Rabbi Meir of Rothenburg, his life and his works, by Irving A. Agus. Philadelphia, 1947

Q. Is it obligatory to take Hallah from coarse bread baked especially for (fattening of) geese, but which is also fit for human beings? A. The talmudic sources are at variance with one another, making it impossible to arrive at any definite law. To free oneself from doubt, one should not only have the intention, while kneading, of eating the bread himself, but actually eat some of it, in order to necessitate definitely the taking of Hallah from it.
