To the chief Musicians, A Psalm of David.
For the conductor, a psalm of David.
The king joys in Thy strength, O Lord; and in Thy salvation how greatly he rejoices!
O L rd, in Your strength shall the king [(David)] rejoice. And in Your salvation how greatly shall he regale!
Thou hast given him his heart’s desire, and hast not withheld the request of his lips. (Sela.)
You have given him the desire of his heart, and You [certainly] shall not withhold the petition of his lips!
For Thou dost meet him with the blessings of goodness: Thou settest a crown of pure gold on his head.
For [(before he even asked)] You preceded him [(i.e., his asking)] with blessings of good [viz. II Samuel 7:12]; You have set on his head a crown of gold [viz. II Samuel 12:30].
He asked life of Thee, and Thou didst give it him; length of days for ever and ever.
He asked life of You [(in fleeing from Eretz Yisrael before Saul)]. You gave it to him [(by returning him to Eretz Yisrael)], length of days [(to his kingdom)] forever [viz. II Samuel 7:13].
His glory is great in Thy salvation: honour and majesty Thou dost lay upon him.
Great is his honor through Your salvation. Grandeur and glory shall you set upon him.
For Thou dost make him most blessed forever: Thou makest him exceeding glad with Thy countenance.
For You shall appoint him for blessings forever. You shall regale him in the joy of [beholding] Your face [(in Gan Eden)].
For the king trusts in the Lord, and through the steadfast love of the most High he shall not be moved.
For the king trusts in the L rd, and in the lovingkindness of the Most High he shall not falter.
Thy hand shall find out all Thy enemies: Thy right hand shall seize those that hate Thee.
Bring Your hand [i.e., Your blows] upon all of Your foes; bring Your right hand upon all of Your haters.
Thou shalt make them like a fiery oven in the time of Thy anger: the Lord shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them.
Make them like a fiery furnace at the time of Your wrath. Let the L rd in His wrath swallow them up, and let fire consume them.
Their fruit shalt Thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men.
Make their [Esav's] fruit go lost from the earth, and their seed from the sons of men.
For they intended evil against Thee: they imagined a mischievous device, but they will not succeed.
For they [(Titus and his cohorts)] have plotted evil against You [(to kill You!)]; they have devised a scheme that they cannot [execute].
For Thou shalt make them turn their back; Thou shalt aim Thy bowstrings against the face of them.
For You will make them a portion [(to be divided among Israel [viz. Isaiah 23:18])]. With Your bowstrings You will direct [Your arrows] at their faces.
ר֣וּמָה יְהֹוָ֣ה בְּעֻזֶּ֑ךָ נָשִׁ֥ירָה וּֽ֝נְזַמְּרָ֗ה גְּבוּרָתֶֽךָ׃{פ}
Be Thou exalted, Lord, in Thy own strength: we will sing and praise Thy power.
Rise up, O L rd, in Your might [(against those who rise against You)] and we shall sing and chant Your strength.
