A Ma῾alot Poem. To Thee I lift up my eyes, O Thou who dwellest in the heavens.
A song of ascents. To You did I lift my eyes, [to You] who are seated in the heavens.
Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until he shall be gracious to us.
Behold, as the eyes of servants to the hand of their masters; as the eyes of a maidservant to the hand of her mistress, so are our eyes to the L rd our G d until He is gracious to us.
Be gracious to us, O Lord, be gracious to us: for we are overfilled with contempt.
Be gracious unto us, O L rd, be gracious unto us, for we have been much sated with shame.
רַבַּת֮ שָֽׂבְעָה־לָּ֢הּ נַ֫פְשֵׁ֥נוּ הַלַּ֥עַג הַשַּֽׁאֲנַנִּ֑ים הַ֝בּ֗וּז (לגאיונים) [לִגְאֵ֥י יוֹנִֽים]׃{פ}
Our soul is overfilled with the scorn of those who are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.
Much have our souls been sated with the mockery of the tranquil ones [the idolators], the scorn of [Jerusalem,] the valley of doves.
