דָּא פִּקּוּדָא דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא לְמֹשֶׁה: (שמות כ״ו:ט״ו) וְעָשִׂיתָ אֶת הַקְּרָשִׁים לַמִּשְׁכָּן עֲצֵי שִׁטִּים עוֹמְדִים. (כלא כגוונא עלאה) (ד"א ל"ג פתח רבי יצחק) וּכְתִיב (ישעיהו ו׳:ב׳) שְׂרָפִים עוֹמְדִים מִמַּעַל לוֹ שֵׁשׁ כְּנָפַיִם וְגוֹ', עוֹבָדָא דְּמַשְׁכְּנָא בְּאִינּוּן קְרָשִׁים, כְּגַוְונָא דְּאִינּוּן שְׂרָפִים, (בהאי אתר) אִלֵּין עוֹמְדִים, וְאִלֵּין עוֹמְדִים.
AND THOU SHALT MAKE THE BOARDS FOR THE TABERNACLE OF SHITTIM WOOD STANDING. Of the Seraphim also it says that they were “standing”; thus the boards of the Tabernacle corresponded to the Seraphim.
וְאִי תֵּימָא, וְהָא כָּל חַיָּילֵי שְׁמַיָא אִינּוּן עוֹמְדִים כֻּלְּהוּ, כְּמָה דְאַתְּ אָמֵר (זכריה ג׳:ז׳) וְנָתַתִּי לְךָ מַהְלְכִים בֵּין הָעוֹמְדִים הָאֵלֶּה, וּכְתִיב (מלכים א כ״ב:י״ט) וְכָל צְבָא הַשָּׁמַיִם עוֹמְדִים עָלָיו וְגוֹ', דְּהָא כֻּלְּהוּ מַשִּׁרְיָין עִלָּאִין לֵית לְהוּ קְפִיצִין, וְכֻלְּהוּ קַיְימֵי בְּקִימָה. אֶלָּא וַדַּאי כֻּלְּהוּ קַיְימִין, וּלְזִמְנִין אִלֵּין אִקְרוּן שְׂרָפִים, וּלְזִמְנִין סַלְּקִין בִּשְׁמָא אַחֲרָא, אֲבָל אִלֵּין כֻּלְּהוּ בְּחַד שְׁמָא קַיְימֵי.
It may be asked, Do not all the heavenly Hosts stand? Is it not written, “And I shall give thee walks among these (angels) that stand by” (Zech. 3, 7)? “And all the hosts of heaven were standing” (I Kings 22, 19)-because they have no joints?’¹ It is indeed so, but the angels are sometimes called “Seraphim”, and sometimes by other names, this name being applied to them all.¹
