א. בִּשְׁבִיל שֶׁאֵין מְבַקְשִׁין רַחֲמִים עַל חֲבֵרוֹ, עַל יְדֵי זֶה נוֹפֵל לִתְפִיסָה. וְתִקּוּן לִתְפִיסָה שֶׁיְּפַרְנֵס אֵיזֶהוּ בַּעֲלֵי חַיִּים.
Not pleading for mercy for a fellow Jew causes a person to fall into captivity. He can make amends by providing food for some living creature.
ב. כְּאֵב הַשִּׁנַּיִם בָּא עַל יְדֵי אַכְזָרִיּוּת עַל בַּעֲלֵי חַיִּים.
A person suffers a toothache because he has been cruel to animals.
ג. סְגֻלָּה לְהָסִיר הָעַצְבוּת עַל יְדֵי הָרַחֲמָנוּת.
Compassion is a segulah for eliminating depression.
ד. צָרִיךְ לִשְׁמר אֶת עַצְמוֹ מִלְּצַעֵר אֶת בַּעֲלֵי חַיִּים, כִּי יַזִּיק לוֹ.
A person should avoid inflicting pain upon living creatures, as this will bring him harm.
