הוי מקובל על כל אדם ואל תרדוף אחר הרבנות כי אוי לרבנות שמקברת בעליה וראיה מיוסף שמת קודם אחיו. ואל תכעוס כי הכעס מביא לכלל טעות. צא ולמד ממשה רבינו ויקצוף על אנשי החיל טעה שלא הורה להם גיעולי גוים:
Be well-liked by all people,¹ and do not pursue authority. Woe to authority for it buries its holders.² Proof of this is Joseph, who died before his brothers.³ Do not become angered for anger leads to error. Go and learn from Moses, our teacher, who became angry with the soldiers and fell into error in that he did not instruct them in the cleansing of impure vessels that belonged to gentiles.⁴
