This is the mitzvah, the statutes and the laws that Adonoy, your God, commanded to teach you to fulfill in the land that you are crossing over there to inherit.

Now this is the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that you might do them in the land into which you go to possess it:

And this is the mitzvah, the statutes and the judgments that the L‑rd your G‑d commanded to teach you to do in the land whither you are crossing over to inherit it —

In order that you will fear Adonoy, your God, to preserve all His statutes and commandments that I am commanding you—you and your son and your grandson—all the days of your life, and in order that you live long.

that thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.

So that you fear the L‑rd your G‑d to keep all of His statutes and His mitzvoth that I command you — you, and your son, and your son's son, all the days of your life, and so that your days are prolonged.

You will heed, Yisroel, and you will be careful to fulfill, so that you will benefit and so that you will multiply exceedingly, as Adonoy, God of your forefathers, spoke about you—a land flowing milk and honey.

Hear therefore, O Yisra᾽el, and take care to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that you may increase mightily, as the Lord God of thy fathers has promised thee, in the land that flows with milk and honey.

And you shall hear, Israel, and you shall observe to do, so that it be good for you and so that you increase greatly, as the L‑rd, the G‑d of your fathers, spoke to you — ("to inherit it":) a land flowing milk and honey.

Listen, Yisroel! Adonoy is our God, Adonoy is one.

Hear, O Yisra᾽el: The Lord our God; the Lord is one.

Hear, O Israel, the L‑rd [who is] our G‑d [now, and not the G‑d of the peoples — He is destined to be] the one L‑rd.

You are to love Adonoy, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your possessions.

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

And you shall love the L‑rd your G‑d [(Do His mitzvoth out of love)], with all your heart [(with both of your inclinations)] and with all your soul [(even if He takes your soul)] and with all your might [(with all your wealth — this, for one whose wealth is more beloved of him than his soul)].

And these words that I command you today shall be upon your heart.

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thy heart:

["And you shall love, etc." What is this love?] And these things that I command you this day [(They should be like a "new edict" to you)] shall be upon your heart [(for you thereby come to know the Holy One Blessed be He and to cleave to His ways)].

You are to teach them to your children and you are to discuss them, when you sit at home, and when you journey on the road, and when you go to sleep, and when you rise.

and thou shalt teach them diligently to thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

And you shall teach them (veshinantam) to your sons [lit., "and they (words of Torah) shall be sharp" (in your mouth), so that if one questions you concerning them you will not stammer but answer him forthwith ("sons" here are disciples, and teachers are called "fathers")]. And you shall speak [primarily] in them [words of Torah] in your sitting in your house and in your walking upon the way and in your lying down [i.e., the time of lying down] and in your rising [i.e., the time of rising].

You are to tie them as a sign on your arm and they are to be totafos between your eyes.

And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thy arm, and they shall be as frontlets between thy eyes.

And you shall bind them as a sign upon your hand [(the arm phylactery)], and they shall be frontlets (totafoth) [denoting "four" (Scriptural sections)] between your eyes [(the head phylactery)].

You are to write them on the doorposts of your house, and on your gateposts.

And thou shalt write them upon the doorposts of thy house, and on thy gates.

And you shall write them on the doorposts (mezuzoth) of your house ["mezuzoth" is written defective (without the vav after the first zayin), indicating that only one mezuzah (per doorpost) is needed], and on your gates [(including the gates of courtyards, provinces, and cities)].

When Adonoy your God will have brought you to the land that He swore to your forefathers—to Avrohom, to Yitzchok, and to Yaakov—to give you: great and good cities that you did not build.

And it shall be, when the Lord thy God shall bring thee to the land of which he swore to thy fathers, to Avraham, to Yiżĥaq, and to Ya῾aqov, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou didst not build,

And it shall be, when the L‑rd your G‑d brings you to the land that He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to you, great and good cities that you did not build,

And houses full of all bounty that you did not fill, and hewn cisterns that you did not hew, vineyards and olive stands that you did not plant; and you will eat and be full.

and houses full of all good things, which thou didst not fill, and hewn out wells, which thou didst not dig, vineyards and olive trees, which thou didst not plant; when thou shalt eat and be replete;

And houses full of all good that you did not fill, hewn cisterns [(the ground being rocky)], which you did not hew, and vineyards and olive groves, which you did not plant, and you shall eat and be sated —

Look out for yourself, lest you forget Adonoy, Who took you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.

beware lest thou forget the Lord, who brought thee out of the land of Miżrayim, from the house of bondage.

Take heed unto yourselves lest you forget the L‑rd, who took you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

Fear Adonoy, your God, and serve Him, and swear by His name.

Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.

The L‑rd your G‑d shall you fear, and Him shall you serve, and [only then (if you fear and serve Him)] in His name may you swear [(for you will then be circumspect in your oath; but otherwise, do not swear in His name)].

Do not follow other gods, from the gods of the peoples around you.

You shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people who are round about you;

Do not follow after other gods, of the gods of the peoples that are around you [i.e., Be especially heedful of the latter in that their proximity presents an immediate danger.]

For a jealous Almighty is Adonoy, your God, within you; lest there be aroused the anger of Adonoy, your God, against you and He destroy you from upon the surface of the land.

(for the Lord thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the Lord thy God be inflamed against thee, and he destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

For a jealous G‑d is the L‑rd your G‑d in your midst. Lest the wrath of the L‑rd your G‑d burn against you, and He destroy you from off the face of the ground.

Do not test Adonoy, your God, as you tested at Massoh.

Do not tempt the Lord your God, as you tempted him in Massa.

Do not try the L‑rd your G‑d as you tried Him in Massah [when they went out of Egypt and they tried Him with water (Exodus 17:7)].

Carefully guard the commandments of Adonoy, your God, and His testimonies and His statutes that He commanded you.

You shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he has commanded thee.

Heed diligently the mitzvoth of the L‑rd your G‑d, and His testimonies and statutes which He commanded you.

Perform the upright and the good in Adonoy’s eyes, in order that you benefit and arrive in, and inherit the good land that Adonoy swore to your forefathers.

And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the Lord: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayst go in and possess the good land which the Lord swore to thy fathers,

And you shall do what is just and what is good in the eyes of the L‑rd [i.e., compromise, beyond the strict letter of the law], so that He do good to you, and you come and inherit the good land that the L‑rd swore to your forefathers.

To smash all your enemies before you, as Adonoy declared.

to cast out all thy enemies from before thee, as the Lord has spoken.

To thrust out all of your foes before you, as the L‑rd spoke [(Exodus 23:27): "And I shall confound all the people, etc."]

When your son asks you tomorrow, saying, ‘‘What are the testimonies and the statues and the laws that Adonoy, our God, commanded you?’’

When thy son asks thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord our God has commanded you?

If your son ask you in time to come, saying: What are the testimonies and the statutes and the judgments which the L‑rd our G‑d commanded you?

You will tell your son, ‘‘We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, and Adonoy took us out of Egypt with a strong hand.

Then thou shalt say to thy son, We were the bondmen of Par῾o in Miżrayim; and the Lord brought us out of Miżrayim with a mighty hand:

Then you shall say to your son: We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, and the L‑rd took us out of Egypt with a strong hand.

And Adonoy set signs and wonders [that were] great and harmful, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon his entire household as we watched.

and the Lord showed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Miżrayim, upon Par῾o, and upon all his household, before our eyes:

And the L‑rd wrought signs and wonders, great and sore, against Egypt, against Pharaoh, and against his whole household, before our eyes.

And us He took out of there, in order to bring us into, and to give us the land He swore to our forefathers.

and he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he swore to our fathers.

And he took us thence in order to bring us to give to us the land that He swore to our fathers.

Adonoy commanded us to perform all these statutes to [show that we] fear Adonoy, our God; to benefit us for all time, to keep us alive like this day.

And the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.

And the L‑rd commanded us to do all of these statutes to fear the L‑rd our G‑d so that it be good for us all of the days, to keep us in life, as this day.

And it will be to our credit if we are careful to fulfill this entire mitzvah before Adonoy, our God, as He commanded us.

And it shall be accounted virtue in us, if we take care to do all these commandments before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us.

And it shall be [accounted] righteousness to us if we observe to do all of this mitzvah before the L‑rd our G‑d as He commanded us.
