So that we can delve deeper into the previous 'gate' regarding Kedusha (holiness), as they are levels that we can reach with the power of Teshuva (repentance), we learn next to it [next to the previous gate, 'Shaar haKedusha'] the concept of Anava (humility). Anava is obligated to a Baal Teshuva, as we explained in 'Shaar haTeshuva'. We can provide proof of the concept of Anava from Dovid HaMelech (alav haShalom). As it says (in Tehillim, perek 51, line 19), "The sacrifices to Hashem comprise a broken spirit." Therefore, when Shimi ben Gara cursed him (Dovid haMelech), he (Dovid haMelech) was silent so that he receive atonement for his sins. So too, a baal teshuva needs to be humble and 'shafal' (low)... so that he can atone for his sins, just as we will explain at length, with the help of Hashem.
And another reason that we place this 'gate' after 'Shaar haKedusha' is that Kedusha is a level of many levels for a person to arrive at [the level] of being humble, just as we explained in the Masechet Avodat Kochavim, chapter 141 (page 20:2), and just as we explained in Shaar haAhava in chapter 13(1), as we said, "Kedusha (holiness) brings one to Anava (humility)." This is because they are close to each other, [kedusha] to humility. And even one who says that Anava is bigger (greater) than all else, there are many benefits and levels to reach to the level of Anava. And when one looks to understand what we explained in the previous four 'gates', we find with them that they explain all of the levels that lead to Anava. And we spoke briefly about the concept of Anava in perek 13 in Shaar haAhava. However, there are many more levels that 'we' would need to explain. Therefore we will explain them in this 'gate' with the help of Hashem.
