to the nations [(in the days of the judges, between one judge and another)], and their foes ruled over them.

Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.

And their enemies oppressed them, and they were humbled beneath their hand.

Many times did he deliver them; but they were rebellious in their counsel, and were brought low through their iniquity.

Many times [they angered Him and] He, [withholding His wrath,] rescued them, but they rebelled by their counsel and were debased by their sins.

Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry:

Yet [(when they prayed)], He beheld their oppression, hearing their plaints [(in the merit of the patriarchs)].

and he remembered for them his covenant, and relented according to the abundance of his steadfast love.

And [(when they repented)] He remembered His covenant unto them, and He repented Himself in the abundance of His lovingkindness [viz. Deuteronomy 4:30].

Moreover he caused them to be pitied by all their captors.

And He rendered them [objects of] compassion before all of their captors.

Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from among the nations, to give thanks to Thy holy name, and to triumph in Thy praise.

[Now, too, in our present exile,] save us, O L rd our G d, and gather us from among the nations, to give thanks to Your holy name, to glory in Your praise.

Blessed be the Lord God of Yisra᾽el from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Haleluya!

Blessed is the L rd, the G d of Israel, from the world [i.e., from this world] until the world [to come]. And all the people will say Amen, Hallelukah!
