חזקיה וסיעתו - בני דורו שהאריכו ימים אחריו:
Ḥizkiyah and his faction – the children of his generation whose days after him were extended.
כתבו ישעיה - שהרגו מנשה ולא כתב ספרו שלא היו הנביאים כותבים ספריהן אלא לפני מותן:
wrote Isaiah – who Menashe murdered, and thus he did not write his own book, for none of the prophets would write their books until before their deaths.
משלי קהלת - דכתיב בספר משלי (כד) אשר העתיקו אנשי חזקיה וגו' ועל שחזקיה גרם להן לעסוק בתורה כדאמרינן בחלק (סנהדרין דף צד:) נעץ חרב על פתח בית המדרש כו' נקרא הדבר על שמו:
Proverbs and Ecclesiastes – as it is written in the Book of Proverbs (Prov. 25:1) "which Ḥizkiyah's men copied" etc - for Ḥizkiyah made them study Torah as it is written in the section (B. Sanhedrin 94b) "He inserted a sword at the entrance of the study hall... etc" so they called the matter after his name.
אנשי כנסת הגדולה - חגי זכריה ומלאכי זרובבל ומרדכי וחבריהם:
The men of the Great Assembly —Ḥaggai, Zekharya, Malakhi, Zerubavel, and Mordekhai and their comrades.
כתבו יחזקאל - שנתנבא בגולה ואיני יודע למה לא כתבו יחזקאל בעצמו אם לא מפני שלא נתנה נבואה ליכתב בחוצה לארץ וכתבום אלו לאחר שבאו לארץ וכן ספר דניאל שהיה בגולה וכן מגילת אסתר ושנים עשר מתוך שהיו נבואותיהם קטנות לא כתבום הנביאים עצמם איש איש ספרו ובאו חגי זכריה ומלאכי וראו שרוח הקדש מסתלקת שהיו הם נביאים אחרונים ועמדו וכתבו נבואותיהם וצרפו נבואות קטנות עמם ועשאום ספר גדול שלא יאבדו מחמת קטנם:
they wrote Yeḥezkel — for he prophecied in exile. And I do not know why Yeḥezkel didn't wrote it himself, if not because prophecy is not allowed to be written outside of the Land, so they wrote them after they came to the land. And thus the book of Daniel, which was in exile, and thus the Scroll of Esther and the Twelve of whose prophecies were minor — the prophets did not write it together, but rather each wrote their own book, and Ḥaggai, Zekharya, and Malakhi came and saw that the Holy Spirit was withdrawing, that they were the last prophets, and they arose and wrote their prophecies and attached the minor prophecies with them, and made them a great big that would not be lost because of their small size.
עד לו - עד שייחס עצמו:
until his – until his own genealogy.
מסייע לי' כו' עד שייחס עצמו - שכתב דברי הימים עד שייחס בו את עצמו:
This accords with... ...until he established his genealogy – that he wrote Chronicles until he established his genealogy.
ומאן אסקיה - מי סיימו:
And who finished it – and who finished it Rashi translates the Aramaic into Hebrew here.
תניא כמאן דאמר - כל הך דקתני לעיל יהושע כתב ספרו ושמונה פסוקים שבתורה אתיא כי הא תנא דלקמיה דאמר נמי יהושע כתבן:
דתניא - פלוגתא דתנאי בהאי וימת שם משה כו':
כמו שנאמר להלן כו' - אכולה מילתא קאי דקאמר הקב"ה אומר ומשה כותב כמה שמצינו שהנביאים כותבים מפי רבם:
יחיד קורא אותן - כלומר אין מפסיקין בהן:
לימא ר"י היא - דאמר לא כתבם משה לפיכך נשתנו משאר התורה ודלא כר"ש:
הואיל ואישתנו - לכתוב בדמע אישתנו:
ואימא יעקב כו' - לא גרסינן לה:
ל"א גרסינן [למתניתא] דלעיל במניינא דעשרה זקנים דקא חשיב אברהם ואיתן האזרחי ולא קא חשיב אסף דקסבר משלשה בני קרח הוא:
והא אמר רב כו' - גבי ויחכם מכל האדם מאיתן האזרחי וגו' (מלכים א ד) איתמר וכן הך דהימן זה משה אהימן דההוא קרא איתמר דכתיב ביה והימן וכלכל וגו':
תרי הימן הוו - משכיל להימן האזרחי הימן אחרינא הוה:
ששנותיו כעץ - איוב שהאריך ימים רבים:
משל היה - ללמוד ממנו תשובות למקטרגים על מדת הדין ושאין אדם נתפס על צערו:
איש היה - אלמא הוה:
אלא מעתה ולרש אין כל וכו' - וסיפיה דקרא ותהי לו לבת:
מי הוה - משום דכתיב ותהי:
