אֶל פְּלִשְׁתִּים. עַל פְּלִשְׁתִּים:

בְּטֶרֶם יַכֶּה פַרְעֹה אֶת עַזָּה. כְּשֶׁהָיָה נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּר צָר עַל יְרוּשָׁלַיִם בַּשָּׁנָה הָעֲשִׂירִית לְצִדְקִיָּהוּ, יָצָא חֵיל פַּרְעֹה מִמִּצְרַיִם וַיַּעֲלוּ הַכַּשְׂדִּים מֵעַל יְרוּשָׁלַיִם (ירמיה לז:ה); שָׁמַע פַּרְעֹה, וְשָׁטַף אֶת עַזָּה וְשָׁב לְאַרְצוֹ. בְּסֵדֶר עוֹלָם (פרק כו):
before Pharaoh struck Gaza When Nebuchadnezzar besieged Jerusalem in the tenth year of Zedekiah, Pharaoh’s army came forth from Egypt, and the Chaldeans withdrew from Jerusalem. Pharaoh heard, invaded Gaza and returned to his land. In Seder Olam (ch. 26).
שַׁעֲטַת. אֵין לוֹ דִּמְיוֹן; וְיוֹנָתָן תִּרְגְּמוֹ: ״מִפְּסוֹעִית״:

מֵרַעַשׁ לְרִכְבּוֹ. מֵרַעַשׁ אֲשֶׁר לְרִכְבּוֹ:

גַּלְגִּלָּיו. אוֹפַנֵּי מַרְכְּבוֹתָיו:
his wheels The wheels of his chariots.
לֹא הִפְנוּ אָבוֹת אֶל בָּנִים. לְהַצִּילָם:
fathers did not turn to sons to save them.
לְהַכְרִית לְצוֹר וְלְצִידוֹן. פְּלִשְׁתִּים הָיוּ עוֹזְרִים אוֹתָם מֵאוֹיְבֵיהֶם:
to cut off from Tyre and Zidon The Philistines were aiding them against their enemies.
אִי כַפְתּוֹר. אִיזְלָ״שׁ בְּלַעַ״ז:

נִדְמְתָה. נֶחְרְבָה:

תִּתְגּוֹדָדִי. תְּשָׂרְטִי בְּאֵבֶל וּבְבֶכִי:

חֶרֶב לַה׳. שֶׁהַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא מֵבִיא לָעוֹלָם:
sword of the Lord Which the Holy One, Blessed be He, brings to the world.
הֵרָגְעִי. לְשׁוֹן ״מַרְגּוֹעַ״ (ירמיה ו:טז):
rest Heb. הרגעי, an expression of מרגועַ rest.
