A Psalm of Asaf. O God, heathen nations are come into Thy inheritance; Thy holy temple they have defiled; they have laid Yerushalayim in heaps.
A psalm of Asaf. O G d, heathens have come into Your inheritance. They have defiled Your holy sanctuary. They have laid Jerusalem in heaps.
The dead bodies of Thy servants they have given to be food to the birds of the sky, the flesh of Thy pious ones to the beasts of the earth.
They have made the dead bodies of Your servants food for the birds of the sky; the flesh of Your saints [(“saints” after having received their punishment)], [food] for the beasts of the earth.
Their blood have they shed like water round about Yerushalayim; and there was none to bury them.
They have spilled their blood as water around Jerusalem with none to bury them.
We are become a taunt to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to those round about us.
We have become an [object of] shame to our neighbors; mockery and [(derisive)] byword to those around us.
How long, Lord? wilt Thou be angry for ever? will Thy jealousy burn like fire?
How long, O L rd? Will You be incensed forever? Will Your anger [ever] burn as fire?
Pour out Thy wrath upon the nations that do not know Thee, and upon the kingdoms that do not call upon Thy name.
Pour out Your wrath upon the nations which did not know You and upon the kingdoms which did not call out in Your name.
For they have devoured Ya῾aqov, and laid waste his dwelling place.
For they have devoured Jacob and laid waste his habitation.
O remember not against us former iniquities: let Thy tender mercies speedily come to meet us: for we are brought very low.
Remember not unto us our former sins. Let Your mercies quickly come before us, for we are greatly impoverished.
Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Thy name: and deliver us, and forgive our sins, for Thy name’s sake.
Help us, O G d of our salvation for the honor of Your name, and save us and atone our sins for the sake of Your name.
Why should the nations say, Where is their God? let the revenging of the blood of Thy servants which is shed be made manifest among the nations, and before our eyes.
Why should the nations say: Where is their G d? Let there be known in the nations before our eyes the vengeance of the spilled-out blood of Your servants.
Let the groaning of the prisoners come before thee; according to the greatness of Thy power preserve a remnant of those who are appointed to die;
Let there come before You the groaning of the fettered one. In the greatness of Your arm [i.e., Your strength], free the children of the dying one [(Israel, who dies for Your name)].
and render to our neighbours sevenfold into their bosom their insult, wherewith they have insulted Thee, O Lord.
And return to our neighbors, seven-fold into their bosoms, the shame wherewith they shamed the L rd.
וַאֲנַ֤חְנוּ עַמְּךָ֨**׀** וְצֹ֥אן מַרְעִיתֶךָ֮ נ֤וֹדֶ֥ה לְּךָ֗ לְע֫וֹלָ֥ם לְד֥וֹר וָדֹ֑ר נְ֝סַפֵּ֗ר תְּהִלָּתֶֽךָ׃{פ}
So we Thy people and the sheep of Thy pasture will give Thee thanks for ever: we will relate Thy praise to all generations.
And we, Your people, the flock of Your grazing, will thank You forever. Throughout the generations we will tell Your praises.
