And unto Naomi there was a kinsman on her husband’s side, a man of power and substance, of the family of Elimelech, and his name was Boaz.

Now No῾omi had a kinsman of her husband’s, a man of wealth, of the family of Elimelekh; and his name was Bo῾az.

And Na'ami had a kinsman [(a nephew)] of her husband [(Elimelech)], a valiant man of the family of Elimelech, and his name was Boaz.

Rus, the Moabitess, said to Naomi, “Let me go now to the field and glean among the stalks, behind one in whose eyes I will find favor”; and she said, “Go, my daughter.”

And Rut the Mo᾽avite said to No῾omi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find favour. And she said to her, Go, my daughter.

And Ruth the Moavitess said to Na'ami: Let me now go to the field and glean in the sheaves after one in whose eyes I will find favor. And she said to her: Go, my daughter.

So she went, and came and gleaned in the field, behind the harvesters; [and as Divine fate decreed] she happened upon that parcel of land belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech.

And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and she happened to come to a part of the field belonging to Bo῾az, who was of the kindred of Elimelekh.

And she went and she returned [i.e., she made markers by which she could return], and she gleaned in the field after the harvesters, and she chanced upon the portion of the field that belonged to Boaz of the family of Elimelech.

Behold Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and he said to the harvesters, “Adonoy be with you.” and they responded, “Adonoy bless you.”

And, behold, Bo῾az came from Bet-leĥem, and said to the reapers, The Lord be with you. And they answered him, The Lord, bless thee.

And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and he said to the harvesters: The L-rd be with you! And they said to him: May the L-rd bless you.

Boaz said to his attendant, who was in charge of the harvesters, “to whom does this maiden belong?”

Then Bo῾az said to his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose maiden is this?

And Boaz [(seeing Ruth gleaning with discretion and modesty)] asked his youth: Whose maiden is this?

And the attendant answered—he who was in charge of the harvesters—and he said, “She is a Moabite girl, who returned with Naomi from the fields of Moab.”

And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Mo᾽avite girl who came back with No῾omi out of the country of Mo᾽av:

And the youth who was appointed over the harvesters answered and said: She is a Moavite maiden, who returned with Na'ami from the fields of Moav,

And she did say, “Please allow me to glean and gather among the sheaves, behind the harvesters”; so she came and has remained from early morning until now staying at home only a short time.”

and she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and has continued from the morning until now, scarcely spending any time in the hut.

and she said [to herself]: Let me glean [(the gleaning of the ears [leket, viz. Leviticus 19:9])] and let me gather [what was forgotten of] the sheaves [shikchah, viz. Deuteronomy 24:19] after the harvesters. And she came and stood from since the morning until now, and she has just taken a little respite in the house [of the field hands].

Then Boaz said to Rus, “Listen well, my daughter, do not go to glean in another field, and do not go away from here, but keep close to my maidens.

Then said Bo῾az to Rut, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, nor go away from here, but keep close here to my maidens:

And Boaz said to Ruth: Have you not heard, my daughter? Do not go to glean in another field, and also do not pass on from here, and here shall you cleave with my maidens.

Keep your eyes on the field where they are harvesting, and follow them. I have ordered the lads not to disturb you; and when you are thirsty, go to the jugs and drink from [the water] which the lads have drawn.”

let thy eyes be on the field that they reap, and go after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art thirsty, go to the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.

[Keep] your eyes on the field where they reap and go after them. Have I not commanded the young men not to touch you? And when you are thirsty, [do not be ashamed, but] go to the vessels and drink of what the young men have drawn.

She then fell on her face, prostrating herself on the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, though I am a foreigner?”

Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said to him, Why have I found favour in thy eyes, that thou shouldst take notice of me, seeing I am a stranger?

And she fell on her face and bowed down to the ground and said to him: Why have I found favor in your eyes for you to take notice of me, when I am a stranger?

Boaz answered and said to her, “It has been fully reported to me all that you have done for your mother-in-law since your husband’s death, how you left your father and mother and the land of your birth, and went to a people you had never known before.

And Bo῾az answered and said to her, It has been fully related to me, all that thou hast done to thy mother in law since the death of thy husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy birth, and art come to a people whom thou knewest not before.

And Boaz answered and he said to her: It was told to me all that you did with your mother-in-law after the death of your husband, and that you forsook your father and your mother and the land of your birth and went to a people that you did not know heretofore.

May Adonoy reward your deed, may you be given full recompense from Adonoy, God of Israel, for you have come to seek refuge under His wings [protection].”

The Lord recompense thy deed, and may a full reward be given thee by the Lord God of Yisra᾽el, under whose wings thou art come to take refuge.

May the L-rd repay your doing, and let your wage be full from the L-rd, the G-d of Israel, for having come to shelter yourself beneath His wings.

Then she said, “I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, for you have comforted me, and have spoken to the heart of your handmaid, though I cannot even be considered as one of your handmaidens.”

Then she said, Let me find favour in thy sight, my lord; for thou hast comforted me, and thou hast spoken gently to thy handmaid, though I am not even like one of thy handmaidens.

And she said: Let me find favor in your eyes, my lord, for you have consoled me and you have spoken to the heart of your maidservant, though I am not as [worthy as] one of your maidservants.

And Boaz said to her at mealtime, “Come here and partake of the meal, and dip your bread in the vinegar.” But she sat besides the harvesters, and he handed her some roasted grain; she ate and was satisfied, and left some over.

And Bo῾az said to her at the mealtime, Come here, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was replete, and left.

And Boaz said to her at mealtime: Draw hither and eat of the bread, and dip your crust in the vinegar [(a heat specific)]. And she sat at the side of the harvesters, and he reached out parched corn to her; and she ate, and she was sated, and she left over.

And when she arose to glean, Boaz ordered his lads, saying, “Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not humiliate her.”

And when she was risen up to glean, Bo῾az commanded his young men, saying, Let her even glean among the sheaves, and do not reproach her:

And also let [some sheaves] fall for her even from the bundles, and leave them for her to glean, and do not rebuke her.

And her mother in law said to her, Where hast thou gleaned today? and where hast thou worked? blessed is he who took notice of thee. And she related to her mother in law where she had worked, and said, The man’s name where I worked today is Bo῾az.

And her mother-in-law said to her: Where did you glean today, and where did you work? May your benefactor be blessed. And she told her mother-in-law what she had done with him. And she said: The name of the man for whom I worked today is Boaz.

And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “Blessed be he of Adonoy, Who has not abandoned His kindness with the living and with the deceased.” And Naomi said to her, “The man is related to us, he is one of our [near] kinsmen.”

And No῾omi said to her daughter in law, Blessed is he of the Lord, who has not left off his steadfast love to the living and to the dead. And No῾omi said to her, The man is near of kin to us, one of our nearest kinsmen.

And Na'ami said to her daughter-in-law: He is blessed of the L-rd for not having withheld his lovingkindness from the living [(by feeding them)] and (from) the dead [(by providing them with shrouds, etc.)]. And Na'ami said to her: The man is kin to us. He is one of our redeemers.

And Rus the Moabitess said, “What is more, he said to me: ‘Stay close to my lads until they have finished all my harvesting.’”

And Rut the Mo᾽avite said, He said to me also, Thou shalt keep close by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.

And Ruth the Moavitess said: And he also said to me: With my young men shall you cleave, until they finish all of my reaping.

Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, Rus, “It is best for you, my daughter, that you go forth with his maidens, so that they will not encounter you in a different field.”

And No῾omi said to Rut her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, and that they meet thee not in any other field.

And Na'ami said to Ruth, her daughter-in-law: It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his maidens, and that they [(his young men)] not meet you in another field.

So she kept close to the maidens of Boaz, to glean [with them] until the end of the barley harvest and of the wheat harvest, and she [continued] to live with her mother-in-law.

So she kept close to the maidens of Bo῾az to glean to the end of the barley harvest and of the wheat harvest; and dwelt with her mother in law.
