Adonoy said to Moshe, “Go in to Pharaoh for I have hardened his heart and [also] the hearts of his servants, so that I will be able to set [perform] these [miraculous] signs in their midst.
And the Lord said to Moshe, Go in to Par῾o: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might show these my signs before him:
And the L-rd said to Moses: Come to Pharaoh [and warn him], for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants in order to set these signs in his midst.
And so that you may relate in the ears of your son and grandson how I made a mockery of the Egyptians, and the miraculous signs I performed among them. You will then know that I am Adonoy.”
and that thou mayst tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son’s son, what things I have done in Miżrayim, and my signs which I have done among them; that you may know that I am the Lord.
And so that you tell in the ears of your son and the son of your son, of My setting Egypt to scorn and of My signs that I placed in them, and you will know that I am the L-rd.
Moshe and Aharon went in to Pharaoh and they said to him, “This is what Adonoy, God of the Hebrews, has said, ‘How long will you refuse to be humbled before Me? Send My people out that they may worship Me.
And Moshe and Aharon came to Par῾o and said to him, Thus says the Lord God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me.
And Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh and they said to him: Thus said the L-rd, the G-d of the Hebrews: How long will you refuse to be humbled before Me? Send out My people and let them serve Me.
For if you refuse to send My people out, I will bring locusts within your borders tomorrow.
Else, if thou refuse to let my people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring the locusts into thy border:
For if you refuse to send out My people, tomorrow I shall bring a locust swarm in your boundaries.
They will cover the visible surface of the land so that one will be unable to see the land. They will eat all that was spared, that remained for you from the hail, and they will eat every tree that grows for you in the field.
and they shall cover the face of the earth, so that it will not be possible to see the earth: and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remains to you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which grows for you out of the field:
And it will cover the face of the land so that the land cannot be seen, and it will devour the remainder of the remnant left to you from the hail. And it will devour every tree that sprouts for you from the ground.
They will fill your houses, and the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians. [It will be something] that was never seen by your fathers or your fathers’ fathers since the day they were on the earth until this day.’” He [Moshe] then turned and went out from Pharaoh.
and they shall fill thy houses, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all Miżrayim; which neither thy fathers, nor thy fathers’ fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth to this day. And he turned, and went out from Par῾o.
And they will fill your houses, and the houses of all of your servants, and the houses of all of Egypt, which your fathers have not seen, and the fathers of your fathers, from the day they were upon the ground until this day. And he turned and went out from before Pharaoh.
Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “How long will this [man] be a menace to us? Send these men out and let them worship Adonoy, their God. Did you not yet realize that Egypt is [being] destroyed?”
And Par῾o’s servants said to him, How long shall this man be a snare to us? let the men go, that they may serve the Lord their God: knowst thou not yet that Miżrayim is destroyed?
And the servants of Pharaoh said to him: How long will this one be a stumbling block to us? Send out the people and let them serve the L-rd their G-d. Do you not yet know that Egypt is lost?
Moshe and Aharon were brought back to Pharaoh, and he said to them, “Go worship Adonoy, your God. Exactly who will be going?”
And Moshe and Aharon were brought back to Par῾o: and he said to them, Go, serve the Lord your God: but who are they that shall go?
And Moses and Aaron were returned [by messenger] to Pharaoh. And he said to them: Go serve the L-rd your G-d. Who and who are the goers?
Moshe said, “With our young and with our old we will go. With our sons, with our daughters, with our sheep and with our cattle we will go, for it is a festival to Adonoy for all of us.”
And Moshe said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast to the Lord.
And Moses said: With our youth and with our elders will we go; with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go. For it is a feast of the L-rd to us.
He [Pharaoh] said to them, “So be it. May Adonoy be with you just as I will send you and your little ones. Beware for evil confronts you.
And he said to them, Let the Lord be so with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it; for evil is before you.
And he said to them: May the L-rd thus be with you as I will send you and your children. [How much more so will I not send your flocks and herds!] See, that [your intended] evil will turn against you.
לֹ֣א כֵ֗ן לְכֽוּ־נָ֤א הַגְּבָרִים֙ וְעִבְד֣וּ אֶת־יְהֹוָ֔ה כִּ֥י אֹתָ֖הּ אַתֶּ֣ם מְבַקְשִׁ֑ים וַיְגָ֣רֶשׁ אֹתָ֔ם מֵאֵ֖ת פְּנֵ֥י פַרְעֹֽה׃{ס}
This is not right. [Only] the [adult] men should go and worship Adonoy for this is what you desire.” He had them expelled from Pharaoh’s presence.
Not so: go now you that are men, and serve the Lord; for that is what you desire. And they were driven out from Par῾o’s presence.
Not so, [as you say, to take the children with you, but], let the men now go and serve the L-rd, for that [to sacrifice to the L-rd (3:18, 5:3)] is what you ask. And he [(It is not indicated who)] drove them away from Pharaoh's presence.
Adonoy said to Moshe, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts [to bring the locusts] and they will emerge upon the land of Egypt. They will eat all the vegetation in the land, that remained from [the destruction of] the hail.”
And the Lord said to Moshe, Stretch out thy hand over the land of Miżrayim for the locusts, that they may come up on the land of Miżrayim, and eat every plant of the land, all that the hail has left.
And the L-rd said to Moses: Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locust swarm. And it shall come up upon the land of Egypt and it shall devour all the grass in the land, all that was left by the hail.
Moshe stretched out his rod over the land of Egypt and Adonoy directed an east wind over the land all that day and all the night. When morning came the east wind had carried [brought] the locusts.
So Moshe stretched out his rod over the land of Miżrayim, and the Lord brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.
And Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and the L-rd swept an east wind over the land all that day and all that night. Morning came and the east wind bore the locust swarm, [Egypt being in the south-west of Eretz Yisrael].
The locusts came up over the whole land of Egypt, and rested [settled] within all the borders of Egypt. It was very severe. Never before had there been such locusts and never again after them.
And the locusts went up over all the land of Miżrayim, and rested in all the borders of Miżrayim: very grievous they were; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall there be such.
And the locust swarm came up on all the land of Egypt, and it rested in the entire boundary of Egypt — very sore. Before it there had never been a locust swarm of its like, and after it there will not be such.
They covered the visible surface of the entire land so that the land was darkened. They ate all the vegetation of the land, and all the fruit of the trees that was left [spared] by the hail. No greenery remained on the trees or on the vegetation of the field in the entire land of Egypt.
For they covered the surface of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they did eat every plant of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left: and there remained no green thing in the trees, or in the plants of the field, through all the land of Miżrayim.
And it covered the face of the whole land and the land was darkened, and it devoured all the grass of the earth and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left. And there remained no green on a tree or in the grass of the field in all the land of Egypt.
Pharaoh hurriedly called for Moshe and Aharon, and he said, “I have sinned to Adonoy, your God, and to you.
Then Par῾o called for Moshe and Aharon in haste; and he said, I have sinned against the Lord your God, and against you.
And Pharaoh hastened to call Moses and Aaron, and he said: I have sinned to the L-rd your G-d and to you.
Now forgive my sin just this one time and plead with Adonoy, your God, just to remove this death from me.”
Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and entreat the Lord your God, that he may take away from me this death only.
And now, forgive my sin, I pray you, just this time, and entreat the L-rd your G-d that He remove from me just this death.
He [Moshe] left Pharaoh’s presence and prayed to Adonoy.
And he went out from Par῾o, and entreated the Lord.
And Moses went out from before Pharaoh and he prayed to the L-rd.
Adonoy turned a very strong westerly wind, that carried away the locusts, and plunged them into the Reed Sea. Not a single locust remained in all of Egypt’s borders.
And the Lord turned a very strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Sea of Suf; there remained not one locust in all the borders of Miżrayim.
And the L-rd turned a very strong west wind, and it lifted the locust swarm and cast it into the Red Sea. There remained not one locust [(even of those they had salted)] in all the border of Egypt.
וַיְחַזֵּ֥ק יְהֹוָ֖ה אֶת־לֵ֣ב פַּרְעֹ֑ה וְלֹ֥א שִׁלַּ֖ח אֶת־בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃{פ}
Adonoy hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not send out the B’nei Yisrael.
But the Lord hardened Par῾o’s heart, so that he would not let the children of Yisra᾽el go.
And the L-rd strengthened Pharaoh's heart and he did not send out the children of Israel.
Adonoy said to Moshe, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky, and there will be darkness over the land of Egypt. The darkness will be tangible.”
And the Lord said to Moshe, Stretch out thy hand towards heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Miżrayim, darkness which may be felt.
And the L-rd said to Moses: Stretch forth your hand towards the heavens, and there will be darkness over the land of Egypt, which shall darken darkness.
Moshe stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was total darkness in the entire land of Egypt for three days.
And Moshe stretched out his hand towards heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Miżrayim three days:
And Moses stretched forth his hand towards the heavens, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt a triad of days.
Man could not see his fellow man, nor could anyone rise from his place for three days. But all the B’nei Yisrael had light in their dwellings.
they saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Yisra᾽el had light in their dwellings.
One man did not see another [for one triad of days (when the wicked among the Jews who refused to leave Egypt were killed — in darkness, so the Egyptians could not say: "These are being smitten as we are")], and no man rose from his place [(One who was sitting could not stand, and one who was standing could not sit)] for [another] triad of days [(when the Jews could search their houses at will for vessels to take with them during the exodus)], and for all the children of Israel there was light in their habitations.
Pharaoh called to Moshe, and he said, “Go! Worship Adonoy. Just let your sheep and cattle stay behind. Even your little ones can go with you.”
And Par῾o called to Moshe and said, Go, serve the Lord; only let your flocks and your herds stay behind: let your little ones also go with you.
And Pharaoh called to Moses and he said: Go serve the L-rd; only your flocks and herds leave in place. Also your children shall go with you.
Moshe said, “You too will give us sacrifices and burnt-offerings that we will make [offer] to our God.
And Moshe said, Thou must give us also sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.
And Moses said: [Not only shall our cattle go with us, but] you, too, shall place in our hands sacrifices and burnt-offerings, and we shall offer them to the L-rd our G-d.
Our own flocks will also go with us. Not a single hoof will remain. We must take from them to worship Adonoy our God; since we do not know with what [animals] we will worship Adonoy until we get there.”
Our cattle also shall go with us; there shall not a hoof be left behind; for of them must we take to serve the Lord our God; and we know not with what we must serve the Lord, until we come there.
Our cattle, too, shall go with us; a hoof will not remain. For we will take thereof to serve the L-rd our G-d. For we do not know what [i.e., how much we will need] to serve the L-rd until we come there.
Adonoy hardened Pharaoh’s heart and he was [no longer] willing to send them away.
But the Lord hardened Par῾o’s heart, and he would not let them go.
And the L-rd strengthened Pharaoh's heart and he did not want to send them.
Pharaoh said to him [Moshe] “Leave my presence. Beware! Do not see my face again; for on the day you see my face you will die.”
And Par῾o said to him, Get thee from me, take heed to thyself, see my face no more; for in the day thou seest my face thou shalt die.
And Pharaoh said to him: Go from me. Take heed to yourself. Do not see my face again. For on the day you see my face you will die.
וַיֹּ֥אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֖ה כֵּ֣ן דִּבַּ֑רְתָּ לֹא־אֹסִ֥ף ע֖וֹד רְא֥וֹת פָּנֶֽיךָ׃{פ}
Moshe said, “As you say. I will not see your face again.”
And Moshe said, Thou hast spoken well, I will see thy face again no more.
And Moses said: True have you spoken, [and in the proper time. Indeed,] I shall not see your face again!
