א. כְּשֶׁאָדָם עוֹשֶׂה מִצְוָה בְּשִׂמְחָה, זֶה סִימָן שֶׁלִּבּוֹ שָׁלֵם לֵאלקָיו.
When a person performs a mitzvah joyously, it is a sign that his heart is wholly with God.
ב. מֵחֲמַת שִׂמְחָה נִפְתָּח הַלֵּב.
Joy opens the heart.
ג. בִּרְבוֹת הַשִּׂמְחָה נִתְחַזֵּק כּחַ הַשִּׂכְלִי, וְהַמַּאֲכָל וְהַמִּשְׁתֶּה הֵם סִבָּה גְּדוֹלָה לְשִׂמְחַת. הַלֵּב וּלְהַרְחִיק הָעַצְבוּת וּדְאָגוֹת.
An increase in joy strengthens the intellect. Eating and drinking are excellent means for instilling the heart with joy and for distancing depression and worry.
ד. עַל יְדֵי צְדָקָה בְּלֵב שָׁלֵם בָּא לִידֵי שִׂמְחָה.
Giving charity wholeheartedly brings happiness.
ה. הַשִּׂמְחָה שֶׁל מִצְוָה הִיא מָעז לָאָדָם.
The joy of a mitzvah strengthens a person.
ו. כְּשֶׁאַתָּה רוֹאֶה, שֶׁהָרָשָׁע בְּפֶתַע פִּתְאוֹם הוּא שוֹחֵק, בְּיָדוּעַ שֶׁנָּפַל לוֹ אֵיזֶה עֵצָה עַל עֲבֵרָה.
When you see a wicked person suddenly smile, clearly it is because he has come up with some scheme for sinning.
ז. עַל יְדֵי עֵצוֹת טוֹבוֹת שֶׁתִּתֵּן, תִּזְכֶּה לְשִׂמְחָה.
By giving good advice, you will be rewarded with happiness.
ח. עַל יְדֵי הָרִקּוּדִין וְהַתְּנוּעוֹת שֶׁאַתָּה עוֹשֶׂה בַּגּוּף, נִתְעוֹרֵר לְךָ שִׂמְחָה.
Dancing or energetically moving your body about will awaken feelings of happiness inside you.
ט. כְּשֶׁנּוֹפֵל לְךָ שִׂמְחָה בְּלִבְּךָ בְּפֶתַע פִּתְאוֹם, זֶהוּ מֵחֲמַת שֶׁנּוֹלַד אֵיזֶהוּ צַדִּיק.
When you find your heart suddenly feeling happy, it is because some Tzaddik has just been born.
י. עַל יְדֵי יִרְאָה בָּא הִתְלַהֲבוּת.
Fear of God brings to religious fervor.
יא. מִי שֶׁמְּבֻזֶּה בְּעֵינֵי עַצְמוֹ, עַל יְדֵי זֶה יָבוֹא לְהִתְלַהֲבוּת.
A person who is lowly in his own eyes will come to religious fervor.
יב. עַל יְדֵי כַּוָּנוֹת הַלֵּב בָּא שִׂמְחָה.
Intention of the heart brings joy.
יג. מִי שֶׁהוּא רָגִיל בִּשְׂחוֹק, בְּיָדוּעַ שֶׁהוּא רָחוֹק מִגְּדֻלַּת הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ.
Whoever is accustomed to frivolity clearly is distant from God’s greatness.
יד. עַל יְדֵי זֶמֶר תָּבוֹא לִידֵי שִׂמְחָה וְהִתְלַהֲבוּת.
Music will make you happy and bring you to religious fervor.
טו. כְּשֶׁתְּשַׂמַּח אֶת הַצַּדִּיק, תּוּכַל לַעֲבד אֶת הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ בְּשִׂמְחָה.
By making the Tzaddik happy, you will be able to serve God with joy.
טז. מִי שֶׁמְּפַרְסֵם אֶת הַצַּדִּיק, זוֹכֶה לְשִׂמְחָה.
A person who spreads the Tzaddik’s fame merits happiness.
יז. עַל יְדֵי בִּטָּחוֹן בָּא שִׂמְחָה.
Trust in God brings happiness.
יח. עַל יְדֵי תְּנוּעוֹת הַגּוּף בָּא הִתְלַהֲבוּת הַלֵּב.
Energetically moving your body about fosters religious fervor.
יט. עַל יְדֵי אֱמוּנָה שְׁלֵמָה תָּבוֹא לְמַדְרֵגָה שֶׁתִּתְאַוֶּה בְּגוּף וָנֶפֶשׁ לַעֲבוֹדַת הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ.
Complete faith in God brings you to a level where you’ll desire to serve Him in body and soul.
כ. מִי שֶׁמֵּשִׂים עַצְמוֹ כְּשִׁירַיִם, יִזְכֶּה לְהִתְלַהֲבוּת.
A person who is supremely humble merits religious fervor.
כא. עַל יְדֵי שִׂמְחָה תְּפִיסַת הַמּחַ נִתְגַּדֵּל.
Joy enhances the mind’s comprehension.
כב. הַשִּׂמְחָה הִיא. סִימָן שֶׁהוּא זֶרַע בֵּרֵךְ ה'.
A person’s joy is a sign that he is from a lineage blessed by God.
כג. הַגְּשָׁמִים יוֹרְדִין בִּזְכוּת שִׂמְחַת חָתָן וְכַלָּה.
Rain falls in the merit of bringing joy to a groom and bride.
כד. עַל יְדֵי שִׂמְחָה שֶׁל מִצְוָה הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא מְסוֹכֵךְ עָלָיו.
God protects a person when he rejoices in performing a mitzvah.
כה. עַל יְדֵי שִׂמְחָה בְּשִׂמְחַת תּוֹרָה זוֹכֶה לַעֲבד אֶת הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ בְּאַהֲבָה.
By rejoicing on Simchat Torah, a person is rewarded with serving God out of love.
כו. כְּשֶׁהַשִּׂמְחָה בָּאָה לָאָדָם פִּתְאוֹם, בְּיָדוּעַ שֶׁיָּבוֹא לוֹ חֶסֶד וִישׁוּעָה.
When happiness comes to a person spontaneously, clearly kindness and help are on the way.
כז. עַל יְדֵי שִׂמְחָה נִתְגַּלָּה כְּבוֹדוֹ שֶׁל אָדָם, גַּם יִזְכֶּה לְדַעַת.
By being happy, a person’s fame spreads and he merits daat.
