Let a man not enter the Sabbath if he is afflicted.¹ Therefore one is not to fast on the eve of the Sabbath.² “Orah Hayim,” 249, Mogen Avraham, note 7. Proximate to the kindling (time) of the Sabbath lights let him taste his roast. If it be an obligatory fast, he continues the fast to its completion.³
