And there are those who teach, etc.: And there are those who teach thus. "The firstborn Nadab" is by himself, and "Abihu" is by himself. And then "Eleazar and Ithamar" are called together, to teach that each of Nadab and Abihu is considered in the eyes of Scripture as both, like Eleazar and Ithamar together. But Nadab and Abihu, both by themselves, are equivalent to seventy sanhedrins who served before Moses. And because of this, their death atones for Israel. And because of this, it is written: "And your brothers, the whole house of Israel, will mourn over the burning." And Rabbi Shimon said: This is why Scripture emphasizes "the firstborn Nadab," that is, the one who had all the merit and greatness. Nadab and Abihu together, how much more! For there were not two like them in Israel.
