A person should not say, “On Shabbat I will pray with devotion and intent, but not on the weekdays.” That is, do not be like servants who serve the King with zeal when He is present, but are lax in their service when He is not present. Such a person is not a faithful servant. In contrast, a faithful servant knows that being without the King is bad for him, so he pushes his way through all the security until he comes before the King. Even though he is dumbfounded in the Kings presence and is unfitting to come before Him, nonetheless, the King grants him his wish,¹⁴⁴ for He has very great mercy upon him.
