א. עִיר שֶׁיֵּשׁ בָּהּ שְׁבוּעוֹת תֶּחֱרַב וְתֵהָרֵס חַס וְשָׁלוֹם.
A city in which people take oaths will be destroyed and demolished, God forbid.
ב. עַל יְדֵי שְׁבוּעוֹת שֶׁקֶר נוֹפְלִים מֵאֱמוּנָה.
Swearing falsely causes a person to fall from faith.
ג. לִמּוּד מַסֶּכֶת שְׁבוּעוֹת מְסֻגָּל לִירִידַת הַגֶּשֶׁם.
Studying the tractate Shavuot is a segulah for bringing rainfall.
ד. עַל יְדֵי שְׁבוּעַת שֶׁקֶר. בָּאִין הִרְהוּרֵי נִיאוּף.
Swearing falsely leads to immoral thoughts.
ה. מִי שֶׁהוּא רָגִיל בִּשְׁבוּעוֹת, מַחֲשָׁבוֹת רָעוֹת בָּאִים לוֹ תָּמִיד.
A person who is always taking oaths will be constantly bothered by evil thoughts.
ו. עַל יְדֵי הַעֲבָרַת הַשְּׁבוּעָה אֵין תְּקוּמָה בְּמִלְחָמָה.
Victory in battle cannot be achieved when an oath has been broken.
ז. מִי שֶׁעוֹבֵר עַל הַשְּׁבוּעָה, בְּיָדוּעַ שֶׁאֵינוֹ מְכַבֵּד יִרְאֵי הַשֵּׁם.
Whoever violates an oath clearly has no respect for God-fearing people.
ח. עַל כָּל עֲבֵרוֹת שֶׁבַּתּוֹרָה נִפְרָעִין מִמֶּנּוּ, וְכָאן מִמֶּנּוּ וּמִמִּשְׁפַּחְתּוֹ וּמִכָּל הָעוֹלָם כֻּלּוֹ, וּמִמֶּנּוּ נִפְרָעִין לְאַלְתַּר.
Whereas a person must pay for having committed any of the sins mentioned in the Torah, punishment for violating an oath is exacted not only from him, but also from his family and the entire world—though he will be punished immediately.
ט. דְבָרִים שֶׁאֵין אֵשׁ וּמַיִם מְכַלִּין אוֹתָם, שְׁבוּעוֹת שֶׁקֶר מְכַלִּין אוֹתָן.
Swearing falsely will destroy even those things that fire and water cannot.
י. מַלְאָךְ גַּבְרִיאֵל הוּא מְמֻנֶּה עַל הַשְּׂרֵפָה לִשְׂרף גַּם לְהַצִּיל.
The angel Gabriel has been put in charge of fire, to destroy as well as to save.
