ר) ועל דא תנינן וכו': וע"כ למדנו, בשני צדדים מפורשת האהבה להקב"ה, יש מי שאוהב אותו בשביל שיש לו עושר, אריכות ימים, בנים סביב לו, מושל על שונאיו, דרכיו יכונו לו, ומתוך כך אוהב אותו. ואם יהיה לזה ההפך, והקב"ה יחזור עליו הגלגל בדין קשה, יהיה שונא אותו, ולא יאהב אותו כלל. ומשום זה אהבה זו אינה אהבה שיש לה יסוד.
200. “Therefore, we learned, etc.” Therefore, we learned [that] love for the Holy One, blessed be He, is interpreted on two sides: There is one who loves Him because he has wealth, long life, children surrounding him, he rules over his enemies, his ways are successful for him [see Proverbs 4:26], and as a result he loves Him. But if the opposite were the case, and the Holy One, blessed be He, were to reverse the fortune upon him through harsh judgment, he would hate Him and would not love Him at all. Consequently, this love is not a love that has a foundation.
פירוש. שמתוך ששורש אהבתו מיוסד על דבר משהו, נמצא, אם בטל הדבר, בטלה האהבה.
Explanation: Since the root of his love is based on something, it follows that if that thing were to be nullified, the love would be nullified [as well].
