And now Yisroel, listen to the statutes and to the laws that I am teaching you to fulfill, in order that you will live, and will arrive in, and will inherit the land that Adonoy, the God of your fathers, is giving you.

Now therefore hearken, O Yisra᾽el, to the statutes and to the judgments, which I teach you, to do them, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers gives you.

And now, O Israel, hearken to the statutes and to the judgments which I teach you to do, so that you may live and come and inherit the land which the L-rd, the G-d of your fathers, gives to you.

Do not add to the matters that I am commanding you, and do not subtract from them; to guard the commandments of Adonoy, your God, that I am commanding you.

You shall not add to the word which I command you, neither shall you diminish from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

You shall not add to the thing that I command you [e.g., placing five sections (instead of four) in the tefillin], and you shall not diminish therefrom, to heed the mitzvoth of the L-rd your G-d, which I command you.

Your eyes have witnessed what Adonoy did regarding Ba’al Peor, that every man who followed Ba’al Peor—Adonoy, your God, destroyed him from within you.

Your eyes have seen what the Lord did because of Ba῾al-pe῾or: for all the men that followed Ba῾al-pe῾or, the Lord thy God destroyed them from among you.

(For it is) your (own) eyes that have seen what the L-rd did with (the worshippers of) Ba'al Peor. For every man that went after Ba'al Peor — the L-rd your G-d destroyed him from your midst.

But you who cling to Adonoy, your God—all of you are alive today.

But you that did cleave of the Lord your God are alive every one of you this day.

But you who cleaved to the L-rd your G-d are all alive this day.

See, I have taught you statutes and laws as I was commanded by Adonoy, my God, to fulfill within the land that you are arriving there to inherit.

Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the Lord my God commanded me, that you should act accordingly in the land whither you go to possess it.

See, I have taught you statutes and judgments as the L-rd my G-d commanded me, to do thus in the midst of the land whither you come to inherit it.

You will preserve and you will fulfill [them], for that [displays] your wisdom and your understanding before the nations, who will hear all these statutes and will say, ‘‘The only wise and understanding people is this great nation.’’

Keep them therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, who shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

And you shall heed [This is mishnah (learning)], and you shall do [what you have learned]. For this is your wisdom and your understanding [i.e., You will thereby be accounted wise and understanding] in the eyes of the peoples, who will hear of all these statutes and who will say: Surely, a wise and understanding people is this great nation.

For who is a great nation that has God close to it as [is] Adonoy, our God, whenever we call to Him?

For what nation is there so great, that has God so near to them, as the Lord our God is in all things that we call upon him for?

For who is a great nation which has a G-d near to it as the L-rd our G-d in all of our calling to Him?

And who is a great nation that has upright statutes and laws, like this entire Torah that I am putting before you today?

And what nation is there so great, that has statutes and judgments so righteous as all this Tora, which I set before you this day?

And who is a great nation which has righteous statutes and judgments as all of this Torah which I place before you this day?

Look out for yourself and guard your life exceedingly, lest you forget the words your eyes witnessed, and lest they are removed from your mind, all the days of your life; you will make them known to your children and to your grandchildren.

Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thy eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons—

Only take heed to yourself, and heed your soul exceedingly, lest you forget the things which your eyes saw, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. [Only if you do not forget them and do them as prescribed will you be thought wise and understanding; but if you distort them through forgetfulness, you will be accounted foolish.] And you shall impart them to your sons and to the sons of your sons.

The day you stood before Adonoy, your God, at Choreiv, when Adonoy said to me, ‘‘Assemble for Me the people, and I will let them hear My statements, so that they will learn to fear Me all the years that they are living on the land, and will teach their sons.’’

the day that thou stoodest before the Lord thy God in Ḥorev, when the Lord said to me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.

["Lest you forget the things (the sounds and the lightnings) which your eyes saw" on] the day when you stood before the L-rd your G-d in Chorev, when the L-rd said to me: Assemble the people unto Me, and I shall make them hear My words, so that they learn to fear Me all the days that they live on the earth, and so that they teach their children.

You approached and stood beneath the mountain, while the mountain was burning with fire up to the heart of the heavens—darkness, cloud, and thick cloud.

And you came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire to the heart of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.

And you drew near and you stood at the foot of the mountain, and the mountain burned in fire until the heart of the heavens: darkness, cloud, and mist.

Adonoy addressed you from within the fire; you heard the sound of speech, seeing no image, solely sound.

And the Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire: you heard the voice of the words, but saw no form; only a voice.

And the L-rd spoke to you from the midst of the fire. You heard the sounds of words, but you did not see a likeness, only a sound.

He told you His covenant, which He commanded you to fulfill—the ten statements—and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.

And he declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, the ten Words; and he wrote them upon two tablets of stone.

And He told you His covenant, which He commanded you to do, the ten commandments. And He wrote them on two tablets of stone.

Adonoy commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and laws, for you to fulfill them in the land that you are crossing over there to inherit.

And the Lord commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that you might do them in the land into which you go over to possess it.

And the L-rd commanded me at that time to teach you [the oral law], statutes and judgments, to do them in the land whither you are crossing to inherit it.

Be extremely cautious for your lives, for you did not see any image on the day Adonoy addressed you at Choreiv from within the fire.

Take therefore good heed to yourselves; for you saw no manner of form on the day that the Lord spoke to you in Ḥorev out of the midst of the fire:

And you shall take great heed to your souls. For you did not see any likeness on the day that the L-rd spoke to you in Chorev from the midst of the fire.

Lest you destructively make for yourselves a statue in the image of any form, the representation of a male or a female;

lest you become corrupt, and make a carved idol, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

Lest you corrupt yourselves and make for yourselves a graven image of the likeness of any form, the figure of male or female,

[or] the representation of any animal that is on earth; [or] the representation of any winged bird that flies in the sky;

the likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air,

The figure of any beast that is on the earth, the figure of any winged bird which flies in the heaven,

[or] the representation of anything that crawls on the ground; [or] the representation of any fish that is in the water beneath the earth.

the likeness of any thing that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth:

The figure of any thing that creeps on the ground, the figure of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth.

Or lest you raise your eyes heavenward and see the sun or the moon or the stars—the entire host of the heavens—and you will err and bow to them and worship them, when Adonoy, your God, has made them available to all the peoples who are under the whole sky.

and lest thou lift up thy eyes to heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, thou shouldst be misled to worship them, and serve them, which the Lord thy God has allotted to all the nations under the whole heaven.

And lest you lift your eyes to the heavens [to gaze upon the luminaries and to stray after them], and you see the sun and the moon and the stars — all the host of heaven — and you go astray and bow down to them and serve them, which the L-rd your G-d allotted to all the peoples under all of the heavens [to provide illumination for them].

But Adonoy took you [for Himself] when He took you out of the iron crucible, from Egypt, to be for Him a people-territory like this day.

But the Lord has taken you, and brought you out of the iron furnace, out of Miżrayim, to be to him a people of inheritance, as you are this day.

And you did the L-rd take, and He brought you forth from the iron crucible, from Egypt, to be to Him a people of inheritance as of this day.

Yet Adonoy grew angry at me on account of your statements, and He swore that I would not cross the Yardein and would not enter the good land that Adonoy, your God, is giving you as territory.

But the Lord was angry with me for your sakes, and swore that I should not go over the Yarden, and that I should not go in to that good land, which the Lord thy God gives thee for an inheritance:

And the L-rd was wroth with me because of your deeds, and He swore that I would not cross the Jordan and that I would not come to the good land that the L-rd your G-d gives to you as an inheritance.

For I am to die in this land, I am not crossing the Yardein; but you are crossing, and will inherit this good land.

but I must die in this land, I must not go over the Yarden: but you shall go over, and possess that good land.

For I shall die in this land; I [i.e., even my bones] shall not cross the Jordan. And you shall cross and inherit this good land.

Look out for yourselves lest you forget the covenant of Adonoy, your God, that He made with you, and you make for yourselves a statue—an image of anything—that Adonoy, your God, commanded you.

Take heed to yourselves, lest you forget the covenant of the Lord your God, which he made with you, and make you a carved idol, or the likeness of anything, which the Lord thy God has forbidden thee.

Take heed unto yourselves lest you forget the covenant of the L-rd your G-d that He made with you and you make for yourselves a graven image of the likeness of any [thing] that the L-rd your G-d has commanded you [not to make].

For Adonoy, your God, is a consuming fire, a jealous Almighty.

For the Lord thy God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

For the L-rd your G-d is a consuming fire, a jealous G-d ["jealous" in vengeance to exact punishment of idolators].

When you have children and grandchildren, and have grown old in the land; and you will be corrupt and make a statue—an image of anything—and do what is evil in the eyes of Adonoy, your God, to anger Him.

When thou shalt beget children, and children’s children, and you shall have remained long in the land, and shall deal corruptly, and make a carved idol, the likeness of anything, and shall do evil in the sight of the Lord thy God, to provoke him to anger:

When you bear sons and sons of sons and grow old (venoshantem) in the land [(an intimation that they would be exiled at the end of 852 years (this being the gematria of "venoshantem"). But He exiled them two years before, so that they not be subject to "you will go utterly lost" (26)], and you corrupt yourselves and you make a graven image of the likeness of any [thing], and you do what is evil in the eyes of the L-rd your G-d to anger Him,

I bring as witness against you today heaven and earth, that you will be completely and swiftly removed from upon the land, that you are crossing the Yardein there to inherit; you will not live long upon it, but will be completely destroyed.

I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that you shall soon utterly perish from off the land into which you go over the Yarden to possess it; you shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.

I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day [that I have warned you] that you will go utterly lost, quickly, from the land whither you are crossing the Jordan to inherit it. You will not prolong days upon it, for you will be utterly destroyed.

Adonoy will disperse you among the peoples, and you will remain few in number among the nations that Adonoy leads you to.

And the Lord shall scatter you among the nations, and you shall be left few in number among the nations, where the Lord shall lead you.

And the L-rd will scatter you among the peoples, and you will remain few in number among the nations whither the L-rd will lead you.

There you will serve man-made gods of wood and stone that do not see, do not hear, do not eat, and do not smell.

And there you shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

And you will serve gods there [(By serving their worshippers, it is as if you serve them)], the work of the hands of man, wood and stone, which do not see and do not hear and do not eat and do not smell.

You will seek from there Adonoy, your God, and you will find [Him], when you seek Him wholeheartedly and with your whole being.

But if from there thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

And you will seek from there the L-rd your G-d, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.

When you are in distress and all these things happen to you, at the end of time, you will return to Adonoy, your God, and will obey Him.

When thou art in distress, and all these things are come upon thee, in the latter days, if thou turn to the Lord thy God, and art obedient to his voice;

In your affliction, when all these things come upon you, in the end of days, then you shall return to the L-rd your G-d and you shall hearken to His voice.

For a merciful Almighty is Adonoy, your God; He will not forsake you nor destroy you; nor will He forget the covenant of your fathers that He swore to them.

(for the Lord thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, nor will he destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he swore to them.

For a G-d of mercy is the L-rd your G-d. He will not let go of you and He will not destroy you, and He will not forget the covenant of your fathers, which He swore to them.

Inquire now about the early years that preceded you, from the day that God created Adam on earth and from one end of the heavens to the other end of the heavens: Did anything ever happen comparable to this great event, or did anyone ever hear of such a thing?

For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and from the one side of heaven to the other, whether there has been any such thing as this great thing is, or whether aught has been heard like it?

For ask, now, concerning the first days which were before you, from the day G-d created man upon the earth, [and ask also of all the creations] from one end of the heavens to the other end: Has there ever been the like of this great thing or has its like ever been heard?

Did any people [ever] hear God’s voice speaking from within the fire as you heard and survive?

Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?

[the "great thing":] Has a people ever heard the voice of G-d speaking from the midst of the fire as you have and lived?

Or did any god ever miraculously come and take for himself a nation from within a nation through tests, with signs and with wonders, and through warfare, and with a strong hand and with an extended arm, and with great displays; entirely as Adonoy, your God, did for you in Egypt as you watched?

Or has God ventured to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the Lord your God did for you in Miżrayim before your eyes?

Or has a god ever done miracles to come and take for himself a nation from the midst of a nation with [self-imposed] trials, [by which He manifested His strength, e.g., (Exodus 8:5): "Presume to test me, etc." to see whether I can do so], with signs, [confirming Moses as G-d's messenger, e.g., (Ibid. 4:2): "What is this in your hand, etc."], and with wonders, [such as the "wondrous" plagues], and with war, [at the Red Sea, viz. (Ibid. 14:25): "For the L-rd wars for them"], and with a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terrors, as all that the L-rd your G-d did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

You have been shown that you might know that Adonoy, He is the God; there is no [power] other than He.

To thee it was shown, that thou mightest know that the Lord he is God; there is none else beside him.

You have been shown to know that the L-rd, He is G-d; there is none beside Him. [When the Holy One Blessed be He gave the Torah, He opened the seven heavens and the lower regions, and they saw that He was One].

From the sky He made audible to you His voice to teach you, and on the earth He showed you His great fire, and you heard His words form within the fire.

Out of heaven he made thee hear his voice, that he might instruct thee: and upon earth he showed thee his great fire; and thou didst hear his words out of the midst of the fire.

From the heavens He made you hear His voice to exhort you, and on the earth He showed you His great fire, and His words you heard from the midst of the fire.

Because He loved your forefathers, He chose his descendants after him; and He took you out before Him with His great strength from Egypt.

And because he loved thy fathers, therefore, he chose their seed after them, and brought thee out, he himself being present, with his mighty power out of Miżrayim;

And [all this] because He loved your fathers and He chose their seed after them; and He took you out before Him [as a father leads his son before him (see Exodus 14:19)] with His great strength from Egypt.

To expel nations greater and stronger than you from before you; to bring you in [and] to give you their land as terrritory, like this day.

to drive out nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou art, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day.

To drive out before you nations greater and mightier than you, to bring you, to give to you their land as an inheritance as [you see] this day.

You will know today, and will restore to your perception that Adonoy is the God in heaven above and on earth below; there is no other.

Know therefore this day, and consider it in thy heart, that the Lord he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is no other.

And you shall know this day, and you shall set it to your heart, that the L-rd, He is G-d, in the heavens above and on the earth below; there is none else.

You will guard His statutes and His commandments, which I am commanding you today, so that you have it good and your children after you, and in order that you live long on the land that Adonoy, your God, is giving you for all time.

Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayst prolong thy days upon the earth, which the Lord thy God gives thee, for ever.

And you shall keep His statutes and His mitzvoth which I command you this day, which will confer good upon you and your children after you, and so that you prolong days upon the land that the L-rd your G-d gives you all of the days.

Then Moshe set aside three cities across the Yardein, where the sun rises,

Then Moshe set apart three cities on this side of the Yarden toward the sun rising;

Then Moses would set apart three cities [i.e., He resolved to set them apart (even though they would not serve as cities of refuge until those in the land of Canaan had been designated, Moses seizing upon the mitzvah that came to hand)], across the Jordan towards the rising of the sun [i.e., on the east of the Jordan].

for a murderer to escape there, who has murdered his neighbor without intent, and he had not been his enemy yesterday [or] the day before. He is to flee to one of these cities to survive:

that the slayer might flee there, who should kill his neighbour unawares, and hated him not in times past; and that fleeing unto one of these cities he might live:

To flee there a slayer who slays his neighbor unwittingly, not having hated him heretofore; and he shall flee to one of these cities and he shall live.

Betzer in the wilderness in the plains of the Reuvenites, Romos in the Gil’od of the Gaddites, and Golon in the Boshon of the Menashians.

Beżer in the wilderness, in the plain country, for the Re᾽uveni; and Ramot of Gil῾ad, for the Gadi; and Golan in Bashan, for the Menashshi.

Betzer in the desert in the land of the plain for the Reuveni, Ramoth in Gilead for the Gileadi, and Golan in Bashan for the Menashi.

And this is the Torah that Moshe set before Bnei Yisroel.

And this is the Tora which Moshe set before the children of Yisra᾽el:

And this [(that which follows)] is the Torah which Moses placed before the children of Israel.

These are the testimonies and the statutes and the laws that Moshe addressed to Bnei Yisroel when they came out of Egypt.

these are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Moshe spoke to the children of Yisra᾽el, after they came forth out of Miżrayim.

These [which follow] are the [same] testimonies and statutes and judgments which Moses spoke to the children of Israel when they went out of Egypt.

Across the Yardein, in the valley facing Beis Peor, in the land of Sichon, King of the Emorites, who lived in Cheshbon, whom Moshe and Bnei Yisrael smote when they came out of Egypt.

Beyond the Yarden, in the valley over against Bet-pe῾or, in the land of Siĥon king of the Emori, who dwelt at Ḥeshbon, whom Moshe and the children of Yisra᾽el smote, after they were come forth out of Miżrayim:

[He repeated them in the plains of Moav] across the Jordan [on the east], in the valley, opposite Beth Peor, in the land of Sichon king of the Emori, who dwelt in Cheshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel smote when they went out of Egypt.

They inherited his land and the land of Og, King of the Boshon—the two Emorite kings who were across the Yardein, where the sun rises.

and they possessed his land, and the land of ῾Og king of Bashan, two kings of the Emori, which were beyond the Yarden toward the sun rising;

And they inherited his land and the land of Og the king of Bashan, the two kings of the Emori, who were across the Jordan on the east.

From Aroer, which is on the bank of Wadi Arnon, up to Mount Sion which is Chermon.

from ῾Aro῾er, which is by the bank of the wadi of Arnon, to mount Si’on, which is Ḥermon,

From Aroer, which is by the bank of the stream of Arnon, until Mount Sion, which is Chermon.

And the entire Arava across the Yardein to the east, to Arava Lake, beneath the slopes of the Pisgah.

and all the ῾Arava beyond the Yarden eastward, even to the Sea of the ῾Arava, under the slopes of the Pisga.

And the entire plain across the Jordan to the east until the sea of the plain beneath Ashdoth Hapisgah.
