You shall make an altar to burn incense. Make it out of Acacia wood.
And thou shalt make an altar for the burning of incense: of shittim wood shalt thou make it.
And you shall make an altar for the smoking of the spices; of acacia wood shall you make it.
It shall be one amoh long and one amoh wide, it shall be a square, and two amohs high. Its horn-like elevations shall be of one piece with it.
A cubit shall be the length of it, and a cubit its breadth; foursquare shall it be: and two cubits shall be its height: the horns thereof shall be of the same.
A cubit its length and a cubit its width — square shall it be; and two cubits its height. From it shall its horns be (made).
You shall overlay it with pure gold, on its top, its walls all around, and its horn-like elevations, and make a gold crown-like rim all around it.
And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, its top, and its sides round about, and its horns; and thou shalt make for it a rim of gold round about.
And you shall cover it with pure gold, its roof and its walls roundabout and its horns; and you shall make for it a rim of gold roundabout [symbolizing "the crown of kehunah"].
Make two gold rings for it under its crown-like rim, on two of its corners. Make them on its two opposite sides. They will house the poles with which it is carried.
And two golden rings shalt thou make for it under its rim, by its two corners upon the two sides of it shalt thou make it; and they shall be for places for the poles with which to bear it.
And two golden rings shall you make for it. Beneath its rim at its two corners shall you make (them), on its two sides. And it [the ring-work] shall be for housings for the staves to carry it thereby.
Make the poles out of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.
And thou shalt make the poles of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold.
And you shall make the staves of acacia wood, and you shall cover them with gold.
Place it in front of the paroches that is by the Ark of the Testimony, in front of the covering that is on the Testimony where I will meet with you there.
And thou shalt put it before the veil that is by the ark of the Testimony, before the covering that is over the Testimony, where I will meet with thee.
And you shall place it before the parocheth which is by the ark of testimony, before the lid on the testimony [i.e., aligned directly opposite the ark, on the outside of the parocheth], where I shall be appointed for you.
Aharon shall burn upon it incense of spices. Every morning when he cleans the lamps, he shall burn it.
And Aharon shall burn upon it sweet incense every morning: when he dresses the lamps, he shall burn incense on it.
And Aaron shall smoke incense upon it every morning. When he cleans the lamps [the cups of the menorah (He would clean them of their ashes every morning)], he shall smoke it.
And when Aharon lights the lamps in the afternoon, he shall burn it. It is a continual incense -offering before Adonoy for your generations.
And when Aharon lights the lamps at evening, he shall burn incense upon it, a perpetual incense before the Lord throughout your generations.
And when Aaron kindles the lamps in the afternoon, he shall smoke it, [every day, half a portion in the morning, half in the afternoon], a continual incense before the L-rd for your generations.
Do not bring upon it strange [unauthorized] incense; neither burnt-offerings nor meal-offerings. You shall not pour a libation-offering upon it.
You shall offer no strange incense on it, nor burnt sacrifice, nor meal offering; neither shall you pour drink offering upon it.
You shall not bring up upon it strange [i.e., donated] incense, nor burnt-offering [any offering of animal or fowl], nor meal-offering [any offering of bread]; nor may you pour a libation upon it.
וְכִפֶּ֤ר אַהֲרֹן֙ עַל־קַרְנֹתָ֔יו אַחַ֖ת בַּשָּׁנָ֑ה מִדַּ֞ם חַטַּ֣את הַכִּפֻּרִ֗ים אַחַ֤ת בַּשָּׁנָה֙ יְכַפֵּ֤ר עָלָיו֙ לְדֹרֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם קֹֽדֶשׁ־קׇדָשִׁ֥ים ה֖וּא לַיהֹוָֽה׃{פ}
Aharon shall make atonement on its horn-like elevations once each year. With the blood of the sin-offering of atonement, he shall make atonement on it once each year for your generations. It is Holy of Holies to Adonoy.
And Aharon shall sprinkle upon the horns of it once in a year the blood of the sin offering of atonements: once in the year shall he make atonement upon it throughout your generations: it is most holy to the Lord.
And Aaron will make atonement [by application of the blood] upon its horns once a year [on Yom Kippur] with the blood of the sin-offering of the atonements [the bullock and the goat of Yom Kippur, which atone for impurity of the sanctuary and its sacred objects]. Once a year shall he make atonement upon it for your generations; it is holy of holies to the L-rd [It is consecrated for these things alone and for no other service.]
Adonoy spoke to Moshe, saying,
And the Lord spoke to Moshe, saying,
And the L-rd spoke to Moses, saying:
“When you take the count of the B’nei Yisrael to determine their numbers, each man shall give an atonement pledge for his soul to Adonoy, when you count them. Thus there will be no plague among them when you count them.
When thou dost take the sum of the children of Yisra᾽el after their number, then shall they give every man a ransom for his soul to the Lord, when thou dost number them; that there be no plague among them, when thou dost number them.
When you [wish to] take [a count of] the heads of the children of Israel according to their numbers, [do not count them by heads, but] let each man give [a half-shekel] as an atonement for his soul to the L-rd in counting them, so that there be no plague among them in counting them. [And count the shekalim, for the evil eye prevails over what is counted and makes it vulnerable to pestilence (See II Samuel 24:1-10)].
Everyone passing by to be counted must give this—half a shekel based on the shekel of the Holy [Sanctuary,] where a shekel is twenty geirah. Half of such a shekel must be given as a terumah-offering to Adonoy.
This they shall give, every one that passes among them that are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (a shekel is twenty gera:) a half shekel shall be the offering of the Lord.
This is what they shall give [(The L-rd showed Moses a coin of fire whose weight was half a shekel and said to him: "Let them give a coin like this")], everyone who passes among the counted, half a shekel by the [standard] shekel [weight] for consecration, twenty gerah the shekel. [Let them give] half this shekel as an offering to the L-rd.
Everyone passing by to be counted, from [age] twenty years and older, must give a terumah-offering to Adonoy.
Every one that passes among them that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give the offering of the Lord.
Everyone who passes among the counted, from the age of twenty years and above [(the army age)] shall give the offering of the L-rd.
The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when giving this terumah-offering to Adonoy to atone for your souls.
The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give the offering of the Lord, to make atonement for your souls.
The rich shall not give more and the poor shall not give less than the half-shekel, to give the offering of the L-rd to atone for your souls [i.e., so that you not be plague-smitten because of the count.]
וְלָקַחְתָּ֞ אֶת־כֶּ֣סֶף הַכִּפֻּרִ֗ים מֵאֵת֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְנָתַתָּ֣ אֹת֔וֹ עַל־עֲבֹדַ֖ת אֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֑ד וְהָיָה֩ לִבְנֵ֨י יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל לְזִכָּרוֹן֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֔ה לְכַפֵּ֖ר עַל־נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶֽם׃{פ}
Take this atonement money from the B’nei Yisrael and donate it for the work of the Tent of Meeting. It will be a remembrance for the B’nei Yisrael before Adonoy to atone for your souls.”
And thou shalt take the atonement money of the children of Yisra᾽el, and shalt appoint it for the service of the Tent of Meeting; that it may be a memorial to the children of Yisra᾽el before the Lord, to make atonement for your souls.
And you shall take the silver of the atonements from the children of Israel and give it for the work of the tent of meeting [(whence it is seen that Moses was commanded to count them at the beginning of the erection of the mishkan. It was from this counting that the sockets for the mishkan were made.)] And it shall be for the children of Israel a remembrance before the L-rd to atone for your souls.
Adonoy spoke to Moshe, saying:
And the Lord spoke to Moshe, saying,
And the L-rd spoke to Moses, saying:
“Make a copper wash basin and its copper base for washing; and place it between the Tent of Meeting and the Altar, and put water in it.
Thou shalt also make a laver of brass, and its pedestal also of brass, for washing: and thou shalt put it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and thou shalt put water in it.
And you shall make a kiyyor [an urn with spigots] of copper, and its pedestal of copper, for washing. And you shall place it between the tent of meeting and the altar [(not directly between them but drawn off towards the south)], and you shall put water there.
Aharon and his sons will wash from it their hands and their feet.
For Aharon and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet thereat:
And Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet from it [(at one and the same time, placing the right hand on the right foot and the left hand on the left foot.)]
Before entering the Tent of Meeting they must wash with water and they will not die, or whenever they approach the Altar for Divine service, or to burn a fire-offering to Adonoy.
when they go into the Tent of Meeting, they shall wash with water, that they die not; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn offering made by fire to the Lord:
When they come to the tent of meeting [to smoke incense morning and evening, or to sprinkle of the blood of the bullock of the high-priest and the "idolatry goats"], they shall wash with water and they will not die, [(the implication being that if they do not wash they will die], or when they draw near to the [outer] altar to serve, to smoke a fire-offering to the L-rd.
וְרָחֲצ֛וּ יְדֵיהֶ֥ם וְרַגְלֵיהֶ֖ם וְלֹ֣א יָמֻ֑תוּ וְהָיְתָ֨ה לָהֶ֧ם חׇק־עוֹלָ֛ם ל֥וֹ וּלְזַרְע֖וֹ לְדֹרֹתָֽם׃{פ}
They must wash their hands and their feet and they will not die. This is a perpetual statute for them, for him [Aharon] and his descendants for all their generations.”
so they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they die not: and it shall be a statute for ever to them, to him and to his seed throughout their generations.
And they shall wash their hands and feet and not die, [the implication being that if they do not wash (this, in reference to service on the outer altar) they will die]. And it shall be for them an eternal statute, for him and his seed for their generations.
Adonoy spoke to Moshe saying.
Moreover the Lord spoke to Moshe, saying,
And the L-rd spoke to Moses, saying:
“You shall take the finest spices, five hundred [shekels] of pure myrrh, half portions of fragrant cinnamon, [consisting of] two hundred and fifty [shekels] each, and two hundred and fifty [shekels] of calamus spices.
Take thou also to thee the best spices, of pure myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet cinnamon half so much, two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty shekels,
And you, take for yourself choice spices: pure myrrh, five hundred (shekel-weights)]; aromatic cinnamon — half of it, two hundred and fifty [(It was weighed twice to amount to five hundred and a little more (a small amount being added each time to tip the scale above 250)]; and aromatic cane, two hundred and fifty [(its total weight)].
[Also take] five hundred [shekels] of cassia based on the shekel value of the Holy [Sanctuary], and a hin of olive oil.
and of cassia five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of olive oil a hin:
And kiddah, five hundred in the shekel-weight of the sanctuary, and a hin of olive oil.
Make it into sacred anointing oil, a blend made by a [perfume] blender. It shall be a sacred anointing oil.
and thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compounded after the art of the perfumer: it shall be a holy anointing oil.
And you shall make of it oil of sacred anointment, a mixed blend, the work of the spice-blender. Oil of sacred anointment shall it be.
Anoint with it the Tent of Meeting, and the Ark of the Testimony,
And thou shalt anoint the Tent of Meeting with it, and the ark of the Testimony,
And you shall anoint with it [(in the shape of the Greek letter chi)] the tent of meeting and the ark of testimony.
And the Table and all its vessels, and the Menorah and its vessels, and the Incense Altar,
and the table and all its vessels, and the candlestick and its vessels, and the altar of incense,
And the table and all of its implements, the menorah and all of its implements, and the incense altar.

And the Burnt-offering Altar and all its vessels, and the wash basin and its base.
and the altar of burnt offering with all its vessels, and the laver and its pedestal.
And the burnt-offering altar and all of its implements, and the kiyyor and its pedestal.
Sanctify them and they will become holy of holies. Anything that touches them will become holy.
And thou shalt sanctify them, that they may be most holy: whatever touches them shall be holy.
And [by this anointment] you shall consecrate them and they shall be holy of holies [in that] everything [fit for (use in) a ministering vessel] that touches them [i.e., that enters into them] shall become consecrated.
You shall also anoint Aharon and his sons, and sanctify them to serve Me as kohanim.”
And thou shalt anoint Aharon and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may minister to me in the priest’s office.
And Aaron and his sons shall you anoint, and you shall consecrate them to minister unto Me.
Speak to the B’nei Yisrael, saying: “This shall be sacred anointing oil to Me for all your generations.
And thou shalt speak to the children of Yisra᾽el, saying, This shall be a holy anointing oil to me throughout your generations.
And to the children of Israel shall you speak, saying: Oil of sacred anointment shall this (zeh) be to Me [(The gematria of zeh is twelve; there were twelve lugin of anointing oil)], for your generations [All of it remains for future generations.]
It must not be poured on the flesh of any man, and its formula must not be duplicated. It is sacred. It must be sacred to you.
Upon man’s flesh shall it not be poured, neither shall you make any other like it, after the composition of it: it is holy, and holy shall it be for you.
On the flesh of man it shall not be smeared, and you shall not compound another like it. It is holy. Holy shall it be to you.
אִ֚ישׁ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִרְקַ֣ח כָּמֹ֔הוּ וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר יִתֵּ֛ן מִמֶּ֖נּוּ עַל־זָ֑ר וְנִכְרַ֖ת מֵעַמָּֽיו׃{ס}
If a person compounds a similar formula, or if he places from it upon an unauthorized person, he shall be cut off [spiritually] from his people.
Whoever compounds any like it, or whoever puts any of it upon a stranger, shall even be cut off from his people.
One who compounds its like or who puts of it [(of that made by Moses)] upon a stranger [(one not requiring anointment for priesthood or royalty)] shall be cut off from his people.
Adonoy said to Moshe, Take for yourself spices, stacte, onycha and galbanum, spices and pure frankincense. They shall be of equal weight.
And the Lord said to Moshe, Take to thee sweet spices, storax, and onycha, and galbanum; sweet spices with pure frankincense: of each shall there be a like weight:
And the L-rd said to Moses: Take for yourself [two] spices [and] stacte, onycha, galbanum [(a foul-smelling spice, included in the incense to teach us not to belittle inclusion of sinners in our fasts and prayers)], [and an additional five] spices, and pure frankincense. They [the stacte, onycha, galbanum, and frankincense] shall be equal [in weight] to one another.
Make it into incense, a blend blended by a blender, thoroughly blended, pure and holy.
and thou shalt make it a perfume, a confection after the art of the perfumer, mingled with salt, pure and holy:
And you shall make it into incense, a compound, the work of a spice-blender, thoroughly mixed, [and it shall be] pure [and] holy.
Pulverize some of it very finely and place it before the [Ark of] Testimony in the Tent of Meeting, where I will meet with you. It shall be holy of holies to you.
and thou shalt beat some of it very small, and put of it before the Testimony in the Tent of Meeting, where I will meet with thee: it shall be to you most holy.
And you shall grind some of it fine, and you shall place some of it [daily, on the inner altar] before the [ark of] testimony in the tent of meeting where I shall be appointed for you [to speak to you] there. Holy of holies shall it be to you.
The incense you are making, its formula must not be duplicated for you[r use]. It shall be sacred to you for Adonoy.
And as for the perfume which thou shalt make, you shall not make it for yourselves according to its prescribed composition: it shall be holy for the Lord.
And the incense that you make, in its composition [(the number of its spices)] you shall not make for yourselves. Holy shall it be to you for the L-rd. [You shall make it only for His name alone.]
אִ֛ישׁ אֲשֶׁר־יַעֲשֶׂ֥ה כָמ֖וֹהָ לְהָרִ֣יחַ בָּ֑הּ וְנִכְרַ֖ת מֵעַמָּֽיו׃{ס}
A person who duplicates this formula to enjoy its fragrance, shall be cut off [spiritually] from his people.”
Whoever shall make like to that, to partake of its scent, shall even be cut off from his people.
One who makes its like to smell it shall be cut off from his people. [But one may make it of what he owns, in its composition, for Temple use.]
