בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהֹוָה
Blessed are You, Adonoy,
אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם
our God, King of the universe
אֲשֶׁר קִדְּ֒שָׁנוּ בְּמִצְוֹתָיו
Who sanctified us with His commandments
וְצִוָּֽנוּ
and commanded us
עַל מִקְ֒רָא מְגִלָּה
concerning the reading of the Megillah.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהֹוָה
Blessed are You, Adonoy,
אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם
our God, King of the universe,
שֶׁעָשָׂה נִסִּים לַאֲבוֹתֵינוּ
Who performed miracles for our fathers
בַּיָּמִים הָהֵם בַּזְּ֒מַן הַזֶּה:
in those days at this time.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהֹוָה
Blessed are You, Adonoy,
אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם
our God, King of the universe,
שֶׁהֶחֱיָֽנוּ וְקִיְּמָֽנוּ
Who has kept us alive and sustained us
וְהִגִּיעָֽנוּ לַזְּ֒מַן הַזֶּה:
and brought us to this time.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהֹוָה
Blessed are You, Adonoy,
אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם.
our God, King of the universe,
הָרָב אֶת רִיבֵֽנוּ.
Who defends our cause,
וְהַדָּן אֶת דִּינֵֽנוּ.
judges our grievances,
וְהַנּוֹקֵם אֶת נִקְמָתֵֽנוּ.
takes vengeance for us,
וְהַמְ֒שַׁלֵּם גְּמוּל
brings retribution
לְכָל אוֹיְ֒בֵי נַפְשֵֽׁנוּ.
upon all our mortal enemies
וְהַנִּפְרָע לָֽנוּ
and exacts payment [punishment]
מִצָּרֵינוּ.
from our oppressors.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהֹוָה.
Blessed are You, Adonoy,
הַנִּפְרָע
Who exacts payment [punishment]
לְעַמּוֹ יִשְׂרָאֵל
in behalf of His people, Israel
מִכָּל צָרֵיהֶם.
from all their oppressors,
הָאֵל הַמּוֹשִֽׁיעַ:
the Almighty, the Deliverer.
אֲשֶׁר הֵנִיא עֲצַת גּוֹיִם וַיָּֽפֶר מַחְשְׁ֒בוֹת עֲרוּמִים: בְּקוּם עָלֵֽינוּ אָדָם רָשָׁע. נֵֽצֶר זָדוֹן מִזֶּרַע עֲמָלֵק: גָּאָה בְּעָשְׁרוֹ וְכָֽרָה לוֹ בּוֹר. וּגְדֻלָּתוֹ יָֽקְ֒שָׁה לּוֹ לָכֶד: דִּמָּה בְנַפְשׁוֹ לִלְכֹּד וְנִלְכַּד. בִּקֵּשׁ לְהַשְׁמִיד וְנִשְׁמַד מְהֵרָה: הָמָן הוֹדִֽיעַ אֵיבַת אֲבוֹתָיו וְעוֹרֵר שִׂנְאַת אַחִים לַבָּנִים: וְלֹא זָכַר רַחֲמֵי שָׁאוּל. כִּי בְחֶמְלָתוֹ עַל אֲגָג נוֹלַד אוֹיֵב: זָמַם רָשָׁע לְהַכְרִית צַדִּיק. וְנִלְכַּד טָמֵא בִּידֵי טָהוֹר: חֶֽסֶד גָּבַר עַל שִׁגְגַת אָב. וְרָשָׁע הוֹסִיף חֵטְא עַל חֲטָאָיו: טָמַן בְּלִבּוֹ מַחְשְׁבוֹת עֲרוּמָיו. וַיִּתְמַכֵּר לַעֲשׂוֹת רָעָה: יָדוֹ שָׁלַח בִּקְדֽוֹשֵׁי אֵל. כַּסְפּוֹ נָתַן לְהַכְרִית זִכְרָם: כִרְאוֹת מָרְדְּכַי כִּי יָצָא קֶֽצֶף וְדָתֵי הָמָן נִתְּ֒נוּ בְשׁוּשָׁן: לָבַשׁ שַׂק וְקָשַׁר מִסְפֵּד וְגָֽזַר צוֹם וַיֵּֽשֶׁב עַל הָאֵֽפֶר: מִי זֶה יַעֲמֹד לְכַפֵּר שְׁגָגָה וְלִמְחֹל חַטַּאת עֲוֹן אֲבוֹתֵֽינוּ: נֵץ פָּרַח מִלּוּלָב. הֵן הֲדַסָּה עָמְ֒דָה לְעוֹרֵר יְשֵׁנִים: סָרִיסֶֽיהָ הִבְהִֽילוּ לְהָמָן לְהַשְׁקוֹתוֹ יֵין חֲמַת תַּנִּינִים: עָמַד בְּעָשְׁרוֹ וְנָפַל בְּרִשְׁעוֹ. עָשָׂה לוֹ עֵץ וְנִתְלָה עָלָיו: פִּיהֶם פָּתְ֒חוּ כָּל יוֹשְׁ֒בֵי תֵבֵל. כִּי פוּר הָמָן נֶהְפַּךְ לְפוּרֵֽנוּ: צַדִּיק נֶחֱלַץ מִיַּד רָשָׁע. אוֹיֵב נִתַּן תַּֽחַת נַפְשׁוֹ: קִיְּ֒מוּ עֲלֵיהֶם לַעֲשׂוֹת פּוּרִים וְלִשְׂמֹֽחַ בְּכָל שָׁנָה וְשָׁנָה: רָאִֽיתָ אֶת תְּפִלַּת מָרְדְּ֒כַי וְאֶסְתֵּר. הָמָן וּבָנָיו עַל הָעֵץ תָּלִֽיתָ:
שׁוֹשַׁנַּת יַעֲקֹב צָהֲלָה וְשָׂמֵחָה
The rose of Jacob cheered and rejoiced¹
footnotes: ¹ The opening sentence refers to the city of Shushan and paraphrases the verse, “And the city of Shushan cheered and rejoiced” Esther 8:15.
בִּרְאוֹתָם יַחַד
when they [all] saw
תְּכֵלֶת מָרְדְּ֒כָי:
Mordechai dressed in royal blue.
תְּשׁוּעָתָם הָיִיתָ לָנֶצַח.
You have always been their deliverance,
וְתִקְוָתָם בְּכָל דּוֹר וָדוֹר:
their hope in every generation,
לְהוֹדִיעַ
to make known
שֶׁכָּל קֹוֶיךָ
that all who hope in You
לֹא יֵבֹשׁוּ.
will never be shamed,
וְלֹא יִכָּלְ֒מוּ לָנֶצַח
and never will be disgraced
כָּל הַחוֹסִים בָּךְ:
those who trust in You.
אָרוּר הָמָן אֲשֶׁר בִּקֵשׁ לְאַבְּ֒דִי.
Cursed be Haman who sought to destroy me,
בָּרוּךְ מָרְדְּ֒כַי הַיְּ֒הוּדִי.
blessed be Mordechai the Yehudi [the Jew].
אֲרוּרָה זֶרֶשׁ
Cursed be Zeresh,
אֵשֶׁת מַפְחִידִי.
wife of he [Haman] who terrified me;
בְּרוּכָה אֶסְתֵּר
blessed be Esther
בַּעֲדִי.
[who interceded] on my behalf.
אֲרוּרִים כָּל הָרְ֒שָׁעִים.
Cursed be all the wicked,
בְּרוּכִים כָּל הַצַּדִּיקִים.
blessed be all the righteous;
וְגַם חַרְבוֹנָה

footnotes: ² Charvona, one of King Ahasuerus's chamberlains, was instrumental in the hanging of Haman. He told the king about the gallows Haman had made for Mordechai. See Esther 7:9.
