ועוד כלל גדול כשיחרפוהו בני אדם על עבודתו בתפלה או בשאר דברים לא יענה להם אפי' בדברים טובים כדי שלא יבא לידי מחלוקת ולידי גבהות משכחות הבורא ית'. וארז"ל שתיקתו של אדם יפה מדיבורו שהוא מביאתו לידי ענוה.
Another important principle: If people mock you over your service in prayer or other matters, do not respond at all.⁸⁴ Do not even respond with positive words, so as not to be drawn into arguments or pride, which cause a person to forget the Creator, blessed is He. Our sages of blessed memory stated,⁸⁵ “A person’s silence leads to humility.”
