A Poem, A Psalm of Asaf.
A song, a psalm of Asaf.
Do not keep silence, O God: do not hold Thy peace, and be still, O God.
O G d, do not remain silent [(to our abuses, wherein our enemies abuse us)]. Let the Almighty not be mute nor still.
For lo, Thy enemies make a tumult: and they who hate Thee have lifted up the head.
For Your foes are tumultuous; Your haters have raised their heads.
They take crafty counsel against Thy people, and consult against Thy hidden ones.
They have been subtle in counsel against Your people. They have plotted against Your hidden ones [(Israel)].
They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Yisra᾽el may be no more in remembrance.
They have said: Let us go and cut them off from [being] a nation; let the name of Israel be mentioned no more.
For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against Thee:
For they have taken heart-counsel together; they have entered into a covenant against You. [(You being known as "the G d of Israel," if they go lost, Your great name will not be mentioned.)]
the tents of Edom, and the Yishme᾽elim; of Mo᾽av, and the Hagrim;
The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moav and the Hagrites.
Geval, and ῾Ammon, and ῾Amaleq; Peleshet with the inhabitants of Żor;
Geval, Ammon, and Amalek, Plasheth and the inhabitants of Tzor.
Ashshur also is joined with them: they are the strong arm of the children of Lot. (Sela.)
Ashur, too, [(who in the past avoided rash counsels)] joined them. They were [ever] a [mighty] arm to the sons of Lot [i.e., they abetted our neighbors, Ammon and Moav, in attacking us].
Do to them as to Midyan; as to Sisera, as to Yavin, at the wadi of Qishon:
Do to them as [You did] to Midian [(through Gideon)]; to Sisra and to Yavin in the river-bed of Kishon [(through Barak)].
who perished at ῾En-dor: they became like dung on the earth.
They were destroyed in Ein Dor; they were as dung on the ground.
Make their nobles like ῾Orev, and like Ze᾽ev: and all their princes like Zevaĥ, and Żalmunna:
Make their princes as ravens and wolves; and as Zevach and Tzalmuna [(princes of Midian slain by Gideon)] all of their lords.
who said, Let us seize for our possession the pastures of God.
Because they said: Let us inherit for ourselves the habitation of G d [i.e., the Temple].
O my God, make them like the whirling chaff: like the stubble before the wind.
O G d, make them as thistles, as stubble before the wind.
As the fire burns a wood, and as the flame sets the mountains on fire;
As a fire burning the forest, as a flame lighting up the mountains.
so pursue them with thy tempest, and terrify them with thy storm.
Thus pursue them with Your tempest, confound them with Your whirlwind.
Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O Lord.
Fill their faces with shame, till they seek Your name, O L rd.
Let them be confounded and affrighted forever; and let them be put to shame, and perish:
They will be shamed and confounded forever; they will be abashed and go lost.
וְֽיֵדְע֗וּ כִּי־אַתָּ֬ה שִׁמְךָ֣ יְהֹוָ֣ה לְבַדֶּ֑ךָ עֶ֝לְי֗וֹן עַל־כׇּל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃{פ}
that men may know that thou alone, whose name is the Lord, art the most high over all the earth.
And [then all] will know that Your name alone is "L rd," that You are supreme over all the earth.
