The gate to the southern portion of the Inner Courtyard was in the center of its wall, opposite the gate of the Outer Courtyard. This is derived from the verse,¹ 40:28-29. “And he brought me to the Inner Courtyard through the southern gate. He measured the southern gate according to those measures” – i.e., the angel used the same measures here as he used when measuring the first gate (i.e., that of the Outer Courtyard). “Its cells, its pillars, and its vestibules were of those measures. There were windows in it and in its vestibule all around. It was fifty cubits high² and twenty-five cubits wide,” i.e., there were 25 cubits between the edge of the cell on one side and the edge of the cell opposite it. “There were palm-like coronets on its pillars and its stairway had eight steps.”³ 40:31.
